RC Flying Club: Edison's RC Flying Club has participated in this and had a great experience. Please feel free to come out and join them. It's a great family activity.

Our Flight Training program will start on Thursday, 5/19/11 and continue every Thursday evening through the summer (weather permitting) at the CCRCC Airfield (on 150 between Champaign & Mahomet) from about 5:00 pm until dusk. The last session will be on 9/22/2011. The sessions will be cancelled without notice due to strong rain, strong winds > 15mph, and threatening thunderstorms.

The club provides the models, fuel, and expert instruction - so just bring a positive attitude and enthusiasm (a hat and a pair of good sunglasses certainly wouldn't hurt either). This is open to the public and no prior experience is necessary. Come out and join the fun!! All students are invited to come to the CCRC Flying Field every Thursday 5 to 8 pm. during the summer. There will be RC planes there for you to learn to fly.

Kids Feast: Attached is a flier with information about Kids Feast which is a week long summer program.

Principal Update for Edison: We are pleased to announce that Justin Uppinghouse has been named Interim Principal at Edison. Tony Howard has been named Interim Assistant Principal. Congrats to both!

Congrats to Mrs.Easton!! Mrs. Easton gave birth to a healthy and beautiful baby boy! Samuel James Easton Born May 11 at 2:44pm 7 lbs, 0 ozs 20.5 inches long. Mama and baby are both home and doing well.

My name is Andrew Peralta and I help to coach Centennial Boys Soccer. We are hoping to have all interested 8^th grade (incoming freshman) boys join us for our summer workouts starting in a few weeks and we wanted to make sure that they got the information. Below is info about the summer soccer.

Principal Update for Edison: We are pleased to announce that Justin Uppinghouse has been named Interim Principal at Edison. Tony Howard has been named Interim Assistant Principal. Congrats to both!

8^th Grade Promotion: Promotion will soon be here! Congratulations to our 8^th grade students! We want our family members to have an opportunity to celebrate their 8^th graders accomplishments, but we ask you to do the following:

· If you plan on giving flowers to your child, please hold the flowers until after the ceremony.

· Please do not bring balloons into the auditorium. Balloons block the view of the other guests.

· Please do not have your child dropped off or picked up in a limousine around the perimeter of the school building.

· Please make sure that your child has taken care of any lost textbooks, library fines, lost locks, etc.

· Each family will receive two tickets. On the day of Promotion you will have an opportunity to pick up additional tickets if you have called and have been put on the wait list. Mrs. Lanman will be at a desk as you come in the playground door. Tickets will still be limited. If you know you will not be attending the ceremony and have extra tickets, please email Mrs. Lanman at lanmanan@champaignschools.org

· Entrance to the school will only be available at the playground doors.

· If you have a need for handicapped assistance, please call so we can help make those arrangements.

· The doors will open for seating at 8:30 a.m.

· We understand that our families are tremendously proud of their 8^th graders, but we ask that you refrain from clapping while we are giving the students their certificates. We want every child's name to be heard and that can not be done while others are cheering.

· Due to limited parking on the street, the Champaign Public Library has been gracious enough to allow parking on the east side of their parking lot. However, you will have to enter through the playground entrance. If you need handicapped parking, that will take place on the playground. Please do not park on Prairie Street on the east side. You may get ticketed.

Thank you for a wonderful school year and best of luck for continued success for your child. Looking forward to honoring our 8^th grade students on May 27^th!

Band: Edison's band program will be traveling to Disney World during the next school year. Any families with incoming 6th graders who would like to learn about the band program or the trip are invited to a presentation this Thursday, May 26, at 7:00 pm at the Champaign Public Library.

8^th Grade Promotion: Promotion will be on May 27^th at 9am in the Edison auditorium. Due to space limitations we are providing 2 tickets to attend the ceremony. Tickets can be picked up at the Dean's office from 7:30am-4 pm. Doors will open at 8:30 am. After guests with tickets have been seated, other guests will be allowed to enter. If you will not be using your tickets, or need more than 2 please contact Mrs. Lanman to make arrangements at 351-3771.

8^th Grade Dance: Basic Information about the 8th Grade Dance

*The Dance is Thursday, May 26 from 7:00-9:00pm. Admission to the dance begins at 6:50pm.

*Only 8th Grade Edison students will be allowed.

*Admission is Free.

*Students must have a signed permission slip and their student ID.

*No one is permitted in after 7:30 p.m.

*Snacks and Cake are free.

*All students must remain in the building until the dance is dismissed at 9 p.m.

*8th Grade Teachers and 8th Grade Parents will chaperone the dance.

*Student Council is sponsoring this event. If you have any questions, please email Mr. Guzman or Mrs. Altenbuamer.

Poms/Cheer Summer Camp!:

Who: Incoming 6th - 9th grade girls (from any school) may attend. (ages are flexible)

What: Learn a great dance routine, cheers, make school spirit crafts, and perform for family and friends!

Where: Edison Middle School North Gym

When: June 6 - 10, 9:30 am - noon

Why: Just to have a blast, get dancing, and enjoy energizing music! (Guess what? If you're trying out for EMS Poms next fall, you'll already know the dance routine and cheer if you came to the summer camp!)

Central Golf Outing: The Central High School Golf Teams will sponsor a golf outing at the University of Illinois Blue Course on Saturday, May 28. The cost is $65 per golfer which includes cart, green fee, lunch, prizes and beverages. Tee times start at 8am, so call Larry Becker at 766-3532 for more information or to sign up your foursome! The entry form is attached.

BoxTops: Before the end of the school year, please turn in any Boxtops for Education labels that you have saved. Also remember to keep collecting them over the summer so we can use them next year.

Community Events:

Retirement Party: The South Side PTA is hosting a retirement party for Mrs. Burgett and Mrs. Bell next week. All South Side families, faculty, staff, alumni and interested community members are invited to the Retirement Party for:  Mrs. Sally Burgett  and Mrs. Amanda Bell  To be held on May 26, 2011 from 3:00 until 4:30 p.m. in the South Side Gymnasium.  A short program will commence at 3:15 and refreshments will follow.
