  • Thursday and Friday: Thursday, Oct 27th School Improvement Day/Parent Teacher Conferences, Students Attend a.m. only. Friday, Oct 28 Parent-Teacher Conferences, No School.

 

  • Picture Re-take Day: The date is Friday, November 4, 2011 at 8:00am.  There are order forms in the main office for students who have not had their picture taken yet.  For students who need a picture re-take, the student needs to bring their old picture package with them and give it to the photographer.  

 

  • Future Freshmen Night: Attached is a flyer for 8th grade students/families inviting them to attend Future Freshman Night on January 11th.  Event is held at Centennial High School in Aldridge Auditorium from 7-8:30 pm

 

October 25

 

  • Reflections Deadline Extended: National PTA Reflections Program: NEW DEADLINE IS NOVEMBER 15th. The Reflections program encourages students to explore their artistic talents inspired by a specific theme.  This years Reflections theme is  "Diversity Means." Visit the following web-site for entry forms and participation rules.  http://www.ptareflections.org/cs/about_reflections  All entries must be completed by 3:30pm, November 15th.  If you have any questions, please contact Karen Easton at <eastonka@champaignschools.org>

 

  • Chess Fest: This Fall's ChessFest will be held on Sunday November 6th at Jefferson.  Attached are a flyer and entry form. We hope to see you on the 6th.

 

  • Book Fair: Edison's Fall Book Fair will begin this Friday, October 21st and will run through Friday, October 28th. The book fair will be open during school hours as well as during Parent Teacher Conferences on Thursday, October 27th from 4-8 PM and Friday, October 28th from 8-11 AM.  All students will be coming to the book fair with their reading classes and will have a chance to purchase items if they wish to. Remember, you can also purchase books or gift certificates for any teachers to add to their classroom libraries.  We accept cash, checks or credit cards. See you at the Fair!

  • Food Drive: Edison Middle School is once again supporting the Eastern Illinois Foodbank's efforts to keep families fed by encouraging students and their families to donate food items such as canned goods, peanut butter, soup, and boxed meals. Donation boxes are located in Mr. Freeman's room for Voyagers, Mr. Cain's room for Adventurers, Mrs. Witheft's room for Constellations, Ms. Whitfield's room for Galaxies, Mr. Becker's room for Navigators, and Mr. Guzman's for Explorers.  The food drive starts today, Monday, October 17th and ends Thursday, October 27th.  Student Council is sponsoring this event.

Volleyball and Wrestling Info

 

Anyone interested in trying out for wrestling or volleyball must have the required paperwork turned in to Ms. Borchardt by Thurs., Nov. 10.  The required paperwork includes:

1.        Current physical

2.       Completed Champaign Unit 4 form

3.       Copy of insurance card/medical card

Please see Ms. Borchardt (room 122) if you are not sure if you have the required paperwork turned in.

 

 

Wrestling and volleyball tryouts will begin on Monday, Nov. 28

 

6th grade girls can try out for the 7th grade IESA volleyball team.   Coach Taylor can keep 0, 1, 2,3, 4 or 5 of the sixth graders who tryout. 

 

Wrestling includes 6th, 7th and 8th graders from Edison, Jefferson and Franklin. 

 

 

  • Hands Off Event Volunteers: We need parent volunteers to help with the Edison Hands Off event on November 4th. This is to reward students with no discipline referrals. Action Inflatables will be at the school with different inflatables for the students to play on. We need parents to help monitor students. Please e-mail< howardto@champaignschools.org> if you are able to help in any way. Time of the event is 12:40-3pm. Parents can volunteer for shifts or for the entire event.


  • Parent/Teacher Conferences: Parent teacher conferences are on October 27th and 28th. Teachers have or will be sending home slips to schedule times.


  • Lots of Ways to Earn Money for Edison:  At County Market You can sign up for OR register your current County Market Max Card for Education to Edison Middle School, the number is #331. Remember even if you have already registered this needs to be updated annually.

 

Target has a similar reward program called Take Charge for Education. Simply apply for a Target charge (Red Card)/debit card, get approved, and Target donates 1% of your Red Card/Target Debit card purchases to your school. Here is the link for more info and to apply http://sites.target.com/site/en/corporate/page.jsp?contentId=PRD03-005157 If you already have a Target charge/debit you can still earn money for Edison. With holiday shopping coming up this is a great and EASY way to help Edison Middle School!

 

Schnucks has a similar program. Sign up for an e-scrip card or use current one and you can help Edison earn money. This does not interfere with their gas rewards program.


  • Edison Spirit Wear  If you missed your chance to order Edison Spirit wear at registration, the final order for the school year will be taken from now until Nov 18th, order form is attached. These are the red tees and hoodies and gray sweats. Simply submit your order form along with payment in an envelope marked "spirit wear" to the office.  The apparel will be ready early in December and will be distributed to your student, so be sure to indicate student name and grade level.  If you have any questions, contact Jo Lynne Clauson at joclauson@comcast.net

 

  • PE Clothing: Parents you can still order PE clothes for your student. Attached is the order form. Submit your order form along with payment in an envelope marked PE Clothes to the office.

  • Food Drive: Edison Middle School is once again supporting the Eastern Illinois Foodbank's efforts to keep families fed by encouraging students and their families to donate food items such as canned goods, peanut butter, soup, and boxed meals. Donation boxes are located in Mr. Freeman's room for Voyagers, Mr. Cain's room for Adventurers, Mrs. Witheft's room for Constellations, Ms. Whitfield's room for Galaxies, Mr. Becker's room for Navigators, and Mr. Guzman's for Explorers.  The food drive starts today, Monday, October 17th and ends Thursday, October 27th.  Student Council is sponsoring this event.

  • Congrats to Edison Band: Thanks to Edison's 8th grade band for putting on a fantastic children's concert last night. Great job to those who made it happen.
