Edison's Mission

It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.

Family Literacy Night: all Edison families are invited to school *tonight*, 6:00-7:30 pm.  Family Literacy Night is a celebration of reading and writing hosted by the Edison ELA department.  Families can come and choose three out of several exciting sessions (Poetry Coffeehouse, AVID Socratic Seminar, Celebrity Read Aloud, Games, Crafts, and Creating with Technology).  We're excited to have the Ripchords, members of Edison's Jazz Band, and U of I athletes participating!  Come for fun, food, prizes, and LITERACY!!!!

Food Drive: Nov 17-Dec 2, Edison will be collecting nonperishable foods for the food drive.  We are competing against other schools within the Champaign area.  To make this a little more fun, we are also having a competition between the teams; student teams will be considered based on homeroom.  Each team will have a box to place the nonperishable foods in and a canister for any monetary donations.

The Middle School Choir Festival is this Thursday, Nov. 20th (tonight!) at Franklin Middle School at 7 pm.  All three school choirs will perform, and then will perform a piece together as a festival choir.  Anyone is welcome and admission is free.

The 34th Annual Central High School Madrigal Dinner will be presented on Saturday and Sunday, December 13th and 14th at 5:00 p.m. in the Central Cafeteria. A Madrigal dinner is a 21st century reenactment of a baronial feast from the European Renaissance. This family friendly event is a beloved Central High School tradition!  Guests with reservations are treated to a multiple course dinner and are entertained by over 50 of Central's student musicians. Tickets are 25$ per adult and 10$ for children.   Reservations are now being accepted online at hhtp://maroons.org/madrigals/, email @ Massey.karen@hotmail.com or phone by calling Karen Massey at 27-649-9791.  Guest not wishing to make dinner reservations may come for the concert only.

College Gear Fridays: Students, wear your Avid or college gear on Friday.  Every Friday!

Building CouncilWhat do we do? We don't discuss district issues, personnel or curricular matters, or discipline problems, but we do brainstorm ways to improve and enrich our school environment, and make things run more smoothly for Edison students and staff.  We would like to recruit more parents to building council meetings.  Consider attending a meeting (held in Mrs. Borchardt's room):

December 11 - 3 – 4pm

January 8 – 3 – 4pm

February 12 – 7am – 7:45am

March 12 – 3-4pm

April 9 – 3 – 4pm

May 7 – 3 - 4pm

Spring Musical: plans for the Spring Musical are underway, but your help is needed.  Organizers are collecting memories of Edison from the past 100 years; please spread the word and send stories to Mrs. Welty Peachey at weltyan@champaignschools.org.

Social Probation: Please talk to your students about social probation, which is exclusion from participation in and/or attendance at an extracurricular school-sanctioned activity like ball games, concerts and dances.  A student will be placed on social probation if/when:

•He/she has not served the assigned detentions minutes

•He/she is failing one or more classes

•Administration places him/her on social probation.

County Market Max Dollars for Education: if you're a County Market shopper and wish to designate Edison as your Max card school, sign up at www.myCountyMarket.com or at the customer service desk at any store.  Our school code is 14088.

The Edison Choir meets in the Rm. 110 from 2:50 - 4:00 pm on Tuesdays and until 4:30 on Thursdays.  Everyone is welcome; come out to enjoy singing together and bring a friend!

Student Council meets in Mrs. Altenbaumer's room, 234 from 2:45-3:30. We meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month.   All students are welcome to join.   If you missed the first meeting, talk to Mrs. Altenbaumer or Mr. Freeman, our two Co-Sponsors.  You can join anytime during the year.   Come make a difference in your school.
