Dear Parents, Guardians, and Friends:
The 2009-2010 school year has begun and I would like to extend a warm welcome to all returning and new members of our Edison family. It’s been a pleasure serving you for the past year, and I look forward to the ongoing development of programs that support our students’ academic, social, and emotional development in a safe, secure, and innovative environment. Our faculty and staff are committed to serving the community, and it’s wonderful to know we have your support.
I would like to congratulate the members of our faculty and staff who have welcomed beautiful babies to their families. I would also like to welcome our new faculty and staff members. Also new to Edison is an updated school logo, which will be unveiled during our second convocation day. Students love the new look and appear to be enthusiastic to start another successful year. As always, we invite you to visit our campus, and to share your ideas for enhancing the middle school experience of all Edison Comets!

Greetings to our wonderful Edison Middle School family of parents/guardians and students. It is with a sincere welcome back, that I extend to each and every one of you! I am so looking forward to getting to know our incoming sixth graders, challenging our 7th graders to bigger and better things and to our Eighth graders, I will be counting on their support to be the best leaders of our building that they can be! Hello everyone. My name is Justin Uppinghouse and I am the new Assistant Principal at Edison Middle School. I am very excited to begin the 2009-2010 school year in my new position, and look forward to meeting all of you as the year progresses. · Edison Baseball: The Edison baseball team played its first game on Saturday, Aug. 15 against Franklin. Varsity won 6 – 2 and JV lost 6 – 5. Go Comets! See their pictures online: http://www.borderlittleleague.com/edison/EdisonBaseball09.htm
· Edison Cross Country: Congratulations to all of Edison’s returning runners! They looked great in their first race on Saturday, August 22. Six students won medals. This week, new runners will race in Danville on Thursday, August 27. Then on Saturday, August 29, Edison will host a race at Robeson Park in Champaign. Come out and cheer on our Comets!
· Box Tops for Band: Meijer is hosting a promotion on Box Tops starting today, 8/23 through 9/2. If you buy any 8 Box Top Products in a single visit, you will receive 50 bonus Box Tops ($5) at the checkout. If you buy any 12 participating products you will receive 100 bonus Box Tops ($10) as a coupon at the checkout. A copy of the participating products is attached. These coupons can be turned in with regular Box Tops in the big Box Top box in the band room.
· Edison PTSA Needs You: Consider getting involved with the Edison PTSA! You'll be more informed with the events, programs, and happenings at our school. We meet once each month at the school, usually in the Edison library. Our next meeting is Tuesday, September 8 at 7 p.m. Come at 6:45 p.m. for refreshments and to get acquainted.
