EDISON PTSA ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

September 30

 

·         Leadership Academy for Students: During Convocation today, Edison students will learn about a wonderful leadership opportunity.   Sigma Phi Epsilon, a fraternity at the University of Illinois, will partner with Edison to create a Leadership Academy.  Sixty students (30 seventh graders and 30 eighth graders) will meet for three different 1 ½ hour sessions.  The attached Sig Ep Application has more details about how students may qualify.  The first Academy session will be at the Champaign Public Library on Wednesday, November 3.

 

·         Spiritwear: PTSA representatives will be handing out Edison Spiritwear at school over the lunch hour today.  

 

·         Computer Club: The 2nd meeting of Edison’s Computer Club will be today (Wednesday) after school until 3:30 p.m.  They will be creating stick animation.  All students are welcome!

 

·         Picture Day: Edison will hold picture day on October 2.  Students will get their pictures taken during their PE class. Your student should have received a packet with more information including an order form.

 

·         Carpentry Skills Needed: The Physical Education department at Edison has a ping pong table that is in need of repair.  If you or someone you know has carpentry skills and can help out, please email Marilyn Mastny at mastnyma@champaignschools.org.

 

September 28

 

·         Student Council: Student Council will meet Wednesday, September 30 in room 234 from 2:45 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.  Our next big topic will be the Eastern Illinois Food Bank Food Drive starting in October.  Also, we will be participating in the Eastern Illinois Food Bank’s “Food Fight”  which is a contest between area schools to raise the most money.  Updates on the leading schools will be announced on WCIA’s Morning Show each morning from October 5 - 16 by Rob and Ann.  Please encourage your children to donate their loose change rather than buying extra chips or drinks from the vending machines.  Each homeroom will have a teacher collecting the money.

 

·         Volunteers Needed for School Dance This Friday:  The first school dance at Edison Middle School is Friday, October 2 from 6 - 8 p.m.  It is usually the largest of the year. Jenny Redden, coordinator for the dance, is looking for a minimum of 25 volunteers to help sell concessions and monitor the gym. Volunteers should arrive at 5:45 p.m. and check in at the concession table in the cafeteria. There will be a table with name tags and duty assignments. If you would like to volunteer, please let Jenny know by contacting her directly, jenlyn.redden@gmail.com. Some kids prefer that their parents stay in the cafeteria and not be in the gym, just let her know. 

 

There is a need for volunteers to do the following:

o    2 money takers- keeping all children in the gym until 6:30 p.m.

o    2 main door monitors- helping to keep the lines straight and orderly until everyone is check in and not letting anyone leave until the dance is over

o    8 concession volunteers- selling of the sugary treats

o    8 gym monitors- making sure the dancing is appropriate and there are no problems in the gym

o    2 floaters - walking the halls, gym, and concessions area

o    2 restroom monitors - You can trade off between the restroom and gym duties during the evening 

o    2 parking lot monitors - When the dance is over, helping with the flow and supervision of those waiting outside.

 

Everything will be set up and ready to go! Please reply to Jenny Redden, jenlyn.redden@gmail.com, if you can help. Tell friends who may also want to help. The dance is sponsored by the PTSA and is a great way to raise money for the school.

 

·         Basic Information about the School Dance, Friday October 2 from 6 -8 p.m.

o   Admission is $2

o   Students must have a signed permission slip and their student ID

o   No one is permitted in after 6:30 p.m.

o   Pizza and concessions are available

o   All students must remain in the building until the dance is dismissed at 8 p.m.

 

·         Cross Country: Congratulations to Ashton Hyatt for winning a medal at the cross country meet in Peoria on Friday. The cross country team competes again tomorrow (Tuesday) in Tolono.

 

September 25

 

·         Fall Holiday: There is no school on Monday, September 28. It is a fall holiday.

 

·         Reflections: Are you creative?  Participate in the 2009-10 PTA Reflections Program. Create a work of art (dance choreography, film production, literature, musical composition, photography and visual arts) that illustrates the theme "Beauty is...."   Entry forms and official rules are available in the school office.  The deadline for entries is Tuesday, October 20th at 4:00 p.m.  Questions?   Contact Lauren Smith at 352-0809 or Laurentols@aol.com.
