A letter from Principal Uppinghouse

June 5, 2014

Dear Edison Middle School Family (Parents/Guardians/Mentors/Volunteers):

I am writing this letter to inform you that I am resigning from my position as Edison Middle School Principal, effective after June 30, 2014. My wife and I have been presented with an amazing opportunity to move to Nashville, Tennessee, a city that we have always loved, and continue to work in the field of education.   I have thoroughly enjoyed my tenure as the Assistant Principal and Principal at Edison Middle School and I want to thank you for the opportunity to lead your children throughout my five years in administration. Your support of Edison, its teachers, and staff has been unwavering and I hope that I, personally, have met your expectations as a leader and role model for your students. I am confident that Edison's administrative team, teachers and staff will continue to provide an excellent learning environment for future students and families. Edison has always been known for its tremendous band program, its cultural diversity, and its rich history; however, what I want people to know as I leave the Unit 4 School District is that Edison is a place where students can thrive. Edison is a place that students can form strong relationships that will last a lifetime. Edison is a place that parents can send their children knowing that they will leave as better citizens. I wish the best for the Champaign Unit 4 School District and look forward to hearing about the positive accomplishments of Edison as I begin my new position.

Again thank you for the opportunity to be a leader in Champaign. The District administration is aware of this upcoming transition, and will be in communication with the Edison community soon regarding plans moving forward. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at justin.uppinghouse@gmail.com. In addition, if there is any assistance I can provide during this transition, please let me know.

Sincerely,

Justin Uppinghouse

Principal

Edison Middle School

Fall Registration: Registration will be August 5th, times will be announced at a later date along with late registration dates.

Future Central Site: Champaign Unit 4 School District will host a Community Meeting on June 17 from 6-8 p.m. at Central High School to share information and gather feedback from the community regarding the future educational plans for its high school facilities. All are welcome to attend.

The District has been working with Champaign-based Gorski Reifsteck and the nationally-renowned DLR Group assist with the programming and planning for a new Central High School and a renovated Centennial High School.

Gorski Reifsteck/DLR Group has conducted a series of meetings with the District's teachers, students, and administrators to determine the academic programs that will be available at each school in the future and ensure adequate space is allocated for the growing student population.

Community members are invited to attend the Community Meeting to learn more about the proposed educational program at each school as well as learn more about the next steps in the planning process.

Feedback collected at the Community Meeting--in addition to internal stakeholder meetings, enrollment data, site analyses, community surveys, and other studies commissioned by or available to the District--will help to inform the Board of Education as it makes decisions regarding the future of the District's high schools.
