Edison's Mission

It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.

Upcoming events:

For home basketball, volleyball and wrestling events all Edison students MUST have their school ID to be admitted to the event.  Admission is $1 for students and $2 for adults.  Students are expected to have a ride home 15 min. after the completion of the event.  Students are to leave school at 2:40 then return at 4 pm using door #6.  Students are to enter gym only after receiving an admission ticket.

 

Mon., Jan. 25

   7BBB regional game if they win on Saturday - 7:30 pm versus Charleston in Effingham

 

Tues., Jan. 26

    Wrestling to Bloomington for tri meet with Bloomington and Chiddix, 4:30 pm    Early Dismissal at 2:00 pm 

    Volleyball at St, Joe, 6 pm

 

Wed., Jan. 27

     Volleyball versus Franklin, 4:15 pm

 

     6th grade basketball at Douglass Center, 6:15 pm

 

    7BBB regional championship game if they win their game on Monday, 6 pm in Effingham

 

Thurs, Jan. 28

     Volleyball at South View, 4:15 pm (no early out)

 

Sat., Jan. 30

   Wrestling at Rochester, 10 am

   8BBB regional brackets will be announced on Fri., Jan. 22

 

Track required paperwork due Fri., Feb. 5 - required paperwork includes current physical, completed Champaign Unit 4 form, Completed waiver form and copy of insurance/medical card on file with Ms.Borchardt not the main office.

 

Check the current list outside the cafeteria to see if you are cleared for track.

 

Sign up for track will take place the week of Feb. 8 - 12

 

Volleyball team and Scholastic Bowl team:  your clothing orders are in so please stop by Ms. Borchardt's room to pick up your orders BEFORE or AFTER school.

Congratulations to EMS Jazz bands for a great showing at Purdue Jazz Festival on Saturday!  We were awarded the top middle school band award with 11 total middle school bands performing.

The Champaign Unit 4 School Board will meet this evening, 5:30 pm at the Mellon Bldg.  There are some exciting items on the agenda, which can be found here: http://u4boardcorner.blogspot.com/2016/01/preview-of-board-meeting-12516.html

The results are in!  The Edison's 2014-2015 literary arts magazine, Retro, was rated as an EXCELLENT by the NCTE this past year!  All Edison students should consider submitting their work this year for a chance to be featured.  Retro is a student-created magazine that is published at the end of the school year with the year's best student writing, art, and photography.  The submission deadline for this year is March 9th. We accept writing, art, and photography.  

To submit, share your work with edisonretro@gmail.com , making sure to put at the top:

1. The title of the piece

2. Your name* 

3. Genre of the piece (fiction, non-fiction, poetry, art, or photography)

4. Your grade

5. Your homeroom teacher

*Note: All authors'/artists' names remain anonymous to Retro members during the selection process. If you wish to remain anonymous in the magazine itself, please put an * next to your name in your submission.

Lastly, we are still looking for students for our team! Come to room 226 on Thursdays from 2:50-3:50 to be a part of the team selecting and arranging the work for the magazine.  Questions? Contact Mrs. Wolz or Ms. Garber.

Java & Jazz Fundraiser: the 2016 Edison Middle School Java & Jazz Fundraiser featuring all 3 Jazz Bands will be Friday, January 29, 6:00-9:00 pm at Faith United Methodist Church (1719 S Prospect Ave, Champaign; use west entrance). First band will be on stage at 6:30pm. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and desserts will be served.

Adults/HS: $10 ($12 at door)

K-8: $7 ($9 at door) 

Family:             $35 ($40 at door)

Dance: the next Edison Dance will be Friday February 12, 6-8 pm at school.  Mark your calendars; details coming soon!

Thanks for the Box Tops collected so far this year!  We will receive a check for $260 for the Box Tops we have collected and now it's time to start again.  Mrs. Wells is collecting them for new PE equipment. You may send them into her or give them to any teacher to put in her mailbox. Thanks for the support!!
