Edison's Mission
It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.
Cookie Donations Needed: we need cookies to serve at the 100th Anniversary Open House on Saturday October 11, as well as a few people to host the refreshments table. PTSA Volunteer Opportunity: we're looking for a Hospitality Committee to arrange refreshments for various school events (100th Anniversary Open House, Veterans Day at School, content area nights, etc). If you're looking for a way to be involved at school and would like to know more about this opportunity, contact Gretchen Pein, gretchenpein@gmail.com.
Edison Science Olympiad Team: The first meeting of this year's Science Olympiad Team will happen at 2:45-3:15 on Wednesday Oct. 8th in room 348 at Edison Middle School. Students will get applications and hear about the team expectations. All interested students should attend this meeting to look at the events and competitions for the 2014-15 school year. Tech Club: If you are interested in computers or technology there will be a Tech Club meeting on Thursday, October 9th in Mr. Ross' room 132. The meeting will take place right after school and will last for about an hour. We will be discussing the activities that we will plan for this next school year, come with ideas of what you would like to do! There will be food and snacks provided. If you have any questions ask Mr. Ross, Holden Thornhill, or Alexi Didenko.
Edison Principal Search; there will be a family and community forum at 6 pm on Thursday October 9 in the Edison library. Your feedback will be used to generate interview questions in the search for a permanent principal at Edison. See attached flyer.
8th Grade Band Concert: The 8th grade band fall concert will also be Thursday, October 9, 7 pm in the Edison auditorium. This will be a short concert, featuring only the 8th grade band.
Building Council – What do we do? We don't discuss district issues, personnel or curricular matters, or discipline problems, but we do brainstorm ways to improve and enrich our school environment, and make things run more smoothly for Edison students and staff. We would like to recruit more parents to building council meetings. Consider attending a meeting (held in Mrs. Borchardt's room):

Physical and Dental forms: Remember to turn in your student's physical form and dental form to the school office. Physicals are due no later than October 15th or the student will not be able to attend school. Edison's 100th Anniversary Celebration Open House will be Saturday October 11th from 2-4PM. Please make sure to let anyone you know who went to or taught at Champaign High School, Edison Junior High or Edison Middle School know about this event. All classrooms will be open to see and remember fond memories in this majestic building. The PTSA will provide refreshments and there will be faculty and students to show you around. The Central Alumni Association will also have a table set up. There will be handicapped parking on the west side off of Prairie and students will let you in the side door.
Also featured at Edison's 100th Anniversary Celebration Open House will be performances from Jazz Band I, Choir, Orchestra, and 8th Grade Concert Band.
Bottenfield Elementary School dedication: The Bottenfield Dedication Ceremony will be Thursday, October 16, 6:30-8 pm. Stop by and check out the renovations; flyer is attached.
Edison PTSA Meeting Minutes: the minutes from our first meeting are attached. Mark your calendars for the next meeting on Monday October 20, 6 pm in the Edison library.
Social Probation: Please talk to your students about social probation, which is exclusion from participation in and/or attendance at an extracurricular school-sanctioned activity like ball games, concerts and dances. A student will be placed on social probation if/when:
•He/she has not served the assigned detentions minutes
•He/she is failing one or more classes
•Administration places him/her on social probation.
County Market Max Dollars for Education: if you're a County Market shopper and wish to designate Edison as your Max card school, sign up at www.myCountyMarket.com or at the customer service desk at any store. Our school code is 14088.
The Edison Choir meets in the Rm. 110 from 2:50 - 4:00 pm on Tuesdays and until 4:30 on Thursdays. Everyone is welcome; come out to enjoy singing together and bring a friend!
The Edison Choir during school: Do you love to sing but can't stay afterschool for choir? Would you like Edison to offer choir during the school day? If so, you need to write to our district administrators asking for it to be offered during the day!! See Mrs. Peachey for a letter writing packet. Letters are due by Wednesday, Oct. 8th.
Student Council meets in Mrs. Altenbaumer's room, 234 from 2:45-3:30. We meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month. All students are welcome to join. If you missed the first meeting, talk to Mrs. Altenbaumer or Mr. Freeman, our two Co-Sponsors. You can join anytime during the year. Come make a difference in your school.
