EDISON PTSA ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

April 9

 

·         Dance Tonight: The PTSA will host the last school dance open to 6th, 7th and 8th graders TONIGHT. The dance will be held from 6-8 p.m. The cost is $2 and students must have a signed permission slip to get in. If you would like to chaperone, contact Jenny Redden by e-mail, jenlyn.redden@gmail.com. Volunteers should arrive at 5:45 p.m.

 

·         Volunteers Needed for 5th Grade Open House: The PTSA will be giving tours to the parents of 5th graders at the 5th grade open house next Tuesday, April 13.  PTSA needs about 10 volunteers to help guide the tours.  You can contact either Jennifer Clarke, jenniferandjohnc@sbcglobal.net, or Mary Schoen Petersen, schoenpetersen@comcast.net, to get more information and help out.

 

·         Spring Chess Fest: All students in grades K-8 are invited to participate in a ChessFest from 12p-5p on Saturday, April 17 at Jefferson Middle School. Participation is free but students MUST register in advance. Complete the attached form (Entry Form) and turn it into the main office at Edison by Wednesday, April 14. You can find more details in the attached flyer (Flyer).  

 

·         Support the Poms Squad: The EMS Poms Squad is holdin a bake sale during lunch periods in order to rauise money. Parents are needed to bake a batch or two of great desserts (individually wrapped) that can be sold for $.75 or $1.00.  Sale items can be brought to Ms. Kallembach in room 314 or in the main office.  Also, if there are parents or community members who would like to support the Pom Squad with a cash donation, it can be mailed or brought to the main office of Edison Middle School or to Ms. Kallembach's room #314, 306 West Green St., Champaign, IL.

 

·         Buy Books, Support Edison: Make your $$$'s count by shopping at Barnes and Noble during Books by the Bushel which begins TODAY and runs through Sunday, April 11. A portion of your purchase will be donated to support Edison Middle School. Present the attached voucher (Standard Bookfair 6 Voucher BBTB) and tell the cashier you are supporting Edison Middle School when you make your purchases and a portion of the net sale will be donated to Edison. THANK YOU!

 

April 7

 

·         Reception for Volunteers: Have you volunteered to chaperone a dance, a field trip or helped out in a classroom?  Are you one of the many who provided treats for our teachers?  If you take the time to volunteer at Edison, we would like to invite you to attend our annual Edison Volunteer Reception on April 28 from 10-11 a.m. in our cafeteria (see attached, Volunteer Reception).  If you are planning to attend, please let the school know as soon as possible. ·         AVID Breakfast: Edison AVID students and their families are invited to join the Edison AVID Team Teachers, Counselor, and Administrators for breakfast on Friday morning, April 16. They’ll be enjoying a meal together and celebrating the students’ successes this year. The breakfast will be held from 7:00 a.m.-7:50 a.m. in the Edison Middle School Library.

 

·         Teachers Receive Grants: Congratulations to Mr. Foli and Mr. Pinkerton, winners of a Champaign-Urbana Schools Foundation Master Grant. These Edison teachers are one of six winners. More details are in the attached document (Official CUSF Press Release).

 

·         Contest Winner: Congratulations to Edison 7th grader Katie Sullivan for winning 1st place in the News Gazette’s Design An Ad contest. Her work is attached (Katie Sullivan).

 

April 5

 

·         Edison Running Club: The Edison Running Club will continue training this week. Practices will be held after school until 3:45 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. They are training for the 5K portion of the Illinois Marathon which will be held on Saturday, May 1st. If you have questions, please contact Mr. Jurkowski, jurkowco@champaignschools.org.

 

·         Evening Band: Evening Band starts this week for 7th and 8th graders ONLY.  This is a volunteer practice to help prepare for Super State. They meet this Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. in the Edison Band Room.  Students should enter through the doors between the cafeteria and custodians office at about 5:50 p.m. and be prepared to be picked up promptly at 7:00 p.m.  Other rehearsals will be held on Tuesday, April 13th, Tuesday, April 20th, Monday, April 26th and Tuesday,  May 4th.

 

·         8th grade parents: Attached are calendars for April and May listing various events for 8th graders as the end of their 8th grade year quickly approaches. All 8th graders were given a copy of the same calendars along with a copy of ONE permission slip for three events that require a field trip permit.  Parents are asked to sign the permits again even if they have done so for the trips individually
