Dismissal Time: Today is a half day for students because of P/T conferences. Dismissal time is at 11:10am. There is no school Friday March 21st. Spring Break is March 24-28th

 

5 Essentials Survey: The district is asking parents to take a quick survey. Please click on the link to take the survey. This is important and only takes a few minutes!

Not Too Late: It’s not too late to volunteer to bring in a dessert for teacher appreciation today at 3pm. Desserts should be brought to cafeteria. Please e-mail apatton2@gmail.com if you can donate.

8th Grade Calendar of Events: There are a lot of end of the year events for 8th grade students. Attached is a calendar of events. Please look over there’s a lot coming up!

 

Teacher Appreciation: We will be feeding teachers during parent teacher conferences with a taco bar on Thursday March 20th from 3:30-5:30pm. We are asking parents to donate dessert items. Please drop off items on Thursday at 3:30pm. If you are able to donate please e-mail apatton2@gmail.com

 

8th Grade Graduation: 8th grade graduation is May 30th at 9 am in the Edison auditorium. Because of the limited amount of seating space tickets are limited to 2 PER STUDENT. You must have a ticket to attend the ceremony. If you will need extra tickets please e-mail Ms. Lanman  lanmanan@champaignschools.

 

Dyslexia Movie: There will be a free movie on March 31st at 6:30 at the Douglas Branch Library.This free showing of “Journey into Dyslexia” was made possible through the joint efforts of area Rotarians, LEAP (Linking Educators and Parents) and the Douglas Branch Library. International Day, March 20th.  Volunteers are needed for Edison's International Day celebration on March 20th.  This is a wonderful morning of peformances and workshops focused on global cultures.  Please reply to Mary Biddle (biddlemar@champaignschools.org) if you're available for part or all of the morning between 8:00-11:00 for any of the following tasks:

    Escort community members from the main office to the room where they're presenting. 

    Supervise student exhibits in the north gym

    Set up tables Wednesday afternoon, March 19

    Take down tables from student exhibits, 11:00 March 20

    Assist students learning a craft

 

 

Yearbook: Did you order a school yearbook for your child? *Orders were not taken at registration this year. The cost is $25. Orders are due to Ms. Lanman by March 14, 2014. If the order form sent home last month was lost, please include a note with your child's: name, Homeroom teacher, grade level. Make checks payable to Edison Middle School.

Trade Up: Attached is the registration form for the Trade-Up 2014 hands-on learning event to be held at the Parkhill Applied Technology Center at Parkland College.  This event will take place on Tuesday, April 29 for interested middle school/junior high students (grades 6-8).  Trade-Up 2014 will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 2:00 p.m.  Lunch will be provided.  Due to the hands-on nature of the event, each school will be limited to 18 students. Please read the information sheet, fill out the attached form and return it to the EFE office by Friday, March 28 via e-mail (nelder@efe.k12.il.us) or fax (217-355-1396).  If you have any questions regarding this event, please contact me.

Edison Community Blood Drive: Edison Middle School will be hosting a Community Blood Drive on Tuesday, March 18 from 12:30 to 5:30 in the South Gym.  Anyone interested in donating blood please contact Mr. Cain at cainza@champaignschools.org or at 351-3771.  We have appointment slots available every 15 minutes.  Last year we had 27 individuals donate blood, but we would really like to beat that number this year!

Opening Night: Tonight is opening night for the Spring Musical, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Come out and see Edison's young actors at 7pm in the Edison auditorium. Tickets will be sold at the door. $5 for adults. $3 for middle school students or younger.

Edison Musical This Week: Performances are Thursday, March 13 at 7 pm, Saturday March 15 at 7 pm and Sunday, March 16 at 3 pm.  Tickets are available for $5 per adult and $3 for students middle school and under.  You can get tickets from any cast member or at the door the night of the show.  Edison staff will be admitted free of charge.  Come out and and see our talented student actors and singers!

 

Edison's Science Olympiad Team won first place at the Regionals held at Parkland College on March 8.  By winning the Regional contest our team was invited to compete at the upcoming State competition held in April at the University of Illinois. Every member of the team won at least one medal in a science or engineering event at Regionals. This is the third year in a row that Edison is advancing to State.

