Edison's Mission

It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.

 

 

 

Oct 9

 

  • Half Day: Thursday October 11th is a half-day (School Improvement) dismissal time is 11:10.

 

  • Teacher Appreciation Luncheon: During Parent Teacher conferences October 25 & 26th the PTSA will be serving teachers Lasagna. We will be feeding teachers on Thursday 25th starting at 12pm. We are asking parents to bring in some side dishes: salad, salad dressing, and some dessert options. Please e-mail cosette.fulk@sjcnc.org if you are able to drop something off.

 

October 8

 

  • Calendars: Remember if you ordered your calendar, come pick it up before the Edison PTSA meeting on Tuesday. We will be selling/distributin from 6:45-7pm. You do not have to stay for the meeting in order to pick up calendar.

 

  • PTSA Meeting: The next Edison PTSA meeting will be Tuesday, October 9th at 7pm. We will have a short guest presentation from Abigail Chen from KIDS MOVEMENT ARTS. We will be distributing calendars before the meeting. If you have ordered one and didn't pick it up yet or still want to grab one now is the time to do it. We will be selling/distributing from 6:45–7pm.

 

  • Budget: Attached to the announcements is the PTSA proposed budget for the 2012–2013 school year. We will be voting to approve a budget on Tuesday evening.

 

  • EDISON SPIRIT WEAR: It's time to place the final spirit wear order for the school year!  All orders must be paid for in advance, checks made payable to Edison PTSA; the order form is attached.  Orders can be turned in through the office  and must be submitted by Wednesday, October 31st. The final order will be placed the first of November and apparel will be delivered to the students at school as soon as it becomes available in mid-November. If you have any questions please email joclauson@comcast.net

Athletic Events for Oct. 8 - Oct. 13

 

Tues., Oct. 9

     GBB vs. Franklin, 4:15 pm

 

Wed., Oct. 10

     GBB at Holy Cross, 6 pm

 

Thurs., Oct. 11

      GBB vs Jefferson, 4:15 pm  (This is an SIP day with 11:10 am dismissal)

 

Sat., Oct. 13 

      XC STATE (Girls race begins at 1 pm with boys race to begin at 1:45 pm at Normal Parkside, Maxwell Park)

 

 

 

Athletic Deadlines:

 

  • Boys Basketball:  deadline for all 3 pieces of the required paperwork was due Sept. 28).  No one can tryout unless they have turned in all 3 pieces of the required paperwork.

 

  • Track for 8th graders:  deadline to turn in all 3 pieces of the required paperwork is Fri., Oct. 10. sign up will be Mon., Oct. 12

 

  • Track for 7th graders:  deadline to turn in all 3 pieces of the required paperwork is Oct. 25 sign up will be Mon., Oct. 29

 

  • Wrestling:    deadline to have all 3 pieces of the required paperwork turned in is Fri. Nov. 2 Wrestling is open to all students (boys and girls) in 6th, 7th and 8th grade. Wrestlers can not be participating in Kids Club wrestling if they wish to be on our wrestling team

 

  • Volleyball:  deadline to have all 3 pieces of the required paperwork turned in is Fri. Nov. 2 6th graders can tryout for the 7th grade team.  Coach Taylor can keep 0 up to 5

 

Required paperwork includes:

1.  current physical (if you have a sixth grader and you turned the physical in to the office please let me

    know).  Phsycial form is attached

2.  Completed Champaign Unit 4 form (attached)

3.  Copy of your insurance card or medical card

 

  • Open Gym: Open gyms for all boys at Edison Middle School only will be on the following dates from 7:30 until 9:00 pm. Please make sure to have transportation home for you son at 9:00 pm sharp. Boys can not hang out at Edison from 2:40 until 7:30 or if they attend the GBB games they will need to leave after the game returning at 7:30 pm.

  • Boys basektball tryout dates/times

 

7th grade (6th graders can tryout for this team as well.  Coach Cain can keep 0 up to 5)

       Mon. Oct. 15 and Tues., Oct. 16

       from 3:00 until 4:30 pm

       in the North Gym

Boys MUST attend both days of tryouts to be considered for the team

Boys will need to have shorts, tshirt and appropriate basketball shoes

 

 

8th grade

        Mon. Oct. 15 and Tues., Oct. 16

       from 7:30 until 9:00  pm

       in the North Gym

 

Boys MUST attend both days of tryouts to be considered for the team

Boys will need to have shorts, tshirt and appropriate basketball shoes

 

 

6th grade team only

     Thurs., Oct. 18 from 5:30 until 7:15 pm in the North Gym

      Fri.,  Oct. 19  from 4:40 until 5:45 pm in the South Gym

 

Boys MUST attend both days of tryouts to be considered for the team

Boys will need to have shorts, t-shirt and appropriate basketball shoes

 

 

Parent meetings for selected boys basketball teams:  Parents and players must attend the parent meeting.

 

7th and 8th grade team parent meeting will be Wed., Oct. 17 at 5:30 pm in the cafeteria

6th grade team parent meeting will be Tues., Oct. 23 at 5:30 pm in the cafeteria

 

Selected members of 6th, 7th and 8th grade teams will be REQUIRED to wear a shirt and tie with dress pants for all home and away games.  I would suggest at least 2 shirts since we have games back to back some weeks.

 

October 5

 

  • Career Fair: Edison is hosting a career fair during Parent/Teacher Conferences (October 25th and October 26th). Sheri Williamson is looking for a few volunteers to work this event. Please contact her at swlmsn79@gmail.com. Attached is a flyer with more info.


  • MLK Writing Contest: MLK writing contest sponsored by the University of Illinois/ Public Outreach see attached flyers (English and Spanish) for more info.

 

  • Edison Book Fair: Edison Book fair will be October 19th–October 26th More information will be coming soon!



  • Keegan Bannon Memorial Scholarship Fund: Saturday October 20th at Jupiters at the Crossing starting at 6pm. Edison and Central Jazz Band will be performing along with other local bands! This will be the last benefit for this important cause. The benefit will help keep the scholarship fully funded. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior at Central HS. Tickets are $25 per person and $40 per couple. See attached flyer for more info

 

  • CUSF ADULT Extreme Spelling Bee: On November 3, 2012, the Champaign Urbana Schools Foundation will hold the first annual Adult Team Extreme Spelling Bee Tournament at 6:30 p.m. at the Champaign Country Club, 1211 S. Prospect Avenue.  Distinguished judges will preside over a diabolical selection of words while teams of three compete in 5-team swarms, all vying for the opportunity to compete in the championship buzz off.  Attached is the registration form.
