• Calendar of Events: Edison PTSA will be selling their calendar of events on September 12^th (during Meet the Teacher Night) This is a fundraiser for the PTSA and the calendar includes all the important dates throughout the school year. Calenars are $15. If you ordered one at school registration we will be distributing them at the PTSA table. We only have 20 left so if you want to make sure you get one e-mail apatton2@gmail.com to reserve your copy.

 

• Edison Spirit Wear: Friday, Aug. 31st is the deadline for ordering spirit wear.  This order will be added to orders taken at registration and delivered at school to your student in the next few weeks.  If you miss this Friday's deadline, one more spirit wear order will be taken prior to winter break.  The order form is attached.  Contact Jo Lynne Clauson with any questions at joclauson@comcast.net.

 

• PE Clothes: All students are expected to dress for PE class. Children need to wear a white shirt with the student's name on the front and short/sweatpants and gym shoes. The pants may be any athletic sweatpants/shorts appropriate for school. Jeans, cargo pants, pajama pants will not be allowed for Physical Education class.  An order form for an Edison gym shirt went home with the student's on Friday. If your child would like an Edison Comet PE shirt, they can return the form and money to their PE teacher by Friday, August 31. Checks can be made to Edison Middle School. Otherwise, a plain white t-shirt with their name written on it will be acceptable. Any questions, please email Kay Wells at wellskay@champaignschools.org    

• Home Access Center: The online Home Access Center is up and running. Parents should have received info for login and password. The Home Access Center allows parents/guardians to check their student's grades and assignments.

• Edison Golf "Fore" the Band Golf Outing: The Edison Middle School Band will host a golf outing on Sunday, September 16th at the University of Illinois golf course. Cost is $75 per golfer and includes cart and green fees, lunch, and prizes. Hole sponsors are $100 each. Shotgun start at 1pm. Come out for a fun afternoon of golf and support the band program at the same time! Contact Jo Lynne Clauson with any questions at joclauson@comcast.net.

 

• Poms Squad Tryouts: Edison Poms Squad Tryouts (Dance / Cheer Team) All 6th, 7th, 8th Grade Edison students are welcome to tryout. • Student Council: Student Council will be meeting next week.  Everyone is welcome to join Student Council.  We would like an equal representation of 6th, 7th, and 8th graders.  We will be discussing activites for the year, elections for student officers, and upcoming Open House. Dear Edison Middle School Parents/Guardians,

 

 

I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of our Edison Middle School families! I look forward to a challenging and successful year and am excited to continue my role as the Principal at Edison.  To all of our new families, I look forward to the amazing opportunity of working with you and your children. To all of our returning families, I thank you for your continued support of the programs taking place at Edison Middle School. Your continued support allows for our teachers and staff to meet the needs of our students year after year. I am a firm believer that being visible and accessible is important in the role of a school administrator, and one of my goals for the year is to build relationships with each student and his/her family.

"What would you like to be when you grow up?  Would you like to be a nurse, a professional athlete, a scientist or an astronaut?"   My reply was always, "No, I would like to be a teacher like my Mom and Dad!"  Becoming a teacher and then an administrator is one of my greatest achievements!  My journey in education began when I was an infant.  A classroom and a gymnasium became my second home.  An Assistant basketball coaching position at the University of Illinois brought my family to Champaign.  While in Champaign, I attended Champaign Central High School.  My memories as a student in Champaign Unit #4 are very special.  Champaign Unit #4 provided me with exceptional teachers, a warm and caring classroom environment, and great friends. 

 

I have taught and continue to work with some of the finest educators in the country.  They are a group of individuals that are very knowledgeable in their fields, cooperative, competitive, innovative, and teach their students not only reading, writing and math, but real life lessons that will help them grow into positive members of society.  I love the students here at Edison Middle School!  I love teaching!  I love being the Associate Principal at such a fine school!  It is rewarding, exciting, challenging and I am enthusiastic about having the opportunity to work with your child.  I wish them much success and growth this year at Edison Middle School!  I hope their memories and history will be positive and just as rewarding as my experience has been!

I hope that your summer has been filled with fun family activities enjoyed at a leisurely pace under beautiful, blue skies filled with sunshine.  It is amazing how quickly summer concludes and our thoughts turn to eagerly preparing for the commencement of another school year.  This is always an exciting time of the year! As the Assistant Principal, I am looking forward to meeting all of you and forming strong and positive partnerships.

 

To our students, I ask that you reflect on your goals and strive not only to pursue personal excellence, but also to demonstrate your perseverance and integrity. Know that I am here to support and encourage you as you explore different possibilities and grow as learners. • Transition Day Friday, August 17th is Transition Day for 6^th graders and new 7^th and 8^th graders only.  6^th Grade Transition is  8-10:30am. New 7^th and 8^th graders Transition will be from 8-9am There will be an optional parent meeting from 8-8:30am. You will be able to tour Edison and meet the administration. This is for new students to Edison only! There will be no bus service so parents/guardians will have to arrange for transportation.

 

• First Day of School: The first day of school is Wednesday, August 22^nd.

 

• Poms Squad Tryouts: Edison Poms Squad Tryouts (Dance / Cheer Team) All 6th, 7th, 8th Grade Edison students are welcome to tryout. Wear comfortable exercise clothes and shoes and show up to ALL 3 tryout days (required). • Many Updates for Edison over the Summer: Exciting news for Edison students and parents, this summer Edison had air conditioning added to classrooms, the auditorium, cafeteria, and gymnasium. New sensor lights (energy efficient) have been added as well.
