Important Dates Coming up for October:

 

October 4th–Picture Day

 

 

 

September 26

 

  • No School: No school on September 26th (Fall Holiday)

 

  •  Teacher Appreciation: Teacher Appreciation is coming up Friday September 28th. We are asking for volunteers to bring in breakfast items such as: bagels, cream cheese, muffins, danish, granola bars, fresh fruit, hot tea bags or other breakfast items you feel like bringing in. Please e-mail Cosette at <cosette.fulk@sjcnc.org> to let her know what item(s) you are able to bring.

 

  • PTA Council: Thursday October 4th from 7-9pm at the IDEA Store PTA Council will be meeting. Join in on "International Night" roundtable discussion afterwards there will be a special presentation from CUSF (CU Schools Foundation) and United Way. Regular business meeting will follow and ALL are welcome to attend.

 

September 25

 

  • Calendar of Events: Did you order a calendar of events at registration and still need to pick it up? Or didn't have a chance to order? There will be another opportunity for you to pick up your calendar. Tuesday October 9th from 6:30-7pm PTSA will be distributing from the Edison Library. Calendars are $15 (cash or check).


  • MLK Writing Contest: MLK writing contest sponsored by the University of Illinois/ Public Outreach see attached flyers (English and Spanish) for more info.

 

  • LEAP Workshop: TESTS FOR DYSLEXIA:Focusing on Strengths and Weaknesses

PRESENTER: KATHRYN LESKIS, Ph.D

PROVIDER:  LEAP (Linking Educators And Parents) a dyslexia study group, serving East Central Illinois TIME: Tuesday, September 25, 6:30 to 8:00 PM

LOCATION:  Urbana Free Library Auditorium, 200 West Green Street in Urbana

  • Edison Book Fair: Edison Book fair will be October 19th–October 26th More information will be coming soon!


  • FREE SCHOOL PHYSICALS: Champaign County Christian Health Center is offering two more free school physical nights (ONLY physicals, we CANNOT do immunizations). The second date  is Thursday, October 4th. To schedule an appointment, parents or guardians can simply call (217) 402-5683. As a volunteer clinic we have very limited hours so it is best to leave a message with your request and we will call back. The location is 507 S Second St in Champaign. It is on the corner of Second and Healey in the Dental Circle Building (2nd floor).

 


  • NSBE Jr.: The first meeting of NSBE Jr. has been postponed.  The club will not be meeting this Wednesday.  We hope to be able to meet on October 3rd, but keep watching the announcements for further updates.  Once we get started, we will be meeting regularly in Mr. Freeman's room (248). 

 

  • Keegan Bannon Memorial Scholarship Fund: Saturday October 20th at Jupiters at the Crossing starting at 6pm. Edison and Central Jazz Band will be performing along with other local bands! This will be the last benefit for this important cause. The benefit will help keep the scholarship fully funded. The scholarship is awarded to a graduating senior at Central HS. Tickets are $25 per person and $40 per couple. See attached flyer for more info

 

  • CUSF ADULT Extreme Spelling Bee: On November 3, 2012, the Champaign Urbana Schools Foundation will hold the first annual Adult Team Extreme Spelling Bee Tournament at 6:30 p.m. at the Champaign Country Club, 1211 S. Prospect Avenue.  Distinguished judges will preside over a diabolical selection of words while teams of three compete in 5-team swarms, all vying for the opportunity to compete in the championship buzz off.  Attached is the registration form.

Athletic Announcements week of 9/24–9/28


  • Baseball: Congratualtions to our baseball team on a fantastic season.Our regional team advanced to the regional championship game last Tues.  This is the first time in our short baseball history for our team to have advanced to the regional championship game.

     

 

Tuesday -  XC at Unity, 3:30 pm

                 GBB home game against St. Joe, 4:15 pm

 

Wednesday - NO SCHOOL

     

Thursday - XC conference meet at Jefferson, 4:15 pm

                  GBB home game against Tuscola, 4:15 pm

     

Saturday - XC at Monticello, 9 am

 

  • Athletic deadlines: Current physical, Completed Champaign Unit 4 form and proof of insurance (copy of insurance card or medical card) are due by for:

    BBB (6th, 7th and 8th grade) -  this Friday (Sept. 28)

    8th graders intersted in track -    Fri., Oct. 12

    Wrestling -  Fri., Nov. 2

    Volleyball (6th, 7th and 8th grade) - Fri., Nov. 2

 

Outside the cafeteria in the lobby and outside room 122 there is a list which has the names of all students who have turned in a physical, unit 4 form or insurance info to me.  If the word YES is next to their name they are able to tryout for any sport.  If the word NO is next to their name I have listed what they are missing.  Until the missing pieces are turned in the student CAN NOT tryout for any sport.  I update the list every Monday.

