October 19

  • Pink Out: The Edison Girls Basketball Program will be collecting and donating money to women battling breast cancer. On October 22nd, students can wear hats by donating $1 and teachers can wear jeans for a $5 donation. The 7th and 8th grade girls basketball team will have their "PINK OUT" game October 22nd at 4:30. Please wear pink to the game to help support those battling against Breast Cancer.

 

  • Athletic Info: Attached is updated athletic schedules for volleyball, basketball, and wrestling.

Athletic Announcements

Athletic Events for Oct. 15–19

 

 

  • Fri., Oct. 19

     6th grade boys basketball tryouts (flier is on bulletin board outside my room)

    

 

 

 Athletic Deadlines:

 

  • Track for 7th graders:  deadline to turn in all 3 pieces of the required paperwork is Oct. 25 sign up will be Mon., Oct. 29

 

  • Wrestling:    deadline to have all 3 pieces of the required paperwork turned in is Fri. Nov. 2 Wrestling is open to all students (boys and girls) in 6th, 7th and 8th grade. Wrestlers can not be participating in Kids Club wrestling if they wish to be on our wrestling team

 

  • Volleyball:  deadline to have all 3 pieces of the required paperwork turned in is Fri. Nov. 2 6th graders can tryout for the 7th grade team.  Coach Taylor can keep 0 up to 5

 

Required paperwork includes:

1.  current physical (if you have a sixth grader and you turned the physical in to the office please let me

    know).  Phsycial form is attached

2.  Completed Champaign Unit 4 form (attached)

3.  Copy of your insurance card or medical card

 

  • Boys Basketball: Boys MUST attend both days of tryouts to be considered for the team

Boys will need to have shorts, tshirt and appropriate basketball shoes

 

 

6th grade team only

     Thurs., Oct. 18 from 5:30 until 7:15 pm in the North Gym

      Fri.,  Oct. 19  from 4:40 until 5:45 pm in the South Gym

 

Boys MUST attend both days of tryouts to be considered for the team

Boys will need to have shorts, t-shirt and appropriate basketball shoes

 

 

Parent meetings for selected boys basketball teams:  Parents and players must attend the parent meeting.

 

7th and 8th grade team parent meeting will be Wed., Oct. 17 at 5:30 pm in the cafeteria

6th grade team parent meeting will be Tues., Oct. 23 at 5:30 pm in the cafeteria

 

Selected members of 6th, 7th and 8th grade teams will be REQUIRED to wear a shirt and tie with dress pants for all home and away games.  I would suggest at least 2 shirts since we have games back to back some weeks.

Edison's Mission

It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.

 

 

 

October 19

 

  • Keegan Bannon Memorial Scholarship Fund: Saturday October 20th at Jupiters at the Crossing starting at 6pm. Edison and Central Jazz Band will be performing along with other local bands! This will be the last benefit for this important cause. The benefit will help keep the scholarship fully funded. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior at Central HS. Tickets are $25 per person and $40 per couple. See attached flyer for more info


  • Science Olympiad: There will be an organizational meeting for the Science Olympiad Team on Tuesday October 23 at 3:00 pm in room 348 for all students who are interested.  Applications will be distributed and the activities of the team will be explained.  The team will be chosen from the applicants to compete against other area middle schools.Thanks, Coach Kevin Kuppler

  • Foreign Language Club: Foreign Language Club will me this Wednesday the 17th in room 140 at 2:45-4PM. The topic will be about day of the dead. We encourage anyone who loves languages or cultures to stop by. All are welcome. We are still looking for volunteers to bring foods related to Day of the Dead or Halloween or to discuss what they do for Day of the Dead.   • 2nd Annual Thanksgiving Family Feast and Movie Night: Edison is pleased to announce the 2nd Annual Thanksgiving Dinner and a movie on Friday, November 16th from 6–8pm. This is for ALL Edison families–everyone is welcome to attend. Please RSVP by November 2nd. See attached flier for more info and to RSVP. Donations accepted but not required.

  • Teacher Appreciation Luncheon: During Parent Teacher conferences October 25 & 26th the PTSA will be serving teachers Lasagna. We will be feeding teachers on Thursday 25th starting at 4pm. We are asking parents to bring in some side dishes: salad, salad dressing, and some dessert options. Please e-mail cosette.fulk@sjcnc.org if you are able to drop something off.

 

 

 

October 12

 

  • Changes for Announcements: Because we have so much info to put into announcements (which is great) we felt it would be helpful if we could separate athletic announcements from the regular announcements. We have an awesome athletic program at Edison and we really want to give it the attention it deserves. Going forward we will separate the announcements. There will be 2 announcements sent out–the regular announcements and then another called "Athletic Alerts."

 

  • No Food Delivery: We want to remind students and parents that ordering food to be delivered during the day is not allowed. We have had students and parents (ordering for students) order food during the school day and this is against school rules.

 

  • EDISON SPIRIT WEAR: It's time to place the final spirit wear order for the school year!  All orders must be paid for in advance, checks made payable to Edison PTSA; the order form is attached.  Orders can be turned in through the office  and must be submitted by Wednesday, October 31st. The final order will be placed the first of November and apparel will be delivered to the students at school as soon as it becomes available in mid-November. If you have any questions please email joclauson@comcast.net


  • Career Fair: Edison is hosting a career fair during Parent/Teacher Conferences (October 25th and October 26th). Sheri Williamson is looking for a few volunteers to work this event. Please contact her at swlmsn79@gmail.com. Attached is a flyer with more info.

  • Edison Book Fair: Edison Book fair will be October 19th–October 26th More information will be coming soon!



  • CUSF ADULT Extreme Spelling Bee: On November 3, 2012, the Champaign Urbana Schools Foundation will hold the first annual Adult Team Extreme Spelling Bee Tournament at 6:30 p.m. at the Champaign Country Club, 1211 S. Prospect Avenue.  Distinguished judges will preside over a diabolical selection of words while teams of three compete in 5-team swarms, all vying for the opportunity to compete in the championship buzz off.  Attached is the registration form.
