Cross Country for next year: Your season will begin on Monday, August 4. Anyone interested in participating in Cross Country must plan to begin practicing with the team on Monday, August 4. Your required paperwork will be due by July 11, 2014.

 

Baseball for next year: Tryouts will begin on Monday, August 4 – this day will be for anyone wishing to tryout who WAS NOT on the team this year. Tryouts are from 8 until 10 am at Zahnd Park. On Tuesday, Aug. 5 – everyone wishing to tryout must attend – this includes everyone who tried out on Monday, Aug. 4 AND any players who were on the team this year. Tryouts are from 8:00 until 10:00 am AND 4:00 until 5:30 pm. Both sessions of tryouts on this day are required and will be held at Zahnd Park. Anyone wishing to tryout for the baseball team must attend all the scheduled dates/times of tryouts.

 

 

Girl’s Basketball: Tryouts may begin Monday, Sept. 1.   Since that is Labor Day we will hold tryouts on Tues., Sept. 2 and Wed., Sept. 3. Times of tryouts will be announced later.  Anyone wishing to tryout MUST attend both days of tryouts. 6^th graders may tryout for the 7^th grade team

 

YOUR REQUIRED PAPERWORK IS DUE JULY 11, 2014

 

 

Required paperwork is due by Friday, July 11.

 

Required paperwork for athletics:

1.  Current physical (athletic physicals are good for 395 days only)

2.  Completed Champaign Unit 4 form

3.  Copy of your insurance/medical card

Edison’s Mission

It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.

Java and Jazz:  We'd like to you invite you to Edison's annual Java & Jazz dinner and dance night, which showcases the school's award-winning jazz program. Just this month our Jazz 1 and Jazz Combo groups were recognized at the Purdue Music Festival, competing mostly against high school bands.

 

This year's event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Friday, February 7, at the Urbana Labor Union Hall, 108 E. Anthony Drive, U.

 

The ticket price of $28 includes a full dinner buffet, dessert and a beverage. A cash bar will also be available throughout the evening.

 

The program begins at 6:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour featuring Jazz 3. The buffet will follow at 7 p.m. with music by Jazz 2. Capping the evening will be performances by Jazz 1 and the new Jazz Combo ensemble featuring works from Miles Davis, Wynton Marsalis, Thelonius Monk and more. We'll also have some Edison alums as celebrity guest emcees!

Mini-Maroons at Central High School: Central HS is having a cheer clinic for boys and girls ages 4-12 next weekend--February 9th See attached the flyer with all the information. If anyone needs further information they may contact Mallory Brewer via email brewerma@champaignschools.org

National Junior Honor Society: Applications for the Edison chapter of the National Junior Honor Society are now available on the Edison web-site and in the main office.  Applications are due to Mr. Cain by February 28, 2014.  Current National Junior Honor Society members do not need to complete the applications for this year, but should contact Mr. Cain about their 2013 community service hours.  If there are any questions please contact Mr. Cain at cainza@champaignschools.org or 351-3771.

School Dance: Edison’s next all school dance will be Friday, February 21st from 6-8pm. We will have a DJ and food for sale. Admission to the dance is $2, permission slip, and student ID. To volunteer to chaperone/work the dance please e-mail apatton2@gmail.com. We need volunteers to make this fun and safe for the students.

 

PTSA Meeting: The next PTSA meeting will be right before Future Freshmen Night on February 11th. The meeting will be held in the Library at 6:30pm. All are welcome to attend.

 

 

Future Freshmen Night: Attention all 8^th grade parents!! Central/Centennial principals will be coming to Edison Tuesday, February 11^th at 7pm in the Edison auditorium. They will be talking to parents about what students can expect and be able to answer questions. Students are welcome to attend this meeting too.