This year's talented team includes:

E. Jackson , M. Kim, J. Lee,

A. Mattson, P. Oliviera, C. Patton,

D.Popat, L. Roadcap, G.Talavera,

M. Tang, and Y. Shin.

Movie: On Tuesday, March 11th we are going to Savoy 16 to see Mr. Peabody and Sherman.  Below is a short synopsis of the movie. 

 

(Mr. Peabody (voiced by Ty Burrell) is a business titan, inventor, scientist, Nobel Laureate, gourmand, two-time Olympic medalist, and genius… who also happens to be a dog. Using his most ingenious invention, the WABAC machine, Mr. Peabody and his adopted boy Sherman (Max Charles) hurtle back in time to experience world-changing events first-hand and interact with some of the greatest characters of all time. But when Sherman breaks the rules of time travel, our two heroes find themselves in a race to repair history and save the future, while Mr. Peabody may face his biggest challenge yet – being a parent.)

 

Ticket price for all students/adults: $7.00 (if parents would like to send $10 we will use the additional $3 for scholarships)  NO CHECKS

 

Snack tray price:  $3.51 (students bring snack money the day of the movie) Permits are being sent home today if a student is absent but it is excused they are welcome to join us (this includes illness, doctor appt, orthodontist appt, etc)

(Mr. Peabody (voiced by Ty Burrell) is a business titan, inventor, scientist, Nobel Laureate, gourmand, two-time Olympic medalist, and genius… who also happens to be a dog. Using his most ingenious invention, the WABAC machine, Mr. Peabody and his adopted boy Sherman (Max Charles) hurtle back in time to experience world-changing events first-hand and interact with some of the greatest characters of all time. But when Sherman breaks the rules of time travel, our two heroes find themselves in a race to repair history and save the future, while Mr. Peabody may face his biggest challenge yet – being a parent.)

 

Ticket price for all students/adults: $7.00 (if parents would like to send $10 we will use the additional $3 for scholarships)  NO CHECKS

 

Snack tray price:  $3.51 (students bring snack money the day of the movie) Permits are being sent home today if a student is absent but it is excused they are welcome to join us (this includes illness, doctor appt, orthodontist appt, etc)

Spring Musical: Edison Middle School is proud to present "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory", a wonderful story of adventures with Willy Wonka and his amazing chocolate factory.  Performances are Thursday, March 13 at 7 pm, Saturday March 15 at 7 pm and Sunday, March 16 at 3 pm.  Tickets are available for $5 per adult and $3 for students middle school and under.  You can get tickets from any cast member or at the door the night of the show.  Edison staff will be admitted free of charge.  Come out and and see our talented student actors and singers!

Edison Community Blood Drive: Edison Middle School will be hosting a Community Blood Drive on Tuesday, March 18 from 12:30 to 5:30 in the South Gym.  Anyone interested in donating blood please contact Mr. Cain at cainza@champaignschools.org or at 351-3771.  We have appointment slots available every 15 minutes.  Last year we had 27 individuals donate blood, but we would really like to beat that number this year!

Yearbook: Did you order a school yearbook for your child? *Orders were not taken at registration this year. The cost is $25. Orders are due to Ms. Lanman by March 14, 2014. If the order form sent home last month was lost, please include a note with your child's: name, Homeroom teacher, grade level. Make checks payable to Edison Middle School.

Trade Up: Attached is the registration form for the Trade-Up 2014 hands-on learning event to be held at the Parkhill Applied Technology Center at Parkland College.  This event will take place on Tuesday, April 29 for interested middle school/junior high students (grades 6-8).  Trade-Up 2014 will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 2:00 p.m.  Lunch will be provided.  Due to the hands-on nature of the event, each school will be limited to 18 students. Please read the information sheet, fill out the attached form and return it to the EFE office by Friday, March 28 via e-mail (nelder@efe.k12.il.us) or fax (217-355-1396).  If you have any questions regarding this event, please contact me.
