Edison's Mission

It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that

ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.

 

National Junior Honor Society Members: Are you interested in getting service hours while at the same time helping clean up the community? If so, Join Ms. Schoonover for the Boneyard Creek Community Day this Saturday, April 23 from 9-12.  Any interested members must sign up in the main office and get a waiver that must be completed by a parent/guardian and brought back to school by Friday, April 22. Details about the location will be given once you are signed up.

Edison will be hosting their first ever track meet on Tues., April 26 at Centennial.  We are in need of 4 more volunteers.  If you would like to volunteer please contact Jackie Borchardt (377 - 8584 or borchaja@champaignschools.org)

ISBE Listening Tour: Representatives of the Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) are hosting a listening tour on the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA). The meeting for Champaign will be next Thursday, April 21st, 4:30 - 6:30 pm at the Illinois Terminal, 45 East University, 4th Floor, Champaign, IL.  See attached flyer for more information and other meeting times/dates/locations.

Public Forum on Dyslexia and Other Learning Differences: April 26, 6:30-8:00 pm at the Urbana Free Library Auditorium, sponsored by LEAP.     A panel composed of parent, Cari Vanderpool; classroom teacher, Jill Quisenberry; Ron Rothschild, family therapist and Elizabeth deGruy, special education director will help us take a look at how we, as parents, educators and advocates can make meaningful connections with our children and youth with dyslexia.  We will look at concepts and skills for helping all of us celebrate the beauties vs. the beasts of learning differently.  Join us for an interactive and helpful evening of lively discussion and useful information.

Illinois PTA SPOTLIGHT : Make plans to attend this arts workshop at Millikin University on Saturday, April 30, 12:30 pm – 4:30 pm. This event is wonderful and is open to all children in Illinois - whether they participated in Reflections or not. Mark Your Calendars: 8th grade promotion will be held on Monday, May 23 at 9:00 am. More information regarding tickets will be given at a later date. 

Parents of 8th Grade Students: please see attachment for a list of important dates in April and May.

Want to help create the EMS 2015-2016 Video Yearbook? Students, Parents & Staff please send your school- appropriate pictures and videos to: cometyearbook2016@gmail.com the video yearbook will end production on the LAST SCHOOL DAY of April.

Drop-off reminder: Remember that cell phone use in a school zone is against the law.  Please do not park your car on Prairie Street during drop-off time and check your mail.  When you do this you make drop-off unsafe for our children because everyone else must drive around you.

Edison Book Drive:  WE NEED BOOKS! PLEASE HELP US BUILD OUR CLASSROOM LIBRARIES WITH HIGH INTEREST TEXTS!!! 5,000 BOOKS is our GOAL. Students can bring book donations to their team's AVID teacher:

          Adventurers - Mrs. Wolz

          Voyagers - Mr. Freeman

          Galaxies - Ms. Whitfield

          Constellations - Mr. Hutchison

          Explorers - Ms. McDonnell

          Navigators- Mr. Holden

Unit 4 Facility Planning: the public is invited to attend Tier II Committee meetings of the Special Committee of Facilities.  The charge of the Tier Two Committee is to review recommendations from Tier One, and based on this information provide recommendations to the Board of Education in the following areas: location of facilities, collaborations/partnerships with other public entities in the Champaign Unit #4 District, and finance/referendum schedule.  You can find a meeting schedule and more information here http://facilityplanning.champaignschools.org/