 

For any 6th graders wishing to tryout please let me know. If you turned a physical in to the main office I will need to copy it for my records.  You will still need to turn in the Unit 4 form and insurance info.

 

 

  • Coach Needed:  we are in need of a varsity wrestling coach.  If you know of anyone interested have them call me at 217 - 377 – 8584 (Jackie).

  • Attention Edison Volunteers: Anyone that plans to volunteer one hour per week or more at Edison needs to complete a criminal background check and attend an orientation session.  Background check forms can be obtained by e-mailing Lynnette Dodds at doddsly@champaignschools.org.  Orientation sessions will be held September 19th and 20th from 4:00-4:30 in the Edison library.  Please contact Lynnette if you have any questions. 

 

  • Food Giveaway: Eastern Illinois Foodbank is giving away food to families that meet the eligibility guidelines on September 22nd from 9-11am in Rantoul. Please see attached flyer for more info. You will need to bring bags or boxes with you to collect your food items.

 

  • Edison Choir: Edison Choir meets after school on Tuesdays in Mrs. Mennig's room, 110.  Anyone can join – all are welcome!  Please email her if you have any questions at menniger@champaignschools.org.

     XC at Detweiler Park  (runners will be dismissed from class at 1:15 pm)

 XC: Congratulations to our XC runners at the meet at Normal Parkside this past Saturday.Girls tied for 4th as a team, the boys placed 3rd. 

Girl's Basketball: On Tues. our Lady Comets will have their first home game.  Please come out to support our girls basketball teams.  Admission for students is only $1.00.  Doors will open at 4 pm.  Please do not go into the gym prior to 4pm.  Please make sure you have a ride home after the games.

 

 

  • Boys Basketball:

·          Any young man in 6th, 7th and 8th grade who is interested in trying out for the 6th grade team or the 7th/8th grade team MUST have their current physical, completed Champaign Unit 4 form and

Copy of their insurance/medical card turned in to Ms. Borchardt by Fri., Sept. 28

·          Fliers for 7th/8th grade tryouts will be on the athletic bulletin board tomorrow.

·         Check out the fliers around the building for dates/times

·          Track will be offered to our 8th grade class first then depending on numbers we may open it our 7th graders.

·         any 8th grader interested in joining the track team MUST have their current physical, completed Champaign Unit 4 form and Copy of their insurance/medical card turned in to Ms. Borchardt by Fri., Oct. 12

·         8th graders who have all their required paperwork turned in can sign up on Mon., Oct. 15

 

  • Required Paperwork to Participate: Don't get caught without your required athletic paperwork turned in.  Ms. Borchardt will place a list outside the cafeteria and room 122 for all Edison students to check on the status of their paperwork.  If you have turned in any paperwork your name will be on the list.Look for you name.  If the word YES is next to your name you have all the required paperwork turned in. If your name has NO next to it you will need to see Ms. Borchardt because you are missing some of the required paperwork. If your name is not on the list then you have not turned in any paperwork which means you can not tryout for any upcoming teams at this time.  If you are in 6th grade wanting to tryout for basketball, volleyball or wrestling PLEASE check the list.  If you turned in a physical at registration Ms. Borchardt may not have a copy so please check with Ms. Borchardt as soon as possible.

  • CUSF ADULT Extreme Spelling Bee: On November 3, 2012, the Champaign Urbana Schools Foundation will hold the first annual Adult Team Extreme Spelling Bee Tournament at 6:30 p.m. at the Champaign Country Club, 1211 S. Prospect Avenue.  Distinguished judges will preside over a diabolical selection of words while teams of three compete in 5-team swarms, all vying for the opportunity to compete in the championship buzz off.  Attached is the registration form.
