Edison's Mission

PTSA Update: PTSA approved our budget for the 2013-2014 school year, new by-laws, and elected a new treasurer (Jill Daly).

Opportunities to Raise Money for Edison PTSA:  There are openings for October 12th to work at the Memorial Stadium for the Marching Band Competition.  7 adults needed to work 5:30-10:00 pm.  It is expected to be a fast paced event.  For each shift worked $35.00 at Memorial Stadium will go towards Edison Band, Avid, or Edison PTSA. If interested please contact Heather Zike at hlf33@hotmail.com Parking, dress code and any additional information will be provided to those who volunteer.  Thank you for your continued support to our students!!

Edison Orchestra Concert: Edison Orchestra will have a concert Thursday, October 10th at 7pm in the auditorium. All are welcome to attend and the event is free.

Social Probation for Students: (from Administration) Consequences such as social probation may be assigned by administration.  Social probation is defined in the Code of Conduct as "Exclusion from participation in and/or attendance at an extracurricular school-sanctioned activity" such as dances, public performances and athletic events (reference pg. 13 of Student/Parent Handbook).  Students will be placed on social probation if they receive two or more discipline referrals in one week; receive one or more failing cumulative grades in any class, checked weekly; received an out-of-school suspension or alternative to suspension assignment to ACTIONS.

Edison PBIS Seeking Donations: (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Support) Team is soliciting donations and could use your help!  We are working to tighten up our expectations and part of the programming encourages positive reinforcement.  We are setting up a "PBIS Store" in order to reward students for doing what is expected.  They will earn tickets or Comet Cash to "buy" items such as small pieces of candy, candy bars, snack bags, etc. when they are caught adhering to school-wide expectations like not running in the hallways or coming prepared to class.  We would like to expand our offerings to include such things as Edison Apparel, Yearbooks, Student Planners, low- to high-end electronics, bikes, scooters, skateboards through bought raffle tickets, gift cards, mechanical pencils and school supplies, etc.  The team would also like to acknowledge teachers for their recognitions and we'd like to reward them, too with a small token (donations accepted on their behalf as well).  If you are able and willing to make a charitable donation to our cause, we'd greatly appreciate it.  Any donations, be it actual items or monetary contribution, can be brought to Student Services (discipline office) or the main office.  If making a money contribution please send in an enclosed envelope with check (made out to Edison) or cash. Thanks in advance for your consideration and support.

Parent Teacher Conferences: PTSA will be feeding teachers and staff during parent/teacher conferences. We are asking parents to donate the following items: prepackaged salad mix, salad dressing, or a dessert item on Thursday, October 24th. If you are able to help out in any way with those items please e-mail Gretchen Pein at pein@illinois.edu.

October 7

BIG THANK YOU: Huge thank you to our volunteers who helped chaperone the dance. It takes a lot of people to make these events a success and Edison really appreciates parents willing to help. Big thanks to teachers and staff who helped with everything and ensured we had a safe and fun event for students.

VOLUNTEER COACH NEEDED: If you or someone you know is interested in being our volunteer coach for the 6th grade boys basketball team please contact Jackie Borchardt at 217 - 377 - 8584 ASAP.

Spirit Wear Ordering: It's time for the LAST Edison Spirit Wear order for this school year.  If you are interested, please send a check made payable to Edison PTSA, along with the completed order form clearly indicating the student's name, grade and contact phone number, in a sealed envelope marked "spirit wear" and have your student drop off in the main office. Orders will be accepted through October 31st and the orders will be placed in early November and distributed to your student at school well before the winter break.  If you wish the order to be a gift, please clearly indicate that on the order form and arrangements will be made to get the order to you rather than your student. Any questions, contact Jo Lynne Clauson via email at  joclauson@comcast.net  .

We Need More 2 Liters!! 8th grade science teachers still need about 50 - 100 more two-liter soda bottles. We could also use old cereal boxes, and plastic garbage bags (no holes). The rocket launching project has been put off due to lack of materials for each student... but we've not given up! Please send materials with your child to Mrs. Easton or Ms. Anders-Becker.
