Edison's Mission
It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that
ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.
8th Grade: Little Caesars fundraiser is due Wednesday, January 27 (that's today!). Please turn in your money and order form to Mrs. Easton or Mr. Bruer.
Congratulations to EMS Jazz bands for a great showing at Purdue Jazz Festival on Saturday! We were awarded the top middle school band award with 11 total middle school bands performing.
The results are in! The Edison's 2014-2015 literary arts magazine, Retro, was rated as an EXCELLENT by the NCTE this past year! All Edison students should consider submitting their work this year for a chance to be featured. Retro is a student-created magazine that is published at the end of the school year with the year's best student writing, art, and photography. The submission deadline for this year is March 9th. We accept writing, art, and photography.
To submit, share your work with edisonretro@gmail.com , making sure to put at the top:
1. The title of the piece
2. Your name*
3. Genre of the piece (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, art, or photography)
4. Your grade
5. Your homeroom teacher
*Note: All authors'/artists' names remain anonymous to Retro members during the selection process. If you wish to remain anonymous in the magazine itself, please put an * next to your name in your submission.
Lastly, we are still looking for students for our team! Come to room 226 on Thursdays from 2:50-3:50 to be a part of the team selecting and arranging the work for the magazine. Questions? Contact Mrs. Wolz or Ms. Garber.
Java & Jazz Fundraiser: the 2016 Edison Middle School Java & Jazz Fundraiser featuring all 3 Jazz Bands will be Friday, January 29, 6:00-9:00 pm at Faith United Methodist Church (1719 S Prospect Ave, Champaign; use west entrance). First band will be on stage at 6:30pm. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and desserts will be served.
Adults/HS: $10 ($12 at door)
K-8: $7 ($9 at door)
Family: $35 ($40 at door)

Brixx Fundraiser for Edison Bands: On Tuesday February 2nd, have dinner at Brixx and support Edison Middle School Bands. Please print the attached flyer and bring it with you. We will get $1 for each child's pizza and $3 for each 10 inch pizza.
The University of Illinois EdCampCU will be next Saturday January 30th at the College of Education from 8am-12pm. EdCampCU brings together in-service teachers, pre-service teachers, parents, professors, graduate students, administration, school board members, and community members around questions regarding issues and opportunities in education today. As an 'unconference,' the schedule is built by the participants - you can see the questions asked in past schedules here and here. Feel free to come by any time - there will be amazing conversations, coffee, and light pastries all morning. Registration is free and open to the public. LEAP (Linking Educators and Parents) is a grass roots group focusing on emotional and academic needs of students with dyslexia. There is no membership fee and all steering committee members are volunteers. Information on the LEAP fundraiser hockey game (Feb 12, Illini vs. ISU) is attached.
Dance: the next Edison Dance will be Friday February 12, 6-8 pm at school. Mark your calendars; details coming soon!

Minutes from the January PTSA meeting are attached. If you (or someone you know) are interested in PTSA activities and perhaps taking a leadership role in 2016-2017, contact gretchenpein@gmail.com. The next PTSA meeting will be Monday February 8, 6 pm in the Edison Library.
Thanks for the Box Tops collected so far this year! We will receive a check for $260 for the Box Tops we have collected and now it's time to start again. Mrs. Wells is collecting them for new PE equipment. You may send them into her or give them to any teacher to put in her mailbox. Thanks for the support!!
