Don't Forget About Pajama Project: As many of us enjoy family time this weekend that could include some holiday shopping, please don't forget about the pajama drive.  Edison is collecting NEW pajamas to donate to local children for the holidays.  Many stores will be having weekend sales on pajamas.   Students can bring donations to their social studies teachers.  Please see attached flyer or email Ms. Rotramel (rotramel@champaignschools.org) if you have any questions.

 

 

 

 

November 25

 

Pajama Project: Help Edison help the community as part of the Pajama Project!  In partnership with Robeson Elementary and Leal Elementary, Edison is having a pajama drive from now until December 6th.  All pajamas will be paired with a new book donated by Scholastic and given to local children and teens in need for the holidays.  By including Edison, we hope to collect larger/teen sized pajamas.  However, any size pajamas are being accepted.  Students can bring donations of NEW pajamas to their social studies teachers.  The Edison team that collects the most pajamas will be rewarded with a Pajama Pants Day.  Please email Ms. Rotramel (rotramel@champaignschools.org)  if you have any questions.

 

Thanksgiving Break: Thanksgiving Break (no school) is Wednesday November 27–November 29.

 

November 19

 

Mini-Grants: Edison PTSA Mini-Grants are now available to teachers and staff!  Mini –Grants are intended to support special projects that cannot be funded with allocated classroom budgets, and can be especially helpful when serving a large number of students.  Ten grants of up to $150 each will be awarded.  Applications will be accepted until December 13, 2014 and approved requestors will be notified by December 20.   Contact Gretchen Pein at pein@illinois.edu if you have questions.

There are two more dates of events to work in November and one event for December that was just added for the State Farm Center.

***The December event is NCAA Volleyball Tournament and this information could change depending on regionals and who goes on!!!***

Please sign-up for any event you are interested in working.  Stand managers that have gone through training can sign-up for the stand manager slots.  Anyone else that is at least 18 years of age or has graduated from high school can work on behalf of your Edison Band student. 

I will be sending this out to the PTSA if there are those that would like to sign-up to help raise money for any other Edison organization or the 8th grade field trip.

If you sign-up to work an event please email me at hlf33@hotmail.com let me know your students first and last name or if you are working on behalf of another organization.  Once it is close to the event I will send out information about your event.  This will include parking pass information, dress code and any other details.

 

 

Society of Women Engineers: The University of Illinois Society of Women Engineers Outreach is offering your students the opportunity to explore engineering as a possible career. The SWE BELIEVE Newsletter provides the students with an insight into the professional engineering world and the life as an engineering student. We are hoping to introduce engineering as a career possibility to students that may never have considered it before. Below is a link to our monthly newsletter on the SWE website. Wrestling tryouts:

 

Tryouts for wrestling will be Monday, Dec. 2 and Tuesday, Dec. 3

 

. Tryouts will be in the south gym from 3:00 until 5:00 pm.  Anyone trying out must attend both days of tryouts, be on time and stay from 3 until 5 pm. Come ready to participate (tshirt, shorts or sweatpants, shoes and a water bottle).

 

 

Volleyball tryouts:

    Tues., Dec. 3 - tryouts for 6th grade only in the north gym from 6:00 until 7:30 pm

 

   Wed., Dec. 4

                      8th grade tryouts (8th graders only) in the north gym from 6:00 until 7:30 pm

                      7th grade tryouts (selected 6th graders from Tues.,Dec. 3 plus all 7th graders) in the north gym from

                                7:30 until 9:00 pm

 

    Thurs., Dec. 5

                         8th grade tryouts (8th graders only) in the north gym from 6:00 until 7:30 pm

                         7th grade tryouts (selected 6th graders from Tues.,Dec. 3 plus all 7th graders) in the north gym from

                                    7:30 until 9:00 pm

 

 

 All 4 pieces of the required paperwork must be turned by Tues., Nov. 25 for wrestling or volleyball tryouts.

 

The 4 pieces include:

 

1. Current physical

 

2. Completed Champaign Unit 4 form

 

3. Copy of your insurance or medical card

 

4. Completed waiver form

 

 

 

Many students do not have the waiver form or insurance turned in so please have your son/daughter check the list outside the cafeteria to see if they have everything turned in. The waiver form can be found on the athletic bulletin board outside Ms. Borchardt's room (room 122). Please turn the missing pieces of paperwork in to Ms. Borchardt in room 122 NOT the office by tomorrow if your son/daughter is tyring out for wrestling or volleyball.

 

Convocation on Tues., Nov. 26

      The state boys XC team is asked to sit in the first row of the middle section in the auditorium. The XC team is asked to wear their XC hoodie or tshirt

 

       The Girls Basketball teams are asked to wear their PINK OUT tshirts and to sit in the second and third rows of the middle section in the auditorium.

Book Fair Was a Big Success: Thank you all so much for your support of the Fall Book Fair! Because of your support, Edison's book fair is one of the most successful fairs in the area. I use all of the profits from the book fair to purchase books for the library so that all of our students have current, desirable books available to read.

  

Some of you mentioned at open house that you may have gently used, middle school appropriate books you could donate to the library. We always especially need any graphic or manga books or any Wimpy Kid, Big Nate, Harry Potter, or Rick Riordan books, etc. Please email me or drop the books off at the school. smithde@champaignschools.org

I would like to invited each of your families to Edison's 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Family Feast and Movie Night!

 

"What is this?" you ask.  

 

I will tell you what it is.  In order to show appreciation for our students, families, teachers, and staff, Edison is having a Thanksgiving Dinner on November 21 from 6-8:00pm.  The dinner will begin at 6:00 and at approximately 7:15pm, families are invited to go to the auditorium for a viewing of "Charlie Brown Thanksgiving."  Take a break from cooking dinner for your families and enjoy one on us.  This event is for ALL families!!!  ALL are welcome!  All you need to do is complete the attached invitation with your student's name and the number of people attending and we do the rest.  We hope to see everyone on the 21st!  Have a great week!

Central High School Spiritwear: Central PTSA has Spiritwear for sale.  If you have a student headed to Central in the next year or two, these will make great Holiday gifts!  We have maroon and gray t-shirts ($12), gray hooded sweatshirts ($25), and maroon sweatpants ($20) all with the 2013 logo's.  If you would like to purchase spiritwear please email Janet Roadcap at jsroadcap@yahoo.com

Dear Edison Families,

 

I would like to invited each of your families to Edison's 3rd Annual Thanksgiving Family Feast and Movie Night!

 

"What is this?" you ask.  

 

I will tell you what it is.  In order to show appreciation for our students, families, teachers, and staff, Edison is having a Thanksgiving Dinner on November 21 from 6-8:00pm.  The dinner will begin at 6:00 and at approximately 7:15pm, families are invited to go to the auditorium for a viewing of "Charlie Brown Thanksgiving."  Take a break from cooking dinner for your families and enjoy one on us.  This event is for ALL families!!!  ALL are welcome!  All you need to do is complete the attached invitation with your student's name and the number of people attending and we do the rest.  We hope to see everyone on the 21st!  Have a great week!
