[Edison-PTSA] PTSA ANNOUNCEMENTS- February 5- Addition

·         Addition: NAAPID(National African American Parent Involvement Day) is coming up this Monday, February 8. Parents, grandparents and other caring adults are invited to visit Edison between 9 a.m. and 12 p.m. You are invited to sit in your child’s classes, meet administrators and eat lunch or bring in lunch for your child on this day. Light refreshments will be served outside the library.

 

EDISON PTSA ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

February 5

 

·         Candy: The PTSA would like for you to send in bags of wrapped candy on Monday, February 8. The candy will be collected near the main office. PTSA will create candy bags for teachers and staff to show our appreciation for their hard work. It will be distributed to staff on Friday February 12th.  If you can provide cellophane bags or if you have questions please contact Kristian at kristian.sargeant@sjcnc.org.

 

·         Smile!  Spring Casual pictures will be taken on Thursday, February 11. They will be taken during PE.  Order forms will be sent home on Monday, February 8.

 

·         Baby Pics for 8th graders:  All 8th graders are encouraged to bring in a baby picture or two for the 8th grade Baby Picture display.  Please have your name on the picture(s).  Explorers give your picture(s) to Mr. Guzman and Navigators give your picture(s) to Ms. Borchardt.  Pictures are due by Monday, March 29.  You will get the picture(s) back the day of promotion. If you have any questions ask Mr. Guzman (guzmanje@champaignschools.org) or Ms. Borchardt (borchaja@champaignschools.org).

 

·         Edison Yearbook: Parents, students and teachers who have taken pictures at Edison events throughout the year, we need your pictures for the school yearbook! Please share your pictures with Mrs. Easton via e-mail, disc or flash drive at eastonka@champaignschools.org or room 346. The deadline for sharing photos is February 16. All discs and flash drives will be returned.

 

·         Edison Band Families:  The band has collected nearly $200 worth of Box Tops this year!  Janet Roadcap will be sending them to General Mills in two weeks, so if you have saved them and want to help the band program at Edison, have your student place them in the Box Top box in the band room.  They will be collected next Wednesday after school.   If you are looking for a list of products (there are over 200!) you can follow this link to find the list http://www.boxtops4education.com/Image.aspx?id=2164.  

 

·         Volleyball: Congratulations to the 7th grade volleyball team on their victory over Jefferson on Wednesday night. The 8th grade team played hard, but lost their games.

 

February 3

 

·         National Junior Honor Society: Edison's chapter of National Junior Honor Society will be accepting applications for the 2010 National Junior Honor Society Induction Ceremony.  Application sheets have been mailed home to all individuals who have achieved a 3.0/4.0 GPA.  Applications are due February 22, 2010.  If anyone has questions, please feel free to contact Mr. Cain at cainza@champaignschools.org or Mr. Foli at folibr@champaignschools.org.

 

·         Candy Grams: Student Council will be selling Candy Grams next week during lunch, February 8-11, and they will be distributing them on February 12.  Candy Grams are 50 cents each and the money goes towards the 8th Grade Dance.  Students need to know the homeroom of the people they are sending Grams to so they can be delivered properly. 

 

·         Volleyball: The 7th grade and 8th grade volleyball teams lost their games to Normal Kingsley this week but played well. They play again today against Jefferson. 

 

February 1

 

·         Comets Connecting with Haiti: Edison students are collecting money for the Red Cross and the children of Haiti.   Their goal is to collect over $1760.  This number represents the number of miles it is from Champaign to Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti.  Students from the Leadership Academy will be collecting money during lunch periods and updates will be posted each day.  They will also be making a paper chain to represent the miles/money collected.  Each link is a mile/dollar.

 

·         Creative Writing: Creative Writing Club will meet on February 9th, 16th, and 23rd from 2:45-4:00 p.m. in room 246.

 

·         Volleyball: The Edison girls volleyball teams played Danville South View last week. The 7th grade team won, which makes their record 5 and 2. The 8th grade team also won. Go Comets!

 

·         Sports Schedule:

Wed., Feb. 3         VB vs Jefferson, 4:15 p.m.

Sat., Feb. 6            Wrestling at Mahomet,  9:00 a.m.
