Edison's Mission

It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.

 

Congratulations to Justin McCoy who participated in the IESA sectional golf tournament on Saturday.  Justin has advanced to the IESA state final on Sat., Sept. 19 at  Kellogg Golf Course, Peoria

Cheer tryouts begin today from 4 until 6 pm in the south gym.

In order to tryout you must have a current physical, completed Unit 4 form, completed waiver form and a copy of your insurance card/medical card on file with Ms. Borchardt not the main office.  If you have papers you can drop them off in room 122 until 3 pm on  Monday, Sept. 14.

Boys Basketball tryouts will be Monday, Oct. 19 and Tuesday, Oct. 20

Upcoming events:

For home basketball, volleyball and wrestling events all Edison students MUST have their school ID to be admitted to the event.  Admission is $1 for students and $2 for adults.  Students are expected to have a ride home 15 min. after the completion of the event.  Students are to leave school at 2:40 then return at 4 pm using door #6.  Students are to enter gym only after receiving an admission ticket.

 

Tuesday, Sept. 15

    Edison Baseball will be hosting Rantoul Eater at Zahnd, 4:30 pm for the first round of regional play.  The winner will advance to play on Sat., Sept. 19 in Rantoul.

   Our Lady Comets open their basketball seaon with a home game against Tolono Unity in the north gym.  The 7th grade game begins at 4:15 with the 8th grade game to follow the completion of the 7th grade game.  Remember you must have your ID to enter the game and $1 for admission.  Please make sure you have a ride home.  If you are at Edison 15 min. after the completion of the 8th grade game you will not be allowed to attend the next home game.

Edison's Mission

It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.

 

PTSA: The next meeting of Edison PTSA will be Monday September 14 (that's tonight!) at 6 pm in the Edison Library (rescheduled from Sept 21 to accommodate Open House).  We will vote on the annual budget (attached) and discuss upcoming events.  Agenda is attached. See you there!

The Band Patrons Meeting is also tonight, Monday 9/14 at 7 pm in the Edison MS auditorium. The Bands and Director rely on band parents (Patrons) to keep the band program running smoothly. They need your participation to continue this great program.  Whether you are a returning band parent or new to the bands, come and find out what the Patrons do. Many volunteer positions are available.  Check out the Edison Band Middle School Families Facebook page or the bands webpage  www.ems-bands.com.  

Student Council will meet on Wed. Sept 16th 2:45-3:30 in room 234.  Anyone can join Student Council.  There will be elections within the club for 2 Co-Presidents and 2 Secretaries. 

Drama Club: Any student who enjoys acting should come to the Drama club meeting Wednesday, September 16^th after school in the auditorium. At that time we will be discussing Drama competition, improv, partner scenes the Spring musical and a possible field trip. You do not have to have any previous acting experience to be in the club so come and join the fun.

Come join us for Fall Open House on Monday, September 21, from 6:30-8:00. This will be a great opportunity for you to learn more about Edison, meet teachers, and see some of the wonderful extra-curricular activities we have to offer.

Choir: Does your student sound awesome singing along to the radio in the car? The Edison Choir meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 4pm. The choir is open to anyone who likes singing. You don't need any experience to join us. We're going to have some great times this year! Parents, if you have questions please contact Mr. Dare at dareje@champaignschools.org

Builders' Club will begin meeting after school on Wednesdays, starting September 9 in Mrs Easton's room (above the main office). If you love building, or if you want some experience using tools, join us! No experience necessary. This year we will work on a couple little projects, then we'll join Garden Club out at a local farm to assemble a chicken coop and build hoop houses for the winter. In association with the AV Club, Mr. Holden produces a yearly video year book. Throughout the year, if you have pictures of dances, sports events, team activities, field trips, club activities or classroom projects that you would like to share, please email them to Mr. Holden.    holdenal@champaignschools.org

Lunch Reminder: Students are NOT ALLOWED to order lunch and have it delivered to the school. If a parent wants to bring lunch to their student (Mcdonalds, pizza, etc) they have to stay with the child and eat with them in the cafeteria.

Drop Off and Pick Up Reminders: Do not drop off on Green Street.  Prairie Street (west of the school) is one way going north during drop-off and pick-up times.  To keep kids and vehicles safe, cars coming from the west (turning left onto Prairie) may pull over on the left side of Prairie, and cars coming from the east (turning right onto Prairie) pull over on the right side of Prairie.  Please pull forward as far as you can because there are a lot of cars waiting behind you, often as far back as the Green St/State St intersection.  Do try to wait for the car in front of you to pull away (instead of trying to pass) as there will be a lot of kids trying to get to the blacktop.  Also, please do not park on Prairie Street during drop off because this clogs traffic flow and creates an unsafe environment for our kids. 

Champaign Public Library change in hours: if you plan to have your child spend time at the Champaign Public Library after school, please note their change in hours.  The library will close at 6 pm on Thursdays and Fridays.  You can find library information here: http://www.champaign.org/
