Edison's Mission

Jackets:  If you are interested in purchasing an Edison jacket Ms. Borchardt will be taking orders for another round of jackets.  All jackets are $33. Order form is attached - please bring order and payment to Ms. Borchardt (not the office) in room 122.

Schedules: Attached are schedules for Girls Basketball and Boys Basketball.  Changes have been made to both schedules.

2015 - 2016 baseball info:

If your son or daughter is currently in 6th or 7th grade please mark your calendars for the following dates:

 

Tryouts will be Monday, Aug. 3 and Tuesday, Aug. 4 - please plan your vacations around these dates as everyone who wants to tryout must attend both days of tryouts.  Practices will be Wed., Aug. 5 through Fri., Aug. 7 then Mon., Aug. 10 through Aug. 14.  The season will begin on Sat., Aug. 15.

Wednesday, Oct. 22: GBB at South View, 4:15 pm (players to be dismissed from class at 2:15 pm)

Parent-Player meeting for selected boys basketball team, 5:30 pm in cafeteria

Thursday, Oct. 23: No school; Parent - Teacher Conferences from 4 until 8 pm 

Friday, Oct. 24: No school; Parent - Teacher Conferences from 8 until 11 am

Monday, Oct. 27: GBB versus North Ridge, 4:15 pm

Tuesday, Oct. 28: GBB at Rantoul, 5pm

Teacher Appreciation: Please help us provide dinner for our teachers and staff by sending a side dish, salad, or dessert to school by 2:30 pm on Thursday October 23.  Teachers will have dinner before conferences that night, from 4-8 pm. We will also accept cash donations to offset costs of plates, napkins, drinks, etc.  Cash donations can be brought to the food drop-off at 2:30 pm on Oct 23.  Thank you for your help!


No School: there will be no school on Thursday October 23 and Friday October 24, due to parent/teacher conferences.


Band Disney Trip Meeting: Tuesday, October 28th at 7 pm there will be an informational meeting in the Edison auditorium.  The meeting should last no more than an hour.  We will pass along as much information as we can provide to you and discuss the next steps going forward as far as preparation is concerned leading up to mid-March.  Information about the first installments will also be provided.

 

Candy Grams: Student Council will be selling Candy Grams for Halloween the week of Oct 27-30 for 50 cents each.  Send a note to a friend and we will deliver it with candy.  They will be delivered on Friday Oct 31.  Contact a Student Council member to purchase. 

 

College Gear Fridays: Students, wear your Avid or college gear on Friday.  Every Friday!

 

Mini-Grants: The Edison PTSA Academic Fund supports special projects that cannot be funded with allocated classroom budgets. Mini-grants of up to $100 each are available to any Edison Middle School faculty or staff member.  Attached is the application form, which is due by Friday November 14.  You can complete the application and send via email to kimcollins@yahoo.com or print the form and leave in the PTSA mailbox.  For questions, please contact Kim Collins at the email address above.

The Book Fair will run in the library all of this week: October 20-24 - and will be open school hours M-W as well as Thursday evening and Friday morning during conferences. Adult Team Spelling Bee: The CU Schools Foundation will hold the 3rd annual Adult Team Spelling Bee on Saturday, November 8 at 6 pm.  The winning team chooses which school will receive $1,000 in product from Litania Sports Group.  Register your team of 3 adults by this Friday, October 24 at http://cuschoolsfoundation.org/spellingbee/

Fruit Sale Fundraiser for Central's Bands and Choirs: Get in touch with a Central HS band or choir student to purchase delicious grove-fresh Florida navel oranges and red grapefruit as well as locally grown Curtis Orchard apples for our Central Music Boosters Fall Fruit Sale.  You can also purchase fruit on-line at http://www.maroons.org/fruit.  The sale runs through Nov. 12 with fruit being delivered Dec. 5.  This is a great way to support the fantastic music program at Central High School.

 

Attention Haunted House lovers! Come to Centennial Interact Club's "Haunted High" on Sunday, October 26th from 4:30-8:00!! Admission is $5 or a pair of used shoes to get in free! 4:30-5:00 is a less scary time for little kids and 5:00-8:00 is the really scary time! The theme this year is "Apocalypse." If you dare, enter through the student entrance at the north end of Centennial.


Reflections: Get Out Your Creativity And Submit your Expressions!! National PTA sponsors an annual themed arts competition, wherein students submit their artistic creations for review. PTA Reflections theme this year is "The World would be a better Place if. . ."  Categories are Dance Choreography, Photography, Literature, Visual Arts, Film Production, and Music Composition.  You can find rules for each category here http://www.illinoispta.org/reflections.html.

Print out a submission form http://www.illinoispta.org/pdf/Student%20Entry%20Form%209-16-14.pdf, attach it to your creative expression, and bring it to school.  Deadline for entries is November 5.

Spirit Wear: if you ordered Spirit Wear on registration day or before the early September deadline and have not picked up your order, please stop by the school office to retrieve it (or send your student).  If you'd like to place an order for Spirit Wear, please print an attached order form (there are two forms: one for the 'bling' shirts and one for 'regular' apparel) and send to school with payment, addressed to "Edison PTSA."  Deadline for this *final chance to order* is November 1.


Building CouncilWhat do we do? We don't discuss district issues, personnel or curricular matters, or discipline problems, but we do brainstorm ways to improve and enrich our school environment, and make things run more smoothly for Edison students and staff.  We would like to recruit more parents to building council meetings.  Consider attending a meeting (held in Mrs. Borchardt's room):

November 13 - 7am – 7:45am 

December 11 - 3 – 4pm 

January 8 – 3 – 4pm 

February 12 – 7am – 7:45am 

March 12 – 3-4pm 

April 9 – 3 – 4pm 

May 7 – 3 - 4pm 


Spring Musical: plans for the Spring Musical are underway, but your help is needed.  Organizers are collecting memories of Edison from the past 100 years; please spread the word and send stories to Mrs. Welty Peachey at weltyan@champaignschools.org.


Social Probation: Please talk to your students about social probation, which is exclusion from participation in and/or attendance at an extracurricular school-sanctioned activity like ball games, concerts and dances.  A student will be placed on social probation if/when:

•He/she has not served the assigned detentions minutes

•He/she is failing one or more classes

•Administration places him/her on social probation.​


County Market Max Dollars for Education: if you're a County Market shopper and wish to designate Edison as your Max card school, sign up at www.myCountyMarket.com or at the customer service desk at any store.  Our school code is 14088.

 

The Edison Choir meets in the Rm. 110 from 2:50 - 4:00 pm on Tuesdays and until 4:30 on Thursdays.  Everyone is welcome; come out to enjoy singing together and bring a friend! 

Student Council meets in Mrs. Altenbaumer's room, 234 from 2:45-3:30. We meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month.   All students are welcome to join.   If you missed the first meeting, talk to Mrs. Altenbaumer or Mr. Freeman, our two Co-Sponsors.  You can join anytime during the year.   Come make a difference in your school.
