September 15


  • Science Olympiad: Students interested in Science Olympiad should attend an short meeting immediately after school on Thursday Sept. 15 in room 348. Science Olympiad is open to 6-8th grade students with a serious interest in science and technology.  We will be handing out applications and explaining the program.  A fifteen person team will be formed and will compete against other middle schools in the area.  The meeting should be done by 3:30. (Coach Kevin Kuppler)

 


  • Science Field Trip: Edison's 8th grade science field trip is on September 22 from 8 a.m.-1:10 p.m. and staff would very much appreciate the assistance of 3 adult chaperones.  If you are interested please contact either Linda Robinson (robinsli@champaignschools.org) or Julie Anders-Becker (andersju@champaignschools.org)

 

  • Booker T. Washington Alumni: Calling all alumni of Booker T. Washington Elementary!  You are invited to the dedication and open house at the new Booker T. Washington Stem Academy on Thursday, September 15, 2011.  The dedication will take place at 5:30 PM, with tours and open house to follow from 6:30-8 PM.  Booker T. Washington STEM Academy is located on the site of the historic Booker T. Washington Elementary School at 606 East Grove Street, Champaign.  This event is open to the public and all are welcome to attend.

 

September 14

 

  • School Dance: Permission slips should be going home. Students will need $2 for admission and a signed permission slip to get in. PTSA will be selling concessions and students will have an opportunity to get their picture taken. Parents you may want to arrange an alternate pick up location after the dance to avoid traffic after the dance lets out. Students MUST be picked up by 8pm.

 

  • Morning Traffic: For parents who drop off their student in the morning we need to keep the traffic moving and keep our students safe. Not every car can drop off right in front. We need you to pull forward to keep the line moving. 

 

September 13

 

  • Box Tops: Don't forget to collect and turn in Box Tops for Education and Campbell's soup labels.  They can be turned in to homeroom teachers or Mrs. Jacob.

 


  • Homework Help: Stuck on homework? Come to Homework club 2:50 - 4:00 p.m. with Miss Stanke after school on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Be in room 122 by 2:50 p.m. with ALL materials you will need. You must sign in. You only have to stay until you are done, and only have to come on the days you need help! (parents if you would like to help with this please email me and let me know!!)

 

  • Athletic Events: Below are our athletic events for next week.  Girls basketball begins next week with THREE home games.  Hope you can stop by to cheer the girls on.  We also begin our regional play for Baseball on Tues., Sept. 13.

XC to Kickapoo State Park, 4:00 pm (runners need to be dismissed from class at 2:00 – please do not dismiss them earlier since the Unit 4 buses are having a difficult start to the year they are showing up later than late so our kids have plenty of time to get dressed then meet their coaches)

Sat., Sept. 17

XC to Lake of the Woods, 9:00 am (bus leaves Edison at 7:15 am)

 

 


 

  • BBB Tryouts: Tryouts will begin on Monday, Oct. 17.  Watch for the fliers around school so you will know what time your tryout is. Any 6th, 7th and 8th grade boy interested in trying out the 7th and 8th grade IESA teams must have all their required paperwork (current physical, completed Champaign Unit 4 form and a copy of their insurance card/medical card) turned in to Ms. Borchardt by Friday, Sept. 30. 

 

  • Golf "Fore" the Band: The Edison Band program will be hosting it's 1st ever golf outing on Saturday, September 17th at the U of I golf course.  Shotgun start at 8am, $75 per person includes greens fee and cart, range balls, prizes and lunch.  Hole sponsorships are available at $100 each.  Golf in the morning and watch Illini football in evening! At County Market You can sign up for OR register your current County Market Max Card for Education to Edison Middle School, the number is #331. Remember even if you have already registered this needs to be updated annually. Target has a similar reward program called Take Charge for Education. Simply apply for a Target charge (Red Card)/debit card, get approved, and Target donates 1% of your Red Card/Target Debit card purchases to your school.
