Parents of 8th Grade Students: please see two attachments: one, a letter regarding promotion on Monday May 23 at 9 am and two, a list of important dates in April and May.

Day in the Park: mark your calendars for Saturday May 7, 2-5 pm.  Edison bands will perform their final concert of the year at Hessel Park!  Bring lawn chairs and sunscreen; the Champaign Park District will have inflatables on site for younger kids, and the Band Patrons will sell light concessions.  See you there!

Jazz Band: Is your child interested in playing in one of the jazz ensembles for the 2016-2017 school year? If so, please join us for an informative meeting next Thursday, April 28th in the band room @ 7PM. 

3rd  Quarter  Honor  Roll Celebration will be Friday May 13 in the north gym.  Parents/Guardians if you would like to donate snacks to help with the celebration, please mark your students grade level and drop it off in Student Services the morning of the celebration. Thank you!

Illinois PTA SPOTLIGHT : Make plans to attend this arts workshop at Millikin University on Saturday, April 30, 12:30 pm – 4:30 pm. This event is wonderful and is open to all children in Illinois - whether they participated in Reflections or not. Edison will be hosting their first ever track meet on Tues., April 26 at Centennial.  We are in need of 4 more volunteers.  If you would like to volunteer please contact Jackie Borchardt (377 - 8584 or borchaja@champaignschools.org)

Jazz Band: Is your child interested in playing in one of the jazz ensembles for the 2016-2017 school year? If so, please join us for an informative meeting next Thursday, April 28th in the band room @ 7PM.

Public Forum on Dyslexia and Other Learning Differences: April 26, 6:30-8:00 pm at the Urbana Free Library Auditorium, sponsored by LEAP.     A panel composed of parent, Cari Vanderpool; classroom teacher, Jill Quisenberry; Ron Rothschild, family therapist and Elizabeth deGruy, special education director will help us take a look at how we, as parents, educators and advocates can make meaningful connections with our children and youth with dyslexia.  We will look at concepts and skills for helping all of us celebrate the beauties vs. the beasts of learning differently.  Join us for an interactive and helpful evening of lively discussion and useful information.

National Junior Honor Society Members: Are you interested in getting service hours while at the same time helping clean up the community? If so, Join Ms. Schoonover for the Boneyard Creek Community Day this Saturday, April 23 from 9-12.  Any interested members must sign up in the main office and get a waiver that must be completed by a parent/guardian and brought back to school by Friday, April 22. Details about the location will be given once you are signed up.

The meeting for Champaign will be next Thursday, April 21st, 4:30 - 6:30 pm at the Illinois Terminal, 45 East University, 4th Floor, Champaign, IL.  See attached flyer for more information and other meeting times/dates/locations.

Wednesday April 20: 8th grade panoramic picture in the north gym from 1:30 until 2:30 pm.  The 8th graders were given order forms last week.  They are to bring their order form and payment to school on Wed., April 20.

Central HS Drumline Change: Central High School Drumline clinic for this Wednesday has been canceled. The practice is being rescheduled for Sunday, April 24 - 5:00 - 7:00 p.m.

Book Fair: April 18, 19, and 20 (Monday through Wednesday) the book fair will be open. This time it is books only, no posters, pens, etc. Students who have a gift certificate may come and pick out a book, then the book will be held until the end of the day in order to run them all through the register for redemption.

Edison's Mission

It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.

     Track meet at Rantoul, 4:15 pm

        eligible track members to be dismissed from class at 2:30 pm

 

Thurs., April  21

     Track meet at North Ridge, 4:15 pm

        eligible track members to be dismissed from class at 2:15 pm

     

     Boys Volleyball Intramural 3:00 until 4:15 pm

     Scholastic Bowl versus St.Joe, 4 pm

     Open House for incoming 6th graders, 6:30 until 8:30 pm

 

Sat., April 23

     Track meet at Urbana, 10 am

 

Tues. April 26

       Home Track Meet at Centennial Track, 4 pm (we need 20 volunteers)

           eligible track members to be dismissed from class at 2:30 pm

 

Wed., April 27

     Scholastic Bowl regionals (location and time to be determined)

 

Thurs., Apil 28

      Track meet at Bloomington, 4:30 pm

               eligible track members to be dismissed from class at 2:30 pm

       Boys Volleyball Intramural 3:00 until 4:15 pm

 

Thurs., May 5

       Boys Volleyball Intramural 3:00 until 4:15 pm

 

Tues., May 17 

       Boys Volleyball Intramural 3:00 until 4:15 pm

 

Thurs., May 19

      Boys Volleyball Intramural 3:00 until 4:15 pm

 

Boys basketball camp is tentatively set for Monday, May 9 through Thursday, May 12. The incoming 7th and 8th grade boys will have camp from 3 until 5 pm while incoming 6th graders will have camp from 5:15 until 6:30 pm. Registration fee will be $30.  More info will be available shortly.

 

Track:  we are hosting our first ever track meet on Tues., April 26.  We will need 20 volunteers in order to make this meet run smoothly.  If you would like to volunteer to help out please let me know - Jackie (377 - 8584 or borchaja@champaignschools.org)

GOLF:  any current 6th or 7th grader interested in participating in the IESA golf tournament in Sept., 2016 please contact Ms. Borchardt by Feb 29, 2016.
