Edison's Mission

It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.

 

Flier for Cheer tryouts can be found on the athletic bulletin board outside room 122.  Tryouts will be Monday, Sept. 14, Tuesday, Sept. 15 and Wednesday, Sept. 15 from 4 until 6 pm.  You must attend all 3 days to be considered for the team and you MUST have all the required paperwork turned in to Ms. Borchardt (check the list outside the cafeteria to see if you are cleared for tryouts).  

Open gyms for Edison students:  a flier for upcoming open gym dates/times can be found on the athletic bulletin board outside room 122.  The first open gym is Sunday, Sept. 13 from 2 until 4 pm in the north gym.

You must have a waiver form turned in to Ms. Borchardt in order to attend.

Boys listen up:  Tryouts for the 7th and 8th grade teams will be held on Monday, October 19 and Tuesday, October 20.  If you are interested you can pick up a flier on the athletic bulletin board outside room 122.

6th graders you can tryout for the 7th grade team.  Info about the 6th grade only basketball team will be announced once we receive info about the schedule.

You must have a current physical, completed unit 4 form, completed waiver form and a copy of your insurance info on file with Ms. Borchardt by Oct. 2.

 

6th grade basketball: Details will be coming soon.  This team is in partnership with the Park District who determines the schedule which we will receive towards middle/end of October.

We need a volunteer coach for the 6th grade team.  If you are interested please contact Jackie Borchardt.

 

 

Thurs., Sept. 3

·         Baseball DH at Zahnd vs Jefferson, 4:15 pm  PIC DAY for Baseball team (players are to bring their order envelope and payment with the to the field so they can turn it in to the photographer) - PICS will begin to be taken at 3pm

 

Friday, Sept. 4

·         XC (Cross Country) at Chrisman, 4pm (eligible runners are to be dismissed from class at 2:00 pm)

 

Sat., Sept. 5

·         Varsity Baseball vs Rantoul at Zahnd, 10 am

In association with the AV Club, Mr. Holden produces a yearly video year book. Throughout the year, if you have pictures of dances, sports events, team activities, field trips, club activities or classroom projects that you would like to share, please email them to Mr. Holden.    holdenal@champaignschools.org

Choir: Does your student sound awesome singing along to the radio in the car? The Edison Choir meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays until 4pm. The choir is open to anyone who likes singing. You don't need any experience to join us. We're going to have some great times this year! Parents, if you have questions please contact Mr. Dare at dareje@champaignschools.org

Mandatory Band Parent Meeting: parents of students in band are required to attend one meeting in the Edison auditorium, Thursday and Friday at 6:30pm. Parents are only required to come to one of them (preferably Thursday).  Also a reminder of the group email list; if you know someone not getting emails please contact: dbeck72@gmail.com

Builders' Club will begin meeting after school on Wednesdays, starting September 9 in Mrs Easton's room (above the main office). If you love building, or if you want some experience using tools, join us! No experience necessary. This year we will work on a couple little projects, then we'll join Garden Club out at a local farm to assemble a chicken coop and build hoop houses for the winter. Lunch Reminder: Students are NOT ALLOWED to order lunch and have it delivered to the school. If a parent wants to bring lunch to their student (Mcdonalds, pizza, etc) they have to stay with the child and eat with them in the cafeteria.

Come join us for Fall Open House on Monday, September 21, from 6:30-8:00. This will be a great opportunity for you to learn more about Edison, meet teachers, and see some of the wonderful extra-curricular activities we have to offer.

PTSA: the first PTSA meeting of the school year was held on Monday August 17.  Minutes are attached, as is the proposed budget for 2015-2016.  Thanks to everyone who attended for all the great ideas and enthusiasm!  The next meeting will be Monday September 14 at 6 pm in the Edison Library (rescheduled from Sept 21 to accommodate Open House).

Athletic Announcements will now be sent separately from the regular email announcements.

After School Clubs and Activities: most clubs don't get started right away in August, so please stay tuned.  We will send a list of clubs as soon as it is available.

Drop Off and Pick Up: Prairie Street (west of the school) is one way going north during drop-off and pick-up times.  To keep kids and vehicles safe, cars coming from the west (turning left onto Prairie) may pull over on the left side of Prairie, and cars coming from the east (turning right onto Prairie) pull over on the right side of Prairie.  Please try to wait for the car in front of you to pull away (instead of trying to pass) as there will be a lot of kids trying to get to the blacktop.  Do not drop off on Green Street. 

Champaign Public Library change in hours: if you plan to have your child spend time at the Champaign Public Library after school, please note their change in hours.  The library will close at 6 pm on Thursdays and Fridays.  You can find library information here: http://www.champaign.org/
