May 8
- Early Dismissal: Wednesday May 9th is early dismissal. Students will be dismissed at 11:10 am.
- PTSA Meeting: The next Edison PTSA meeting is Tuesday, May 8th in the Edison Library beginning at 7pm. All are welcome to attend. This will be the last PTSA meeting of the 2011-2012 school year. We are still accepting nominations for officers and committee chairs.
May 4
- Science Fair: 8th grade science students will present science fair projects in class next Monday, May 7th in class 1st - 4th period. If any science buff parents would be willing to come in and be judges, we could use help. They can stay through the morning or just help for one class period. - Teacher Appreciation Week: Next week is National Teacher Appreciation Week and the PTSA has several things planned to show the Edison staff just how much we appreciate all they do for our students. Please contact Lynnette Dodds at lynnette24@sbcglobal.net if you can donate any of the following items:

muffins
coffee cake
fruit
juice
Wednesday
bottled water and granola bars
Friday
salads and desserts
- Ordering Food: Parents please be aware students are not allowed to order food to be delivered during the school day.
- Edison Band Concert in the Park: The Edison Band Program's annual Day in the Park is this Saturday, May 5th at 2pm. This event will feature all three concert bands and all three Jazz Bands! Action inflatables (bouncy houses) will be available for $1 a ride or $5 for the day. Concessions will be sold, too. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy great music in the park! In the event of inclement weather, the concert will move to the EMS Auditorium.
- South Side Retirement Party: Mrs. Parnell's retirement part will on Thursday, May 24th at 3:15 in the South Side gym. Please come and help us thank her for her years of service to South Side.
- Athletic Banquet: Athletic Banquet for baseball, girls and boys basketball (including 6th grade BBB) and volleyball will be held on Thursday, May 17 from 5:30 pm until 7:00 pm at Srtone Creek Church in Urbana. Cross Country members who have the top 5 GPA's will also be invited once the top 5 GPA holders have been identified. Ms. Borchardt will let parents know ASAP. Parents are asked to bring a side dish to be served with fried chicken, a desert and 2 liters of a drink (CHILLED)! the flier for the banquet is attached. - Summer School Registration: Summer School registration is being held at Edison in the cafeteria from 4-6pm on Tuesday, May 15th.
- Photos: In preparation for the last convocation of the school year, staff and students are working on a highlight video. Parents, if you have an pictures or videos in digital format, please send them to Mr. Holden at holdenal@champaignschools.org.
- Boys Basketball Camp: Attached is the flier for the boys basketball camp. Coach Johnson strongley encourages anyone interested in trying out for the 7th or 8th grade boys basketball team next year to attend the camp. Please turn your registration form and money in to Ms. Borchardt by May 20. Anyone registering after May 20 will not receive a camp tshirt.
- Girls Attending Centennial: Please contact Coach Thomas (thomassu@champaignschools.org or Ms. Borchardt) if you are interested in attending open gyms for girls basketball at Centennial starting in May.
- Cross Country (XC): Anyone interested in running Cross Country for Edison next year is encouraged to participate in the summer running dates Coach Mills has scheduled. The summer running flier is on the athletic bulletin board outside Ms. Borchardt's room (122)

Friday, July 13 - Current Physcial, Completed Champaign Unit 4 form and a copy of your
insurance/medical card are due if you are planning to run Cross Country (XC)
Monday, July 30 - Season Starts. Anyone wishing to participate on the XC team MUST
start on this date.
- 2012 - 2013 Baseball (BB) Season:
Friday, July 13 - Current Physcial, Completed Champaign Unit 4 form and a copy of your
insurance/medical card are due if you are planning to tryout for the baseball team.
Monday, July 30 - Season Starts. Anyone wishing to tryout for the baseball team MUST
be able to attend the tryout times which can begin on this date.
Actual dates/times of tryouts will be announced over the summer.
- 2012 - 2013 Girls Basketball (GBB) Season:
Friday, August 10 - Current Physcial, Completed Champaign Unit 4 form and a copy of your
insurance/medical card are due if you are planning to tryout for the girls basketball team.
Monday, Aug. 27 GBB season starts - Anyone wishing to tryout for the basketball team MUST
be able to attend the tryout times which can begin on this date.
