Edison's Mission
It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.
Welcome to Edison! I am Jackie Borchardt the Athletic Director for Edison as well as a Special Ed teacher for 7th and 8th graders. Please email me with any questions you have concerning athletics (borchaja@champaignschools.org). Edison has a very strong athletic department with wonderful coaches. I have attached a flier with the names/emails of our current coaches. We will be interviewing shortly for the Head Wrestling Coach and the JV Wrestling coach.
6th grade parents: We offer a competitive 6th grade only basketball team in partnership with the Champaign Park District. We hold tryouts which are open to 6th grade girls and boys. The selected team will consist of 12 - 15 players. In the past the games have been played on Monday and Wednesday nights. This position is voluntary. If you are interested please send me an email and I can give you more info about the schedule and time frame.
For any student to tryout for any of our athletic teams including cheer I must have the following 4 pieces of information on file by the deadline - do not turn in to the main office (scanning/emailing to me is perfect) or dropping the paperwork off in my room (122) works as well:
1. Completed Champaign Unit 4 form (attached)
2. Current physical
3. Completed waiver form (attached)
4. Copy of your insurance or medical card
If you have turned a physical in to the main office please let me know so I can check the date. I will still need the additional 3 pieces of required paperwork by the deadline.
Anyone wishing to tryout for any of our athletic teams MUST have all 4 pieces of the required paperwork turned in to me (not the main office) by the date found on the attached flier.
I will send info about cheer tryouts later this week.
Girls Basketball tryouts are Monday, Aug. 31 and Tues., Sept. 1 - please email me if you want to make sure your daughter has all her paperwork turned in.
Flier for GBB tryouts is attached - girls must attend both days of tryouts to be considered for the team

Monday, Aug. 24: Varsity Baseball vs St. Joe, 4 pm at Zahnd (Varsity players to be dismissed at 2:30 pm- list of those players will be sent to you by Coach Rodeffer or Coach Bruer)
Tuesday, Aug. 25: Double Header Baseball vs Mahomet, 4:15 pm at Zahnd All players to be dismissed from class at 2:30 pm
Wednesday, Aug. 26: JV Baseball at St. Matt's, 4:15 pm (players DO NOT leave class early)
Sat., Aug. 29:
Edison Cross Country Invitational, 9am at Robeson
Double Header Baseball vs South View, 10 am at Zahnd
Mon., Aug. 31:
Girls Basketball (GBB) tryouts
6th and 7th graders - 3 - 430 pm in north gym
8th graders 6 - 7:30 pm in north gym

GBB (Girls Basketball) Parent - Player - Coaches meeting for the selected team in the Edison Cafeteria beginning at 5:30 pm.
Thurs., Sept. 3: Baseball DH at Zahnd vs Jefferson, 4:15 pm PIC DAY for Baseball team (players are to bring their order envelope and payment with the to the field so they can turn it in to the photographer) – PICS will begin to be taken at 3pm
Friday, Sept. 4: XC (Cross Country) at Chrisman, 4pm (eligible runners are to be dismissed from class at 2:00 pm)
Sat., Sept. 5: Varsity Baseball vs Rantoul at Zahnd, 10 am
