Edison's Mission

It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.

Tues., March 15

   7th grade Volleyball State - The 7th grade Volleyball team defeated Flossmoor Parker 25/18 and 25/23 advancing to the semifinals against Mt. Zion.  Unfortunately they lost to Mt. Zion (Edison won 25/22 then lost 25/16 and 26/24).  The team will face Homer Glen Homer for third place on Tues., March 15 at 5:30 pm at Wenona Fieldcrest in Wenona, IL.

 

Wed., March 30

    Wrestling banquet for wrestlers on the regional roster.  The banquet will begin at 5:30 pm in the Edison cafeteria.

 

Thurs., March 31

     Scholastic Bowl at Edison versus Holy Cross, 3 pm

 

Mon.,April 4

    Volleyball banquet in the Edison cafeteria beginning at 5:30 pm

 

Tues., April 5

    Track meet at St. Joe, 4 pm 

         eligible track members to be dismissed from class at 2:30 pm

 

     Scholastic Bowl at Next Generation, 4 pm

 

Thurs., April 7

    Track meet at Bloomington, 4:15 pm 

      eligible track members to be dismissed from class at 2:30 pm

 

    Scholastic Bowl at Franklin, 3:30 pm

 

Tues., April 12

    Track meet at Monticello, 4:30 pm (NO EARLY OUT)

 

Tues., April 19

     Track meet at Rantoul, 4:15 pm

        eligible track members to be dismissed from class at 2:30 pm

 

Thurs., April  21

     Track meet at North Ridge, 4:15 pm

        eligible track members to be dismissed from class at 2:15 pm

 

     Scholastic Bowl versus St.Joe, 4 pm

 

    Open House for incoming 6th graders, 6:30 unti 8:30 pm

 

Sat., April 23

     Track meet at Urbana, 10 am

 

Tues. April 26

       Home Track Meet at Centennial Track, 4 pm (we need 20 volunteers)

           eligible track members to be dismissed from class at 2:30 pm

 

Wed., April 27

     Scholastic Bowl regionals (location and time to be determined)

 

Thurs., Apil 28

      Track meet at Bloomington, 4:30 pm

       eligible track members to be dismissed from class at 2:30 pm

 

Boys basketball camp is tentatively set for Monday, May 9 through Thursday, May 12. The incoming 7th and 8th grade boys will have camp from 3 until 5 pm while incoming 6th graders will have camp from 5:15 until 6:30 pm. Registration fee will be $30.  More info will be available shortly.

Track:  we are hosting our first ever track meet on Tues., Apri 26.  We will need 20 volunteers in order to make this meet run smoothly.  If you would like to volunteer to help out please let me know - Jackie (377 - 8584 or borchaja@champaignschools.org)

GOLF:  any current 6th or 7th grader interested in participating in the IESA golf tournament in Sept., 2016 please contact Ms. Borchardt by Feb 29, 2016.

PTSA Meeting: the next PTSA meeting is tonight (Monday March 14) 6 pm in the Edison library.  An agenda is attached.  There were no minutes from the February meeting as we met at the PTA closet (near the band room) and spent the hour cleaning and organizing.  Special thanks to Tracy Sholem, Michelle Gonzales, Sujata and Sia Dey Koontz, Ms. Schoonover, and the PTSA executive committee for helping with that long-needed project.

Yearbook order forms  have been sent home.  The order forms and payment are due by March 20^th and can be turned in to Ms. DelMedico in the main office.

Edison Book Drive:  WE NEED BOOKS! PLEASE HELP US BUILD OUR CLASSROOM LIBRARIES WITH HIGH INTEREST TEXTS!!! 5,000 BOOKS is our GOAL. Two ways to donate:

1)  Students can bring book donations to their team's AVID teacher:

          Adventurers - Mrs. Wolz

          Voyagers - Mr. Freeman

          Galaxies - Ms. Whitfield

          Constellations - Mr. Hutchison

          Explorers - Ms. McDonnell

          Navigators- Mr. Holden

2)  Bring them to parent teacher conferences! Bring a couple or a box-full to your conference and your teacher will make sure it gets to where it needs to go.

What kind of books?  4 - 9th grade reading levels, chapter and graphic novels, fiction, poetry, and non-fiction books are all welcome! Questions? Email Mrs. Wolz at wolzje@champaignschools.org

Unit 4 Facility Planning: the public is invited to attend Tier II Committee meetings of the Special Committee of Facilities.  The charge of the Tier Two Committee is to review recommendations from Tier One, and based on this information provide recommendations to the Board of Education in the following areas: location of facilities, collaborations/partnerships with other public entities in the Champaign Unit #4 District, and finance/referendum schedule.  You can find a meeting schedule and more information here http://facilityplanning.champaignschools.org/

Save the World with Engineering: middle school girls and their parents are invited to an engineering workshop on Saturday April 16, noon to 5 pm at Loomis Lab.  Details are on the attached flyer or at http://societyofwomenengineers.illinois.edu/upcoming-events

Drop-off reminder: Remember that cell phone use in a school zone is against the law.  Please do not park your car on Prairie Street during drop-off time and check your mail.  When you do this you make drop-off unsafe for our children because everyone else must drive around you.
