Edison's Mission

It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.

Spirit Wear Ordering: It's time for the LAST Edison Spirit Wear order for this school year.  If you are interested, please send a check made payable to Edison PTSA, along with the completed order form clearly indicating the student's name, grade and contact phone number, in a sealed envelope marked "spirit wear" and have your student drop off in the main office. Orders will be accepted through October 31st and the orders will be placed in early November and distributed to your student at school well before the winter break.  If you wish the order to be a gift, please clearly indicate that on the order form and arrangements will be made to get the order to you rather than your student. Candy Grams: Halloween Candy Grams will be on sale Oct 28th, 29th and 30th at lunch.  Buy a Candygram for a friend, teacher, or other faculty member for 50 cents each.  Return it to Student Council by the end of the day on the 30th.  They will deliver it to the recipient with candy on the 31st.  Make sure you know the homeroom teacher of the person you are sending it to, or it may not get delivered successfully.  Proceeds go towards the 8th grade Dance at the end of the year.

 

 

CUSF Spelling Bee: Want to compete to win PE Equipment for Edison Middle School?  Register your team of three adults to compete in the CU Schools Foundation Adult Team Spelling Bee.  This is not a serious spelling bee--words start at 3rd grade level and get harder from there.  The goal is to have fun, support education and give you an opportunity to win one of these top three prizes for a Unit 4 or District 116 school of your choice: 

    1st place--$2,500 PE equipment provided by Kraft

    2nd place--$1,000 gift certificate provided by Litania Sports Group

    3rd place--$300 gift certificate provided by Polar

There are also prizes for Best Costume, Best Fail and Best Team Spirit.  The Spelling Bee is Saturday, November 9, from 6:30 - 9:00 pm at Urbana Civic Center and will be catered by Hickory Smokehouse.  Register your team online at www.cuschoolsfoundation.org/events/bee.  $150 to register a team.  Deadline to sign up is Oct. 25.

 

 

Edison's Lounge is Up and Running!!!  Parents if you are looking for a safe, supervised place for your children to go after school, the Edison Lounge is the place to be.  "The Lounge" will be open on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:45-4:45pm and offers study spaces, gaming consoles (Nintendo Wii, Sony PS3, Xbox Kinect ), 30 computers with district monitored internet access, access to the Tap-in leadership academy tutors and activities (with a completed application), and space to engage in social activities with friends at Edison.  All students staying after school in the lounge must have a permission slip turned in to one of our Lounge supervisors (Turkessa Bailey, Alan Douglas, Cindy Steward), before participating in activities. (Lounge Permission Slip is attached)

 

Reflections Contest: Believe, Dream, Inspire is the 2013-14 Reflections program theme. Reflections is a program sponsored by the National PTA organization that encourages students to participate in the arts. Reflections competition covers several disciplines in the arts: dance/choreography, film production, literature, music composition, photography, and visual arts. All events are centered around the theme of Believe, Dream, and Inspire. Attached is the student entry form. To submit to the Reflections competition students should turn in completed works to Mrs. Easton by November 6th.


Opportunities to Raise Money for Edison PTSA:  There are openings for October 12th to work at the Memorial Stadium for the Marching Band Competition.  7 adults needed to work 5:30-10:00 pm.  It is expected to be a fast paced event.  For each shift worked $35.00 at Memorial Stadium will go towards Edison Band, Avid, or Edison PTSA. If interested please contact Heather Zike at hlf33@hotmail.com Parking, dress code and any additional information will be provided to those who volunteer.  Thank you for your continued support to our students!!

 

Homework Club: Homework Club is available every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and every 2nd and 4th Monday in Ms. Milani's classroom (142) from 2:45 – 4:00 p.m. Homework Club is open to all students who need help with homework.  Students are not required to stay until 4:00 p.m., they can leave whenever their homework is finished.

Dismissal: Students will be dismissed today at 11:10am. When students are dismissed early, bus service and routes run the same as if it were a regular dismissal time.

Results from State XC meet from Coach Mills:

 

 

Congratulations to our Boys State team for placing 12th in Illinois in 2A teams yesterday at State. We had two boys, N. Brunson(10) and J. Miller (19), place in the top twenty five (which is called Super State) and Brunson was in the top ten. Our top four runners- N. Brunson, J. Miller, D. Giger and W. Shinew, all either set or tied their personal records for the season, and our other three runners, J. Quigley, I. Elsts and T. Wells were within mere seconds of their personal records. So it was an exceptional ending to a great season!

 


Monday, Oct. 21

 

Boys Basketball tryouts for the 7th and 8th grade teams:

          7th grade from 3:00 until  4:30 pm in the north gym (6th graders can attend if they would like to tryout for the 7th grade team - these tryouts ARE NOT for the 6th grade team)

            8th grade from 4:30 until 6:00 pm in the north gym (only 8th graders can tryout for the 8th grade team) anyone wishing to tryout for the boys basketball teams may tryout only if they have all the required paperwork turned in to Ms. Borchardt.  There is a list outside the cafeteria informing the students if they are in good standing or if they have missing paperwork.

 

      all young men trying out for the boys basketball team:

             1.  must be on time

             2.  have appropriate gym shoes (no street shoes)

             3.  have shorts/tshirt

             4.  MUST ATTEND BOTH DAYS OF TRYOUTS

   

Tuesday, Oct. 22

      Boys Basketball tryouts for the 7th and 8th grade teams:

             7th grade from 3:00 until 4:30 pm in the north gym (6th graders can attend if they would like to tryout for the 7th grade team - these tryouts ARE NOT for the 6th grade team)

                8th grade from 4:30 until 6:00 pm in the north gym (only 8th graders can tryout for the 8th grade team)

 

Wednesday, Oct. 23

      GBB game against South View, 4:15 pm in the north gym

 

       Parent/Player Meeting for the selected Boys Basektball Teams, 5:30 pm in the cafeteria

 

Monday, Oct. 28

      GBB at North Ridge, 4:15 pm

 

 

Tuesday, Oct. 29

      GBB versus Rantoul, 4:15 pm (this is our PINK OUT game so everyone is encouraged to attend wearing PINK)

               1.  current physical

               2.  completed Unit 4 form

               3.  copy of your insurance info

                       all 4 pieces of paperwork are to be given to Ms. Borchardt in room 122 NOT the office.

 

 

    *  sign up for track will be Monday, Nov. 25 and Tuesday, Nov. 26.  You must have all 4 pieces of the required paperwork turned in to Ms. Borchardt in order to sign up.
