EDISON PTSA ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

May 12


.         Parent meeting for 2010 – 2011 Baseball, Cross Country and Girls Basketball: There will be an informational meeting for parents/students who will be attending Edison next fall and are interested in Cross Country and trying out for Baseball and Girls Basketball. The meeting will be Thurs., June 3 in the Edison cafeteria at 5:00 pm. Cross Country season begins Monday, August 2 (anyone interested in Cross Country MUST begin practicing this day).  Mandatory parent meeting will be Monday, Aug. 2 (time and place TBA). Baseball tryouts will be held Monday, Aug. 2 and Tuesday, Aug. 3 from 4 – 6 pm at Zahnd Park. Mandatory parent meeting will be at 5:30 pm on Wed., Aug. 4 (location TBA)

 

Girl's Basketball tryouts will be:

 

Monday, Aug. 30 for any 6th grader interested in trying out for the 7th grade team and for 8th grade team

Tuesday, Aug. 31 for 7th grade team and 8th grade team

Wed., Sept. 1 for 7th grade team

Thurs., Sept. 2 will be mandatory parent meeting at 5:30 pm in the Edison Cafeteria

 

Deadlines for required paperwork (current physical, Champaign Unit 4 Insurance and Participation form and written proof of insurance):

Baseball and Cross Country:  Friday, July 16

Girl's Basketball:  Friday, Aug. 13

 

 

.         Intramural Golf: Monday, May 17–– Thursday, May 20, 2010. Come one day, two days, three days or all four days                Edison students in 6th, 7th and 8th grade can participate no matter the skill level. Learn the basics of golf (club use, putting, chipping) and have some fun! Interested golfers will need to be at the University of Illinois Golf Course (by U of I airport) at the club house by 3:15 pm.  Instruction will last from 3:15 until 4:15 pm. Students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the golf course. Students can bring their own clubs or clubs will be available for use.

 

·         20th Century Shakers and Movers Wax Museum: The 8th Grade Navigators team will be having 20th Century Shakers and Movers Wax Museum on Friday, May 21st during 3rd and 4th periods.  Visitors are welcome.

 

·         Volunteers Needed for 8th Grade Dance: The 8th Grade school dance at Edison Middle School is Wednesday, May 26 from 7-9 p.m.  Volunteers are needed to help with concessions and monitor the gym. If you would like to volunteer, please email Mr. Jesse Guzman know at <mailto:guzmanje@champaignschools.org>guzmanje@champaignschools.org. Volunteers should arrive at 6:40 p.m. and check in at the concession table in the cafeteria. Basic Information about the 8th Grade Dance: *Only 8th Grade Edison students will be allowed, *Admission is Free, *Students must have a signed permission slip and their student ID, *No one is permitted in after 7:30 p.m.,*Snacks and Cake are free, and *All students must remain in the building until the dance is dismissed at 9 p.m.

 

COMMUNITY ACTIVITY

 

·         Central Mini-Maroons Volleyball Camp:  All middle school girls are encouraged to attend the Mini-Maroons Volleyball Camp at Central High School on June 23-25. The camp is for younger girls who want to learn volleyball skills. More information will be available soon.

 

May 10

 

·         GeoJam, May 13 from 6:30pm-8pm:   A fun and challenging night of mathematics activities, where everything is hands-on and you can win cool prizes!  All Edison Middle School students are invited to attend.  Event (held at Central High School) is run by mathematics students at the University of Illinois who are minoring in education.  Bring a friend!  Questions to Rochelle Gutierrez (<mailto:rg1@illinois.edu>rg1@illinois.edu)

 

·         Summer Reading Book Festival: 100 students are receiving a $7.00 coupon from our principal, Mrs. David, to use toward the purchase of a book at our upcoming May book fair.  The book fair is a Buy One Get One Free fair, so the students will also be able to choose an additional book with the coupon. This is an excellent opportunity to promote summer reading by getting great books into the hands of our students. The spring BOGO (Buy One, Get One FREE) Scholastic Book Fair will be held in Edison's School Library on May 14 - 21. ·         Thank you: Thank you to all who volunteered and donated to help make International Day a big success! We would especially like to thank all the vendors: Action Inflatables Mega Events, Meijer, Sams, and Q96 who donated all the entertainment and food items for the event!
