Edison's Mission
It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.

VOLUNTEER COACH NEEDED: If you or someone you know is interested in being our volunteer coach for the 6th grade boys basketball team please contact Jackkie Borchardt at 217 - 377 - 8584 ASAP.
Spirt Wear Ordering: It's time for the LAST Edison Spirit Wear order for this school year. If you are interested, please send a check made payable to Edison PTSA, along with the completed order form clearly indicating the student's name, grade and contact phone number, in a sealed envelope marked "spirit wear" and have your student drop off in the main office. Orders will be accepted through October 31st and the orders will be placed in early November and distributed to your student at school well before the winter break. If you wish the order to be a gift, please clearly indicate that on the order form and arrangements will be made to get the order to you rather than your student. We Need More 2 Liters!! 8th grade science teachers still need about 50 - 100 more two-liter soda bottles. We could also use old cereal boxes, and plastic garbage bags (no holes). The rocket launching project has been put off due to lack of materials for each student... but we've not given up! Please send materials with your child to Mrs. Easton or Ms. Anders-Becker.
Larkin's Place at the Y: Attached is more info about programs offered at Larkin's Place/YMCA for children and students of all ages and skill levels.
Homework Club: Homework Club is available every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and every 2nd and 4th Monday in Ms. Milani's classroom (142) from 2:45 – 4:00 p.m. Homework Club is open to all students who need help with homework. Students are not required to stay until 4:00 p.m., they can leave whenever their homework is finished.
Parent Teacher Conferences: PTSA will be feeding teachers and staff during parent/teacher conferences. We are asking parents to donate the following items: prepackaged salad mix, salad dressing, or a dessert item on Thursday, October 24th. If you are able to help out in any way with those items please e-mail Gretchen Pein at pein@illinois.edu.
Questions about the Dance: Friday October 4th from 6-8pm is our first school dance. We have received lots of questions about the dance from parents so here's some basic info:
Dances are not formal
You do not have to have a date to go
Concessions are sold at the dance (pizza, soda, candy, and TCBY) so have your student bring extra $$
Dress is casual
ONLY EDISON STUDENTS ARE ALLOWED AT THE DANCE–students from other schools will not be admitted.
DJ plays popular music from an approved playlist
Book Fair: Edison's book fair will be the week of October 21–25th.
Box Tops: Physical Education is collecting Box Tops please have your student bring them into Mrs.Wells.

School Dance: Edison's first dance of the year is Friday, October 4th from 6-8pm. Admission to the dance is $2. Concessions of pizza, soda, candy, and TCBY will be sold. No one will be admitted to the dance after 6:30pm. We will have a drawing of door prizes and a DJ. All of our volunteers are lined up so thank you to all of our AWESOME volunteers.
Images for Yearbook: Send photos of baseball or cross country via email (or CD) to Mrs. Easton for this year's yearbook. Photos could be before during or after an event. Mrs. Easton room 310 eastonka@champaignschools.org
By Laws: Attached is a copy of the proposed Edison bylaws for the 2013–2014 school year. Our bylaws must be updated every two years. We will vote on approving these at the next meeting on October 8th.

PTSA Budget: Attached is the PTSA proposed budget for the 2013–2014 school year. Please look over and we will be voting to approve at the next meeting on Tuesday October 8th.

Social Justice Committee: You are invited to be part of the Unit 4 Social Justice Committee. This committee is a vehicle by which we can work together to systemically improve our school district's ability to support student learning through the lens of social justice. Everyone is welcome to attend the meetings. 2013-14 committee meeting dates are August 29, September 24, October 29, December 12, January 23, February 25, April 24, and May 22. All meetings are held from 5:00-6:30pm at the Mellon Board Room.
