Edison's Mission

6th grade parents:  We offer a competitive 6th grade only basketball team in partnership with the Champaign Park District.  We hold tryouts (AFTER tryouts for the 7th grade boys basketball team on Oct. 19 and 20) which are open to 6th grade girls and boys. The selected team will consist of 12 - 15 players.  In the past the games have been played on Monday and Wednesday nights.  This position is voluntary.  If you are interested please send me an email and I can give you more info about the schedule and time frame. As of today we do not have a coach.

 

Required paperwork for upcoming tryouts Wrestling and Volleyball:

Any student who is interested in trying out for any of our athletic teams must have the following 4 pieces of information on file by the deadline - do not turn in to the main office (scanning/emailing to me is perfect) or dropping the paperwork off in my room (122) works as well:

1.  Completed Champaign Unit 4 form (attached)

            2.  Current physical

            3.  Completed waiver form (attached)

            4.  Copy of your insurance or medical card

 

If you have turned a physical in to the main office please let me know so I can check the date.  I will still need the additional 3 pieces of required paperwork by the deadline.

 

Required paperwork for Wrestling and Volleyball due Friday, November 6, 2015 by 3 pm

 

Upcoming events:

For home basketball, volleyball and wrestling events all Edison students MUST have their school ID to be admitted to the event.  Admission is $1 for students and $2 for adults.  Students are expected to have a ride home 15 min. after the completion of the event.  Students are to leave school at 2:40 then return at 4 pm using door #6.  Students are to enter gym only after receiving an admission ticket.

 

Any current 6th or 7th graders interested in competing in the IESA State Golf Tournament in Sept. 2016 please contact Jackie at borchaja@champaignschools.org.

Teacher Appreciation Luncheon: Please visit Sign-Up genius http://www.signupgenius.com/go/70a0f49aaa922a02-dinner/3307362 to contribute a food item or supplies for the teacher meal during parent/teacher conferences on Thursday, October 29th. The main course will be provided. We need volunteers to sign up for salads, breads, desserts, drinks and paper products. Parent/Teacher Conferences will be next Thursday Oct 29 (early evening) and Friday Oct 30 (morning).  There will be no school on those days.  Your student should bring home conference scheduling information this week; if you haven't heard or seen anything by this Friday, do contact the school and they will direct you to the appropriate teacher.

PTA Reflections Contest: Please encourage your students to participate in this year's PTA Reflections Contest, a national themed arts competition.  Categories are: dance choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts.  Submissions are due before November 1, so this is the time to get started.  This year's theme is "Let Your Imagination Fly!" PTSA Mini-Grants are now available to Edison teachers and staff!  An application form is attached; this year, PTSA is able to award 15 grants of up to $100 each.  Applications are due by October 30 and can be sent electronically to Kim Collins at kimcollins@yahoo.com or printed and put in the PTSA mailbox at school. Parents and friends, if you'd like to see PTSA award even more grants, contact gretchenpein@gmail.com about forming/joining the fundraising committee.

The Society of Women Engineers at UIUC is hosting an event on Saturday November 7, 10 am to 2 pm. This is a great opportunity for your female students to learn more about science and engineering.
