·         8th Grade Girls Basketball: Our 8th grade Lady Comets will begin their regional play tonight at 6:45 p.m. at Mattoon.  They will be playing Effingham. Go Comets!

 

·         Computer Club: Computer Club will meet today from 2:45-3:30 p.m.

 

·         Creative Writing Club: Creative Writing Club will meet tomorrow (December 1) from 2:45-4:00 p.m. in room 246.

COMMUNITY ACTIVITY

·         Key Communicator Network Meeting: The Unit 4 School District is having a Key Communicator Network meeting on Monday, December 7 at 6:30 pm at Stratton Elementary.  These meetings are open to the public.  If there are topics you would like to have addressed contact Beth Shepperd at sheppebe@champaignschools.org.  She will be sure to have the appropriate administrator respond.  For more information, go to http://www.champaignschools.org/kcn.html

·         7th Grade Girls Basketball:  Congratulations to our 7th grade Lady Comets as they completed their season on Saturday, November 21.  Our 7th grade Lady Comets had a great season. We can’t wait to watch them play next year as 8th graders.  Thanks to Coach Koller and Ms. Washington for leading the girls to a successful season.

·         Volleyball Tryouts:  Tryouts for volleyball begin next week. Tryout information is below, but please notice there are two schedules.  Currently Edison’s 8th grade Lady Comets basketball team is still playing so tryouts will follow the top schedule.  The outcome of the GBB game on Monday will determine the tryout schedule for the rest of the week. Please ask your student to listen to announcements as to whether the 8th grade Girl’s Basketball (8GBB) team is still playing or not.  We will also include the information in Edison PTSA Announcements.

·         Edison Spirit Wear: The final order of Edison Spirit Wear will be distributed tomorrow, November 24th during all 3 lunch periods.  You can still purchase the following overstock:

o   Hoodies($25)- 1 youth large and 1 adult small

o   Short sleeved T's ($10)- 3 adult small and 5 adult large

o   Long sleeved T ($15)- 1 adult large

o   Sweats ($20) - 1 adult large and 1 adult x-large

      These items may be purchased during lunches on Tuesday (checks only) or contact joclauson@comcast.net or jacquie.pound@att.net to make arrangements for purchase.

·         AVID Breakfast: Edison AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) students and their families  are invited to join their AVID teachers, counselor, and administrators for breakfast this Friday, November 20, from 7:00-7:50 a.m. in the Edison library. This is an opportunity to celebrate  the students’ first quarter successes while getting to know the members of the AVID team as well as other AVID students and families.

 

·         NSBE Jr.: NSBE Jr. will hold its first meeting on Wednesday, November 18 in room 324 (Mr. Kuppler’s room) from 2:45-4:15 p.m.  Be prepared to be amazed by the members of the National Society of Black Engineers! A small snack will be provided.  Parent permission is required and though this session is full, students may join a waiting list by filling out the NSBE Jr. file attached to this announcement.  It can be turned into Mrs. Mastny in the Comets Community Center.

 

·         Student Council Meeting: Student Council will meet today from 2:45-3:30 p.m. in Mrs. Altenbaumer’s room, 234.

·         Cross Country: Cross country athletes will be recognized tonight at their banquet that starts at 5:30 p.m. at Stone Creek Church in Urbana. Please remember that families of 6th graders should bring salads/side dishes , 7th graders bring desserts, and 8th graders bring drinks. All uniforms need to be turned in at the banquet.

 

·         Creative Writing Club: Creative Writing Club will meet tomorrow and on the following Tuesdays from 2:45-4:00 p.m. in room 246:

·         Student Council Meeting: Student Council will meet Wednesday, November 18 from 2:45-3:30 p.m. in Mrs. Altenbaumer’s room, 234.

 

·         Fall Chess Fest: All Middle School children are invited to participate in the Fall Chess Fest to be held on Sunday, November 22nd at Jefferson Middle School.  Check in time is noon and games will begin at 12:30 p.m. Participation is free.  Please see the attached flyer for more information. ·         Picture Retake Day: If your child needs to retake their school picture, Picture Retake Day is this Friday, November 13. Please have your student bring the original picture packet with a note that explains why the picture needs to be retaken.  If the student was absent or is new to the school, an order form needs to be filled out. The Web site is managed by a non-profit organization that pairs classroom needs with donors who can support them. A number of Edison teachers have projects listed. Go to the Website and search Illinois, then Champaign, and Unit 4 if you want to specifically support Unit 4 schools. Currently there are 22 project requests from teachers in Champaign.
