Edison's Mission

It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.

 

 

2015 - 2016 baseball info:

If your son or daughter is currently in 6th or 7th grade please mark you calendars for the following dates:

 

Tryouts will be Monday, Aug. 3 and Tuesday, Aug. 4 - please plan your vacations around these dates as everyone who wants to tryout must attend both days of tryouts.  Practices will be Wed., Aug. 5 through Fri., Aug. 7 then Mon., Aug. 10 through Aug. 14.  The season will begin on Sat., Aug. 15.

6th grade basketball:

Edison is in need of a VOLUNTEER 6th grade basketball team coach. If you or anyone you know might be interested please contact Jackie Borchardt (borchaja@champaignschools.org) ASAP

Our 6th grade program is in partnership with the Champaign Park District.  

 

We have tryouts AFTER the 7th grade boys basketball team so any 6th graders who did not make the 7th grade team can tryout for the 6th grade team.

 

All the games are played at Douglas Center either on Monday or Wednesday.

 

We also schedule some additional games outside the park district schedule so we end up with 12-15 games.

 

 

Boys Basketball tryouts:

Tryouts for boys who have all their required paperwork will be:

 

Monday, Oct. 20 and Tues., Oct. 21

       8th graders from 4:30 until 6:00 pm in the north gym

       6th/7th graders from 6:00 until 7:30 pm in the north gym

Thursday, Oct. 16: GBB versus Jefferson, 4:15 pm

 

Saturday, Oct. 18: XC state

 

Monday, Oct. 20: 8BBB tryouts 4:30 until 6pm in north gym (enter through door #7)

            6th/7thBBB tryouts 6 until 7:30 pm in north gym (enter through door #7)

 

Tuesday, Oct. 21: 8BBB tryouts 4:30 until 6pm in north gym (enter through door #7)

            6th/7thBBB tryouts 6 untnil 7:30 pm in north gym (enter through door #7)

 

Wednesday, Oct. 22: GBB at South View, 4:15 pm (players to be dismissed from class at 2:15 pm)

            Parent-Player meeting for selected boys basketball team , 5:30 pm in cafeteria

 

Thursday, Oct. 23: No school

            Parent - Teacher Conferences from 4 until 8 pm 

 

Friday, Oct. 24: No school

            Parent - Teacher Conferences from 8 until 11 am

 

Monday, Oct. 27: GBB versus North Ridge, 4:15 pm

 

Tuesday, Oct. 28: GBB at Rantoul, 5pm

 

Thursday, Oct. 30: GBB at Mahomet, 4:30 pm

Edison's Mission

The Edison Tech Club will be meeting this Thursday (October 16, today!) after school to begin learning how to program. If you are interested in learning how to write code to make games, apps, websites, and computer software come join us! We will meet from 2:45-3:45 and provide treats and snacks. If you have any questions feel free at ask Mr. Ross or one of our other great members!

 

Teacher Appreciation: Please help us provide dinner for our teachers and staff by sending a side dish, salad, or dessert to school by 3:30 pm on October 24.  Teachers will have dinner during conferences that night, from 4-8 pm. College Gear Fridays: Students, wear your Avid or college gear on Friday.  Every Friday!

 

Mini-Grants: The Edison PTSA Academic Fund supports special projects that cannot be funded with allocated classroom budgets. Mini-grants of up to $100 each are available to any Edison Middle School faculty or staff member.  Attached is the application form, which is due by Friday November 14.  You can complete the application and send via email to kimcollins@yahoo.com or print the form and leave in the PTSA mailbox.  For questions, please contact Kim Collins at the email address above.

 

PTSA Meeting: the next Edison PTSA meeting will be Monday, October 20, 6 pm in the Edison library.  An agenda is attached.  We will vote on the revised budget (also attached) and discuss upcoming events and other ways we support our school.  Join us Monday to see how you can be involved in your child's educational experience.  (we also work hard to keep meetings at one hour or less!)

Reflections: Get Out Your Creativity And Submit your Expressions!! National PTA sponsors an annual themed arts competition, wherein students submit their artistic creations for review. PTA Reflections theme this year is "The World would be a better Place if. . ."  Categories are Dance Choreography, Photography, Literature, Visual Arts, Film Production, and Music Composition.  You can find rules for each category here http://www.illinoispta.org/reflections.html.

Print out a submission form http://www.illinoispta.org/pdf/Student%20Entry%20Form%209-16-14.pdf, attach it to your creative expression, and bring it to school.

Spirit Wear: if you ordered Spirit Wear on registration day or before the early September deadline and have not picked up your order, please stop by the school office to retrieve it (or send your student).  If you'd like to place an order for Spirit Wear, please print an attached order form (there are two forms: one for the 'bling' shirts and one for 'regular' apparel) and send to school with payment, addressed to "Edison PTSA."  Deadline for this order cycle is November 1.

Building Council –What do we do? We don't discuss district issues, personnel or curricular matters, or discipline problems, but we do brainstorm ways to improve and enrich our school environment, and make things run more smoothly for Edison students and staff.  We would like to recruit more parents to building council meetings.  Consider attending a meeting (held in Mrs. Borchardt's room):

November 13 - 7am – 7:45am 

December 11 - 3 – 4pm 

January 8 – 3 – 4pm 

February 12 – 7am – 7:45am 

March 12 – 3-4pm 

April 9 – 3 – 4pm 

May 7 – 3-4pm 

Bottenfield Elementary School dedication: The Bottenfield Dedication Ceremony will be Thursday, October 16, 6:30-8 pm.  Stop by and check out the renovations; flyer is attached.

Social Probation: Please talk to your students about social probation, which is exclusion from participation in and/or attendance at an extracurricular school-sanctioned activity like ball games, concerts and dances.  A student will be placed on social probation if/when:

•He/she has not served the assigned detentions minutes

•He/she is failing one or more classes

•Administration places him/her on social probation.​

County Market Max Dollars for Education: if you're a County Market shopper and wish to designate Edison as your Max card school, sign up at www.myCountyMarket.com or at the customer service desk at any store.  Our school code is 14088.

 

The Edison Choir meets in the Rm. 110 from 2:50 - 4:00 pm on Tuesdays and until 4:30 on Thursdays.  Everyone is welcome; come out to enjoy singing together and bring a friend! 

Student Council meets in Mrs. Altenbaumer's room, 234 from 2:45-3:30. We meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month.   All students are welcome to join.   If you missed the first meeting, talk to Mrs. Altenbaumer or Mr. Freeman, our two Co-Sponsors.  You can join anytime during the year.   Come make a difference in your school.

Friday Night Basketball will be held at Vineyard Church from 7p-9p. Vineyard is located at 1500 N Lincoln at the corner of Lincoln and Bradley in Urbana. Basketball is open to ages 13-17. Text or call 217-299-0013.
