[Edison-PTSA] EDISON PTSA ANNOUNCEMENTS–AUGUST 27

August 27

Dear Edison Middle School Parents/Guardians,

I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our Edison Middle School families! During my first year as an administrator, I was fortunate enough to meet many wonderful students and their families.  Please allow me to thank each of you for making the 2009-2010 school year such an incredible year.

To all of our new families, I look forward to the amazing opportunity of working with you and your children. To all of our returning families, I thank you for your continued support of the programs taking place at Edison Middle School. Your continued support allows for our teachers and staff to meet the needs of our students year after year. I am a firm believer that being visible and accessible is important in the role of a school administrator.  Should you have any questions or concerns, or would just like to introduce yourself, please feel free to contact me at (217) 351-3889 or email me at uppingju@champaignschools.org.  I look forward to another successful school year and hope that your family has a positive experience while attending Edison Middle School.

Sincerely,

Justin Uppinghouse

Assistant Principal

Edison Middle School

Welcome back!

"What would you like to be when you grow up?  Would you like to be a nurse, a professional athlete, a scientist or an astronaut?"   My reply was always, "No, I would like to be a teacher like my Mom and Dad!"  Becoming a teacher and then an administrator is one of my greatest achievements!  My journey in education began when I was an infant.  A classroom and a gymnasium became my second home.  An Assistant basketball coaching position at the University of Illinois brought my family to Champaign.  While in Champaign, I attended Champaign Central High School.  My memories as a student in Champaign Unit #4 are very special.  Champaign Unit #4 provided me with exceptional teachers, a warm and caring classroom environment, and great friends.

I have taught and continue to work with some of the finest educators in the country.  They are a group of individuals that are very knowledgeable in their fields, cooperative, competitive, innovative, and teach their students not only reading, writing and math, but real life lessons that will help them grow into positive members of society.  I love the students here at Edison Middle School!  I love teaching!  I love being the Associate Principal at such a fine school!  It is rewarding, exciting, challenging and I am enthusiastic about having the opportunity to work with your child.  I wish them much success and growth this year at Edison Middle School!  I hope their memories and history will be positive and just as rewarding as my experience has been!

Welcome Back!

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Friends:

As we begin the new school year, I would like to extend a warm welcome to all new and returning members of our Edison family.  I've truly enjoyed the past two years and I'm looking forward to another outstanding school year serving this community!  Your continued support has resulted in increased technology throughout the building, increased academic and after school programs, unforgettable field experiences for our students, and the development of a positive and supportive climate in our school.  Your support in our school reform efforts has also resulted in Edison's making Annual Yearly Progress (AYP) for the 2009-2010 school year!  Your participation is integral to our continued success and we thank you for being active participants in student learning.

I would also like to congratulate the members of our outstanding staff.  Many are celebrating obtaining National Board Certification, graduate degrees, having their educational grants funded by the CU Foundation, and the birth of beautiful babies.  My husband and I will be welcoming our own bundle of joy during the month of October.  Our students are happy to be back, making new friends, and opening new doors into their futures.  As always, we invite you to visit our campus, and to share your ideas for enhancing the middle school experience of all Edison Comets!

Yours Truly,

Carmela David

Principal
