February 27

 

Trade Up: Attached is the registration form for the Trade-Up 2014 hands-on learning event to be held at the Parkhill Applied Technology Center at Parkland College.  This event will take place on Tuesday, April 29 for interested middle school/junior high students (grades 6-8).  Trade-Up 2014 will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 2:00 p.m.  Lunch will be provided.  Due to the hands-on nature of the event, each school will be limited to 18 students. Please read the information sheet, fill out the attached form and return it to the EFE office by Friday, March 28 via e-mail (nelder@efe.k12.il.us) or fax (217-355-1396).  If you have any questions regarding this event, please contact me.

Let’s go to the Movie: Edison students who meet the ISAT movie criteria will be going to Savoy 16. The ISAT movie criteria is attached.The movie will be announced on March 5. If you have any questions please contact Jackie Borchardt (borchaja@champaignschools.org)

February 21

 

Survey: During the week of March 3 – March 7, Edison Middle Schools will have the opportunity to participate in the Illinois Youth Survey (IYS).  There is nothing that needs to be signed or returned if you want your child to participate.  However, if you do not want your child to participate in this survey, please fill out the form below and have your student return it to their social studies teacher. Even if you allow your child to participate, every student will also be given the choice to participate or not.  Please see that attached letter for more information.

 

National Junior Honor Society: Applications for the Edison chapter of the National Junior Honor Society are now available on the Edison web-site and in the main office.  Applications are due to Mr. Cain by February 28, 2014.  Current National Junior Honor Society members do not need to complete the applications for this year, but should contact Mr. Cain about their 2013 community service hours.  If there are any questions please contact Mr. Cain at cainza@champaignschools.org or 351-3771.

    VB at St. Joe, 6 pm (this is a make up date)

 

Tues., Feb. 25

     VB at Unity, 4:15 pm

     6th, 7th and 8th grade boys basketball banquet in the cafeteria beginning at 5:30 pm

 

Wed., Feb. 26

     VB versus North Ridge, 4:15 pm - we will be recognizing our 8th grade VB players

              at the completion of the 7th grade game since this is the last home game

      6BBB at Douglas Center, 6:15  pm (last game of the season)

 

Sat., March 1

     Wrestling regional at Mattoon Middle School, 9 am

 

Monday, March 3

     Track parent - athlete meeting in the cafeteria beginning at 5:30 pm

     7VB regional game versus Danville South View at Jefferson, 6:30 pm

 

Tuesdsay, March 4

     7VB regional game if they win on Monday  at Jefferson, 5:30 pm

 

Thursday, March 6

     7VB regional championship game if they win on Tues., at Jefferson, 5 pm

 

Saturday, March 8

    Wrestling sectional meet at Mahomet, 9 am

 

 

February 19

 

Track:  Parent - athlete meeting for students who have signed up for track is scheduled for Monday, March 3rd in the cafeteria beginning at 5:30 pm.  Parents and student are expected to attend to meet the coaches, go over expectations, receive the schedule for the season and practices etc.

 

 

Boys Basketball Banquet: The banquet for our 6th, 7th and 8th grade boys basketball team is scheduled for Tues., Feb. 25 in the cafeteria beginning at 5:30 pm. The 6th grade team is asked to bring TWO 2 liters of a CHILLED drink (ice will not be provided) while the 7th/8th grade teams are asked to bring a side dish for the fried chicken which will be provided as well as a cake and cupcakes.

 

 

Cross Country for next year: Your season will begin on Monday, August 4. Anyone interested in participating in Cross Country must plan to begin practicing with the team on Monday, August 4. Your required paperwork will be due by July 11, 2014.

 

Baseball for next year: Tryouts will begin on Monday, August 4 – this day will be for anyone wishing to tryout who WAS NOT on the team this year. Tryouts are from 8 until 10 am at Zahnd Park. On Tuesday, Aug. 5 – everyone wishing to tryout must attend – this includes everyone who tried out on Monday, Aug. 4 AND any players who were on the team this year. Tryouts are from 8:00 until 10:00 am AND 4:00 until 5:30 pm. Both sessions of tryouts on this day are required and will be held at Zahnd Park. Anyone wishing to tryout for the baseball team must attend all the scheduled dates/times of tryouts.

 

 

Girl’s Basketball: Tryouts may begin Monday, Sept. 1.   Since that is Labor Day we will hold tryouts on Tues., Sept. 2 and Wed., Sept. 3. Times of tryouts will be announced later.  Anyone wishing to tryout MUST attend both days of tryouts. 6th graders may tryout for the 7th grade team

 

YOUR REQUIRED PAPERWORK IS DUE JULY 11, 2014

 

 

Required paperwork is due by Friday, July 11.

1.  Current physical (athletic physicals are good for 395 days only)

2.  Completed Champaign Unit 4 form

3.  Copy of your insurance/medical card

All School Dance: Friday, February 21 6–8pm

 

 

 

February 21

 

Dance!! Just a reminder that our last all school dance is this Friday, February 21st from 6-8pm. There will be a DJ, Pizza (and other concessions including TCBY!!). Please send your students with $2 for admission and extra money food and drink. If you are volunteering please report to the cafeteria 10 minutes before 6 so you can get to your assigned station before the dance begins.



Box Top Reminder: Don't forget to get your General Mills Box Tops in to Mrs. Wells by this Friday, February 21st.

HUGE THANKS: Big thank you to our volunteers who baked and dropped off cookies. PTSA boxed up more than 90 cookie packages of cookies for teachers and staff. Thank you so much for volunteering you all are awesome!!



Soap Drive: Edison’s College Bound Boys are having a soap drive. We are asking for donations of packaged bar soap. It can even be the packaged soap from hotel rooms. Donations can be put in collection containers located throughout the school.

Box Tops: It's Box Top time again!  Please bring all your box tops from General Mills products in and give them to Mrs. Wells or a classroom teacher to be turned into cash at the end of February.  We had $208.70 sent in this past fall. Please turn your Box Tops and bonus Box Top certificates in by February 21st to be counted this time.

 

 

Central Spirit Wear Sale: We still have some items left that we would love to see on students rather than in boxes!  If you have a student heading to Central in the next year or two now is a great time to pick up some spirit wear to get in to the spirit early!

Gray and Maroon t-shirts all sizes- $10

Gray hooded sweatshirts in S-XL-2XL- $20

Maroon sweatpants in S-M-L -$15

Black sweatpants in M-XL-2XL- $15

Box Tops: It's Box Top time again!  Please bring all your box tops from General Mills products in and give them to Mrs. Wells or a classroom teacher to be turned into cash at the end of February.  We had $208.70 sent in this past fall. Please turn your Box Tops and bonus Box Top certificates in by February 21st to be counted this time.

 

 

Central Spirit Wear Sale: We still have some items left that we would love to see on students rather than in boxes!  If you have a student heading to Central in the next year or two now is a great time to pick up some spirit wear to get in to the spirit early!

Gray and Maroon t-shirts all sizes- $10

Gray hooded sweatshirts in S-XL-2XL- $20

Maroon sweatpants in S-M-L -$15

Black sweatpants in M-XL-2XL- $15

National Junior Honor Society: Applications for the Edison chapter of the National Junior Honor Society are now available on the Edison web-site and in the main office.  Applications are due to Mr. Cain by February 28, 2014.  Current National Junior Honor Society members do not need to complete the applications for this year, but should contact Mr. Cain about their 2013 community service hours.  If there are any questions please contact Mr. Cain at cainza@champaignschools.org or 351-3771.
