March 17

 

  • Dress Code: There is a direct relationship between grooming and conduct.  Students are expected to dress and groom themselves within the guidelines of individual pride, decency, cleanliness and safety.  Students must refrain from wearing any clothing that will disrupt the educational process.  Students will not be permitted to wear clothing to class which has imprints, writings, etc. that is suggestive or endorses illegal substances or is in any way profane.  The following list contains examples of inappropriate dress:

o   Hats, headbands or do-rags

o   Pants worn below the waist 

o   Pants that expose underwear

o   Low cut tops or cropped tops.

o   Tops that do not cover the midsection. 

o   Short shorts/skirts.  

o   Translucent clothing

o   Pajama pants

o   Bedroom/House slippers

o   Bandannas

o   Any other attire that is deemed in any way disruptive or inappropriate

o   If you are wearing tights, the appropriate length shorts need to be worn over them

 

 All hats, caps, headbands and do-rags must be removed prior to entering the school building.  Students who repeatedly disregard this expectation will have these items confiscated.


  • Chess Fest: Do you like to play Chess?  Then join the fun on Saturday, April 2, 2011 at the Spring Chess Fest to be held at Jefferson.  Grades K-8 may participate, and it's FREE!  But you must return the Entry Form to the Main Office or email chessfest@gmail.com by Thursday, March 31.

 

March 15

 

  • Staff Dinner we need donations! We are still in need of donations for the staff dinner on Thursday afternoon.  If you are able to donate salad mix, desserts or drinks, please e-mail Lynnette Dodds at <mailto:lynnette24@sbcglobal.net>lynnette24@sbcglobal.net.  If you are leaving town on Thursday morning, your donation can be dropped off in the teachers' lounge on Wednesday afternoon.  We need your help to make the staff dinner a success.

 

  • 7th Grade Parents: Springfield permission slips and $20 are due Friday, April 1st. To get an extra copy of the permission slip and details about the trip go to www.mrseaston.com Permission slips will also be available at Parent-teacher conferences.

 

  • Parent Teacher Conferences: Parent teacher conferences will be this Thursday and Friday. If you have not received a scheduling slip please contact your child's homeroom teacher. Thursday will be a half day and Friday there will be no school. Spring Break is the following week March 21st-25th.

 

March 14


  • Lasagna Dinner for Edison Staff: The PTSA will be providing dinner for the staff during conferences on Thursday, March 17.  We are looking for donations of the following food items to round-out the meal: 12 bags of pre-washed salad mix 8 desserts drinks (soda, bottled water, lemonade or tea) Please contact Lynnette Dodds if you can help at lynnette24@sbcglobal.net Donated food/drinks can be dropped off in the teachers' lounge any time that day.  Dinner will be served from 3:30-5:30 to accommodate the staff's conference schedule.



  • PTSA Officer/Committee Nominations: April 11th the Edison PTSA will be holding nominations for officers and committee members. There are several opportunities for parents to get involved. This meeting will be held on Monday at 6pm in the auditorium before 5th grade open house. Please e mail Angie Patton at apatton2@gmail.com if you are interested in more info.


Book Fair: The Library is looking for PARENT VOLUNTEERS for the upcoming book fair March 11th-18th Volunteers are needed Thursday, March 17th 4-8 pm and Friday, March 18th 8-11am during Parent/Teacher conferences Contact us on the book fair website if you can help. March 9

 

  • Help Edison PTSA Raise Money!  Sign up for Fun Funds at GFS (Gordon Food Service), and then every time you shop, show them your card and earn 1% up to 10% for the Edison PTSA.  The store is located near Menards, and our Fun Funds number is 2452385.

 

  • Yearbook Orders: It's time to order 2010-2011 Year Books if you did not already order them at registration in the summer.  The Year Books are $22.00. Orders can be brought to the Discipline Office with the order form or mailed to Edison Middle School at  306 West Green Street, Champaign, IL 61820 until March 18, 2011.  Edison can not promise that there will be extra books so please place an order to be sure to get one.  Checks should be made payable to Edison Middle School. 


  • 8th graders we need a baby picture: Please bring in a baby picture(s) in an envelope with your name on it.  If you could put your name on the back of each picture that would be fantastic.  The pictures will be used for a display.  You WILL GET your picture(s) back on the day of promotion.  Give your picture(s) to Mr. Guzman or Ms. Borchardt.

 

Community Events:


  • Summer Enrichment: Looking for ways to keep your child engaged this summer?  Come to the Summer Enrichment Extravaganza, a community-wide youth programming resource fair, which will take place on Thursday, April 14, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Urbana Middle School Cafetorium.  Meet program staff from more than 30 campus and community organizations that offer summer programs, activities, and learning opportunities for students in pre-K through 12th grade. Please contact me at 333-4687, or via email at lfmoore@illinois.edu, if you have any questions.

April 11-29 All remaining 5^th grade students register for 6th grade

May 9-31 Elementary and Middle School registration for 1st -8th

Remember even if you have already registered this needs to be updated annually. Target has a similar reward program called Take Charge for Education. Simply apply for a Target charge (Red Card)/debit card, get approved, and Target donates 1% of your Red Card/Target Debit card purchases to your school.
