It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.

From Coach Johnson: After several years coaching the 8th grade boys basketball team, I have decided that this will be my last season coaching. I would like to thank all of the custodians, teachers, administrators, parents and players that I have been fortunate enough to have created positive working relationships with during my tenure at Edison. I have created a lot of wonderful friendships and hope that those continue in the future.

Much appreciation to the Edison FAMILY for entrusting me with their young men. I am hopeful that I played a small role in helping them be good basketball players, but an even larger role in helping them become better young people. Thank You!

Future Facilities Dialogue Session: Champaign Unit 4 School District will host two Future Facilities Community Dialogue sessions on February 12 at the I-Hotel and Conference Center from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. The Community Dialogue invites all community members, students, teachers, parents, and business owners to offer their input on possible options for updating or replacing some of the District's aging school buildings. Topics of discussion will include: options for a new or renovated Central High School; options for renovation/construction at Centennial High School, the three middle schools, and South Side and Dr. Howard Elementary Schools; and alternative grade configurations. Central Spiritwear: Central HS PTA is selling off the remainder of their spirit wear. They have hoodies, t-shirts, and sweat pants. They do not have all sizes and colors but still have a lot available. They can e-mail me at snell1985@aol.com and I can tell them what we have.

Edison Jazz Bands: Come check out Edison's Jazz Bands as they present an Evening of Java and Jazz on Friday, February 1, beginning at 6:30 pm at the Laborer's Union Hall in Urbana. Maybe your child has a friend who plays in one of the bands, or maybe your child is interested in being a part of the Jazz Band Program next year. The ticket price of $25 includes a full dinner buffet, dessert, and a beverage. A cash bar is available as well. To order tickets talk to a Jazz Band parent or email EdisonJavaandJazz@gmail.com.

NJHS: Applications for the Edison chapter of the National Junior Honor Society are now available on the Edison web-site and in the main office. Applications are due to Mr. Cain by March 1, 2013. Current National Junior Honor Society members do not need to complete the applications for this year, but should contact Mr. Cain about their 2012 community service hours. If there are any questions please contact Mr. Cain at cainza@champaignschools.org or 351-3771.

Community Forums: Champaign Schools will hold informational forums to discuss the Schools of Controlled Choice registration process. The forums will also include a Showcase of Schools. This will provide an opportunity for parents and guardians to meet and talk with individual school staff members. Attached is a schedule of events.

Congratulations to our wrestling team as they were victorious over Rochester today in their last home meet.

Our 8BBB team defeated Mahomet (46 - 18) advancing to the second round of regional play. We face Jefferson at 6:15 pm on Monday, Jan. 28 at Monticello Middle School.

Congratulations to our 7BBB team on an exciting season. The boys faced Mahomet this past Sat. in their first regional game. Unfortunately we were unable to defeat Mahomet. Our 8BBB team begins regional play this Sat., Jan. 26 at Monticello Middle School against Mahomet. Their game is at 11:30. Yes, I have the correct regional info. Our 7BBB and 8BBB team first regional game info is exactly the same.

If our 8BBB team wins on Sat. they will play on Monday, Jan. 28 at 6:15 against Jefferson or Franklin. If they win on Monday they will play for the regional championship game on Thurs., Jan. 31 at 5 pm good luck to our 8BBB team

HS Registration: High School registration for our 8th graders will be on February 5th during the morning classes (7:55 - 12:03). Centennial and Central Counselors will be here to conduct the registration. An informative presentation will occur during the Social Studies classes on January 23rd for Mr. Guzman's classes and on January 28th for Mr. Becker's classes. Students will be given information on the High School classes that will be offered for them.

[Edison-PTSA] EDISON PTSA ANNOUNCEMENTS–JANUARY 18TH

Honor Roll Party: Friday January 18^th will be Edison's Honor Roll Party. We are asking for parents to drop off snacks to the front office or send them with your student. Suggested snacks are chips, cookies, crackers, etc., This party is for students who made honor roll for second quarter.

ATTENTION CAST MEMBERS: Cast members for A Little Princess: We will have full cast rehearsal (all leads and company) today through Friday, from 3:00-4:30 in Mrs. Mennig's room. Please bring $10.00 to receive your script (you will receive this money back at the end of the show if there are no markings in it). Any questions, please email menniger@champaignschools.org

MLK Writing Contest: An Edison 7th grader has received correspondence from the University of Illinois stating he has been recognized as a winner of the 11th Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Writing Contest. Out of over 200 submissions the student's piece of visual art entitled My Flag Means Freedom representing his idea of What Freedom Means to Me was selected as a winner.

Community Forums: Champaign Schools will hold informational forums to discuss the Schools of Controlled Choice registration process. The forums will also include a Showcase of Schools. This will provide an opportunity for parents and guardians to meet and talk with individual school staff members. Attached is a schedule of events.

Our 7th grade boys basketball team begins regional play on Sat., Jan. 19 at Monticello Middle School at 11:30 against Mahomet.

If they win this game they will play on Tues., Jan. 22 at Monticello Middle School at 6:15 pm against Franklin, Jefferson or Mt. Zion.

If they win on Tues. they will play on Wed., Jan. 23 at Monticello Middle School at 5:00 pm for the regional championship.

Minority Round Table: Edison's second Minority Roundtable Discussion will be on Wednesday, January 16^th from 6:30-8pm at the Champaign Public Library.

Supper with the Superintendent: Thursday, January 17^th at the I-Hotel and Conference Center will be the next Supper with the Superintendent. Please see attached flyer (English and Spanish) for more info.

Foreign Language Club: Foreign Language Club is kicking off the new year with a new cultural experience. Come join us to see how French and Spanish countries celebrate Epiphany. Learn about how to cut a king cake, and perhaps you will get to be king or queen for the day? January, Thursday the 17th from 2:45-3:45. Parent volunteers are welcome, we could use extra hands in making some king cakes, or in providing tools or drinks.
