  • Help Support an Edison Family:

Kelly Evans is a 6th grader here at Edison. Eighteen months ago Kelly's mom, Tricia, was diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's disease), a muscle wasting disease. The disease had taken an enormous toll; at this point she can no longer move her arms or legs.Come help support the family by purchasing bottle cap and silver pendants, magnets and key rings painted by the Evan's girls and friends, with Tricia's chosen words handwritten by friends and family! A meaningful Valentine's gift. Proceed's go to support the Evan's family.

  • Support Edison Band: Next Thursday, February 16th, Meatheads at 1305 S. Neil Street (the old Blockbuster) will give 10% of your purchase to the Edison Band Program. Take the attached flyer, or an electronic copy of the form on your phone, to present, and 10% of your order goes back to the band!  Please let friends and family in Champaign know about this offer too.  I know that Meatheads is a favorite High School hang out, so make sure that siblings and their friends take a copy with them that day. Make plans today to eat out next Thursday!

 

  • 8th Grade Basketball Team: Congratulations to our 8th grade boys basketball team.  They defeated Franklin last night advancing to the state Tournament.  They will play on Sat., Feb. 11 at 11:30.  If they win this game they will play at 5:00 pm on Saturday. If there is enough interest we will take a fan bus to the game on Thurs., Feb. 16. Congratulations to Coach Johnson and the boys basketball team!

 

 

 

February 9

 

  • We need parent volunteers!: The next school dance is Friday, February 10 from 6-8pm. All profits for this dance will go to the Edison AVID program.  Parents, we need volunteer chaperones for the dance. Please e-mail Jesse Guzman at guzmanje@champaignschools.org if you can help, it would be greatly appreciated.


  • Choir Practice: There will be an additional choir practice this Friday after school until 4:00.  Any questions, talk to Ms. Tock

 

  • NAAPID: National African American Parent Involvement Day (NAAPID) will be February 13 from 9a-12pm. See attached letter for more info.

  • Facebook: Edison PTSA is on Facebook. Make sure you friend us–it's another way to stay informed and see what's going on.   • Schnucks Rewards: Schnucks has a reward program that earns money for Edison. Go to this link for more information http://www.escrip.com/merchants/identity/schnucks/index.jspEdison PTSA gets money from this and it's an easy way to help our school. Sign up or if you have a card make sure you tell them you want your rewards to go to Edison Middle School PTSA. This program does not interfere with the gas rewards program.

 

February 6

 

  • LEAP/Dyslexia: LEAP is pleased to be offering a second showing of the HBO Documentary "Journey Into Dyslexia" February 16th from 6–8 pm at the Urbana Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall. See attached PDF for more info.

 

  • Athletic Events:

It is a busy week with 4 home events. Our volleyball teams are doing great so this would be the perfect week to stop by the gym to see them in action as well as our wrestling team is having a tri – meet this Thurs.  One of our wrestlers is ranked 4th in the state and our very own Anthony Davis is ranked 6th in the state

  • Congratulations: to Trystyn Schoonover and  Anthony Davis. Trystyn took first place while Anthony took second place at the Mahomet Varsity meet this past Sat.

 

 

 

February 2

 

  • Pictures: Inter-State Studio will be at Edison on Thursday, February 9, 2012 for Spring Photos. These are fun photos that are optional for students to order.  Order forms were sent to students last week.  If a parent didn't receive a  form from their student,  the main office has extra order forms.

  • National Junior Honor Society: Applications for the Edison chapter of the National Junior Honor Society are now available on the see attachment or in the main office.  Applications are due to Mr. Cain by March 2, 2012.  If there are any questions please contact Mr. Cain at cainza@champaignschools.org or 351-3771.

 

 

  • Yearbook Pictures: Pictures needed for the yearbook! The school yearbook needs candid pictures from cross-country, baseball, basketball, volleyball, and wrestling. Please send digital pictures to Mrs. Easton. eastonka@champaignschools.org or drop off a picture disk in the main office. *We are asking for photos throughout the month of February!

 

 

  • International Day Volunteers: Letters have gone home and we need volunteers for this event! We especially need someone who is well versed with using chopsticks and is able to show others how to use them too. To volunteer. Please e-mail pinskecr@champaignschools.org if you can help.

 

 

  • International Day: Edison is excited to announce there will be an International Day on March 15th from 8am-11am. Edison is a very diverse school and wants to celebrate different cultures from around the world. This is a great event for the school and we hope students can donate items and participate in this special event. See attached letter for more info.
