Edison's Mission
It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.
Rayvonte Rice jersey retirement: The students and staff of Edison Middle School will be honoring Illini Basketball player Rayvonte Rice today (April 22) at 2:00 p.m. at an all school assembly in the Edison Middle School Auditorium with the retirement of his Edison Basketball jersey. Cookies! Edison Middle School is hosting the 5th grade Open House on Thursday, April 23 from 6:30-8:00 pm. We will need about 50 dz cookies to accommodate the large number of guests. 8th Grade Promotion has been set for 9 am on May 29. Details and ticket information will be sent home soon.
PTSA officers and committees needed: We are looking to fill these PTSA positions: secretary, teacher appreciation, dance committee, and a VP who will take over as president in the 2016-2017 school year. 8th Grade Calendar of Events: a schedule of events specific to 8th graders is attached.
Centennial Bands Info: 8th grade students who plan to attend Centennial, attached please find information on Centennial High School marching band rehearsals as well as concert band and jazz band calendars.
Temporary absence: Mrs. Lane-Rose will be away for military service on May 5-19; Mrs. Whitfield will be serving as interim associate principal during that time.
PTA Reflections Update: Congratulations to Sia DeyKoontz who received honorable mention in the Photography category of this year's contest. Her photo was titled "Pothole Beauty." The theme of next year's PTA Reflections contest is "Let Your Imagination Fly."
Yearbook Pictures needed! We need candid photos from band, strings, boys basketball, girls basketball, and wrestling. Please send them or share them with Mrs. Easton via: CD, flash drive, email (eastonka@champaignschools.org), or Google drive (eastonka@u4sd.org). *Please include the activity and grade level of students participating.
Box Tops for Education: Mrs. Wells is still collecting Box Tops for the school. Please send yours to Mrs. Wells or give them to any teacher to put in her mailbox.
Edison PTSA recently awarded 15 mini-grants to teachers and staff for classroom needs, extracurricular club activities, and learning software! If you'd like to help PTSA develop additional fundraising events, contact Gretchen Pein at gretchenpein@gmail.com

Building Council –What do we do? We don't discuss district issues, personnel or curricular matters, or discipline problems, but we do brainstorm ways to improve and enrich our school environment, and make things run more smoothly for Edison students and staff. We would like to recruit more parents to building council meetings. Consider attending a meeting (held in Mrs. Borchardt's room): May 7 – 3 - 4pm
Friday Night Basketball will be held at Vineyard Church from 7p-8:30p during the second semester on the dates listed below. Vineyard is located at 1500 N Lincoln at the corner of Lincoln and Bradley in Urbana. Basketball is open to boys and girls ages 11-17. Text or call 217-299-0013 for more information. April 24
Social Probation: Please talk to your students about social probation, which is exclusion from participation in and/or attendance at an extracurricular school-sanctioned activity like ball games, concerts and dances. A student will be placed on social probation if/when:
•He/she has not served the assigned detentions minutes
•He/she is failing one or more classes
•Administration places him/her on social probation.
County Market Max Dollars for Education: if you're a County Market shopper and wish to designate Edison as your Max card school, sign up at www.myCountyMarket.com or at the customer service desk at any store. Our school code is 14088.
Student Council meets in Mrs. Altenbaumer's room, 234 from 2:45-3:30. We meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month. All students are welcome to join. If you missed the first meeting, talk to Mrs. Altenbaumer or Mr. Freeman, our two Co-Sponsors. You can join anytime during the year. Come make a difference in your school.
