EDISON PTSA ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

March 5

 

·         Teacher Appreciation Dinner: The PTSA will be providing dinner for Edison staff members during the parent teacher conferences on March 18th.  We will provide a pasta dinner, garlic bread, and tossed salad.  If you can bring a dessert, drinks, plates, napkins, cups, or silverware, please email Kristian Sargeant, kristian.sargeant@sjcnc.org, and let her know what you are bringing. Also, if you are available to help serve the dinner from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m., 4:00 to 5:30 p.m., or 5:30 to 7:00p.m. please contact Kristian with the times you are able to help. If you have any questions you can email her at kristian.sargeant@sjcnc.org or call her  at 217-202-1642.

 

·         Computer Club: Computer Club will meet Monday, March 8th in the computer lab with the Flying Illini.

 

·         Student Council Meeting: Student Council will meet Wednesday, March 10th in Rm 234 from 2:45-3:30 p.m.  They are planning School Spirit Days and are making posters.

 

·         Book Fair Volunteers: The library is looking for parent volunteers to help with the upcoming Scholastic Bookfair, March 12 - 19. Volunteers are especially needed Thursday, March 18th during Parent/Teacher Conferences 4-8 pm. Check out the fair website: http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bookfairs/cptoolkit/publish/edisonlibrary. ·         ISAT Reward: ISAT Reward Movie is TODAY.  Students should have turned in their permission slip and money in order to go.  Students need to bring a sack lunch and snack money.  They are to keep the snack money themselves (DO NOT  turn it in to a teacher). If you have any questions contact Jackie Borchardt (borchaja@champaignschools.org).

 

·         Fundraiser for Wrestling: Support Edison’s Wrestling team by eating at Po’ Boys between 4-8 p.m. on Monday, March 8. 10% of the sales go to the group. See the flier for more details.

 

 

March 3

 

·         Science Olympiad: The Edison Science Olympiad Team competed with true spirit last Saturday at the Regional Competition at Central High School.  The team got 7th place overall, with individual event medals going to Bio Process Lab (1st place) Alice Trellakis and Maria Laros, Pentathalon (2nd place) Nick Hittle, Maria Laros, Kavi Naidu, and Thomas Phelps, Disease Detectives (3rd place) Lauren Klindworth and Ryley Morfey, and Fossils (4th place) Joaquin Malik and Thomas Phelps.  Congratulations to the entire team: Aashika Ashok, Shobhit Bhaskar, Julian Brennan-Pomatto, Ben Carlton, Nick Hittle, Jennifer Hong, Rishabh Jaryal, Lauren Klindworth, Kelisha Koradiya, Maria Laros, Ryley Morfey, Joaquin Malik, Kavi Naidu, Joon Young Park, Thomas Phelps, Corbin Phillips, Suzie Reardanz, Alice Trekalis, and Michael Yoo for an excellent effort and a great year!

 

·         Spring Concert:  The 6th Grade and 7th/8th Grade Concert bands will perform their Spring Concert on Thursday, March 11th at 7:00pm in the Edison Middle School Auditorium.  The 6th Graders will be performing a variety of five new tunes that have stretched and propelled them to the next level in their playing.  The 7th/8th Graders will be performing a complete concert of works by modern composer Richard Saucedo:  Windsprints (with Alice Trellakis on Piano), Song of the Gandy Dancers (with Gabe Mitchell on Piano), Rondo for Band (directed by our student teacher, Mr. Eikenberry), Dreamsong (featuring Chase Ellsworth on Piano), and Theme and Tirade.  As always the concert is FREE.  Please come out to hear Edison’s wonderful musicians!

 

·         Band Fundraiser: Before the concert, enjoy an Italian meal and support the band. Dinner is held from 5-6:30 p.m. The cost is $5 per person. For more information and to reserve your meal, see the attached document. 

 

·         Volleyball: The 7th grade VB team beat Franklin in 3 tough games in their first regional game Monday night but finished their season last night with a great game but tough loss to Mahomet. They finished the season with a 15-5 record.  Congrats on a great season!! Comets should come out to Jefferson on Tuesday, March 9 at 7:00 p.m. to cheer on the 8th grade team as they take on Urbana in their first regional game. Good Luck!

·         Special Thanks: The yearbook is done! Special thanks to all those parents who contributed pictures! We couldn't have done it without you! - Mrs. Easton & the Yearbook Committee

 

·         8th graders:  Don’t forget to bring in your baby pictures.  Explorers can give their pictures to Mr. Guzman while Navigators can give their pictures to Ms. Borchardt.  Please make sure your name in on the pictures or put them in an envelope with your name on the envelope.

 

·         Volleyball: Regionals for Volleyball begin tonight at Jefferson. The Comets take on Franklin. Come out and cheer them on! The 7th grade team beat Franklin in two games last week. The 8th grade team lost in a hard fought 3 games.
