April 29

 

  • Teacher Appreciation Week: Next week is National Teacher Appreciation Week and the Edison PTSA has a few events planned to show our thanks for our wonderful staff.  We will be hosting a breakfast for the teachers on Tuesday morning and a pizza lunch for them on Friday.  If you can donate any of the following items, please contact Lynnette Dodds at lynnette24@sbcglobal.net to let her know.  Thanks!

 

Tuesday

one dozen bagels (4 people)

16 oz. containters of spreadable cream cheese (4 people)

large jugs of orange juice (2 people)

 

Friday

large bags of salad mix (4 people)

bottled salad dressing (2 people)

  • 7th Grade Fieldtrip this Wednesday, May 4!!!

Don't forget:

Bring a brown-bag lunch

Drop your child off at 7am

Pick your child up around 5:20pm

 

  • Important Meeting: Beth Shepperd would like to address the PTSA, parents and community at a meeting on May 10th.  The meeting will begin at 6pm in the Edison Library. With the resignation of Carmela David, the district is starting the process to find a replacement.  Ms. Beth Shepperd would like to meet with parents to establish a principal profile that will be used in the interview process. Please see attached press release.

 

April 28


  • Edison Middle School Band: presents "Day in the Park" Head out with family and friends to Hessel Park on Saturday, May 7 at 3 pm for the annual end of the year concert with performances by the 6th, 7th and 8th grade concert bands, plus Jazz 1, Jazz 2 and Jazz 3.  Concessions available.  Action inflatables for the kiddos, too!  $1 per ride or $5 for unlimited games.  See the attached flyer for more details.  In the event of inclement weather, the concert will be moved to the Edison Middle School Auditorium.  For more information, please contact Dena Bagger at denabagger@aol.com or 493-9561.

 

  • Jazz Fest: at Central High School!

Ready for good music, dancing, food, and fun? Then come and be a part
of Central High School's 42nd annual Jazz Fest on Friday, April 29 and
Saturday, April 30 starting at 5:30 p.m. in the Central High School
Gymnasium.

Hear top bands from high schools and middle schools across
Champaign-Urbana plus the University of Illinois Jazz Band. While you're
there visit the Jazz CafĂ© for dinner, dessert, and snacks!

Tickets are $5 per person and $20 per family, available at the door.
Don't miss the fun and opportunity to support local student musicians!

 

 Intramurals:

 

Bowling intramural is this Thurs. at Old Orchard.  If you are interested please see Ms. Borchardt for a permission slip.

The cost will be $3.75 per game.  We will bowl only one game this time.  Another bowling date is May 12. 

 

If you are interested in flag football intramural please stop by Ms. Borchardt's room to pick up a permit.

Golf:  if you are interested in participating in the IESA golf tournament on Sept. 10 please pick up one of the fliers on the athletic bulletin board outside room 122.  You must have a current physical, Champaign Unit 4 form and written proof of insurance turned in to Ms. Borchardt by Aug. 22, 

 

If you are interested in attending the Brian Cook basketball camp you can pick up a flier outside room 122 on the athletic bulletin board.

 

The athletic banquet is Monday, May 2 at Stone Creek Church in Urbana.  If you have not picked up a flier about the banquet please go see Ms. Borchardt in room 122.

 

 

If you are interested in trying out for or participating in athletics for next year please stop by the athletic bulletin board outside room 122 to obtain a Champaign Unit 4 form, an IESA physical form (which you take to the doctor) and a list of all the athletic deadlines for next year.

  • CU Schools Foundation Celebrates: 5 of Our Public High School Alumni at 2011 Gala The Champaign Urbana Schools Foundation will celebrate the accomplishments of five of our public high school alumni on Saturday, May 7 at the 2011 CUSF Gala at the IHotel.  Three different awards will be presented:  Distinguished Alumni Award, Local Hero Award and the Local Business Community Impact Award. The 2011 CUSF Gala will be on Saturday, May 7 beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the IHotel and Conference Center, Champaign and is open to the public with advance ticket purchase. For tickets or additional information visit: www.CUSchoolsFoundation.org and click on the "2011 Gala Event" link or call 217-398-2873. Proceeds from ticket sales support the mission of CUSF.

 

  • Principal David Leaving: Principal David will not be returning to Edison Middle School next year. Attached is her goodbye letter. Thank you for your service Mrs. David, you will be missed!


  • 8th Grade Graduation: Will be on Friday May 27th at 9am. Mark it on your calendars. We will provide more info as it becomes available.


  • Athletics:

1.     Any current 6th or 7th grade student who is interested in participating in XC, Baseball, Basketball, Wrestling and/or volleyball will need to pick up the following three forms:

a.     Champaign Unit 4 form

b.    IESA physical form (you take this form to the doctor)

c.     2011 – 2012 flier which lists all the deadlines for physicals

The forms can be found on the athletic bulletin board outside room 122 All forms are attached

2.     If you are interested in participating in the IESA Golf state tournament please see Ms. Borchardt for the information. You must be registered by Aug. 22 and have a current physical on file to participate.  If you love to golf this is an excellent opportunity to play one of the best courses in Chicago.

4.     Summer opportunities:

a.     Edison will be hosting a basketball camp for current 6th and 7th grade boys.  Stay tuned for dates, times and cost.

b.     On the athletic bulletin board outside room 122 fliers for Girls fast pitch, Centennial volleyball camp, and Summer Sports through the park district which include fast pitch, basketball, fencing, Lacrosse. British soccer and bowling Can be found on the athletic bulletin board outside room 122

  • Dyslexia Presentation: I have attached a flyer for a presentation by Susan Barton, dyslexia expert.  The presentation will be on May 19 at Faith Methodist Church, and seats may be reserved at the website listed on the flyer.
