Edison's Mission

It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.

 

​Congratulations to our Edison Baseball team - they are the regional champs!!  This is the first time in our young baseball program (9 years) that we have won regionals.  We face Hoopeston in the sectional game on Saturday, Sept. 27 at Mahomet High School field, 11 am.  Congratulations to Coach Beesley, Coach Rodeffer and all the players, parents and grandparents.

Wednesday, Sept. 24

     GBB teams travel to Danville North Ridge, 4:30 pm (no early out)

     Open gym for boys who have pre-registered with Ms. Borchardt (flier with time will be given to them when they register).  No one can attend unless they have pre-registered.  Social probation will be in effect so if a student had any F's as of grade checks last Tues. they will not be allowed to attend.

Friday, Sept. 26

     XC to Dunlap, 4pm (Eligible runners will be dismissed from class at 1:15 pm)

 

Saturday, Sept. 27

     Baseball Sectional game at Mahomet High School field

Thurs., Oct. 2 is the deadline to submit required paperwork for any young man wishing to try out for the IESA 7th grade and 8th grade teams as well as our 6th grade team which is in partnership with the Champaign Park District. 

Required paperwork includes:

1. Completed Unit 4 form

2. Current physical -6th graders who turned their physical in to the office must let Ms.Borchardt know so she can check the date.

3. Completed waiver form

4. Copy of your insurance or medical card

All the required paperwork needs to be turned in to Ms. Borchardt in room 122 NOT the office.

Packets of the required paperwork are on the athletic bulletin board outside room 122.

XC parents: If you ordered pictures from Illini Studio please tell your runner to stop by Ms. Borchardt's room to pick up their pictures AFTER school this week.

Edison Jackets: If you ordered an Edison jacket please tell your son/daughter to stop by Ms. Borchardt's room to pick up their jacket(s)  AFTER school this week.

Edison's Mission

Physical and Dental forms: Remember to turn in your student's physical form and dental form to the school office.  Physicals are due no later than October 15th or the student will not be able to attend school. A Message from Mr. Ranstead: It is with a heavy heart that after nearly 18 years with Unit 4 as a coach and an administrator, I am resigning from my position as Assistant Principal of Edison Middle School, effective September 29, 2014, to accept the Principal position at MacArthur High School in Decatur, Illinois.  After careful consideration, I agreed to residency and a three-year contract with Decatur Public Schools, which will take me back to the school district that gave me my first start in administration.  My last day is Friday, September 26th.

I want to thank each of you for welcoming me into your lives and for the opportunity to make an impact on the lives of our students here at Edison.  I can't express how much that meant to me.  I can only hope I have had some positive impact on the future of Edison.

It has been a pleasure to work alongside such a dedicated staff and with such a vibrant community of students and families.  The District is aware of my decision and will be working closely with the administrative team to fill the position and ensure Edison's continued success.

2-Liter Plastic Bottles: 8th grade science teachers need 100 2-liter plastic bottles for rocket launching this year. We also need empty cereal boxes. Please turn them in to Mrs. Anders-Becker or Mrs. Easton by October 3.

Picture Day: is October 2.  If your child hasn't already brought home an order form, it should be coming.

 

Spirit Wear: we plan to distribute Spirit Wear orders (that weren't picked up at Open House) during lunch at school on September 30.  Watch the email announcements for information on another chance to order, just in time for the holidays!

SigEp Leadership Academy is looking for 7^th and 8^th grade students to be a part of their leadership training program.  See attachment for details or contact Edison's volunteer coordinator, Christina Cooper, at cooperch@champaignschools.org.

Open House Feedback: What did you think of your Open House experience?  What was done right and needs to continue, and what could be changed? Please send your comments and suggestions to Interim Principal Oakes-Novak at oakesdo@champaignschools.org

Social Probation: Please talk to your students about social probation, which is exclusion from participation in and/or attendance at an extracurricular school-sanctioned activity like ball games, concerts and dances.  A student will be placed on social probation if/when:

•He/she has not served the assigned detentions minutes

•He/she is failing one or more classes

•Administration places him/her on social probation.​

The Edison Choir meets in the Rm. 110 from 2:50 - 4:00 pm on Tuesdays and until 4:30 on Thursdays.  Everyone is welcome; come out to enjoy singing together and bring a friend! 

Student Council meets in Mrs. Altenbaumer's room, 234 from 2:45-3:30. We meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month.   All students are welcome to join.   If you missed the first meeting, talk to Mrs. Altenbaumer or Mr. Freeman, our two Co-Sponsors.  You can join anytime during the year.   Come make a difference in your school.
