Edison's Mission

It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.

 

Early Dismissal, No School: school will dismiss at 2:10 pm this Thursday and Friday (December 18 & 19) and will resume on Tuesday January 6.  Enjoy the winter break!

 

Monical's Community Day for Edison Bands is Tuesday January 6, just right for celebrating the restart of school! Present the Monical's form when paying, it is located here: http://www.monicals.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/12/EdisonBandPatrons010615.pdf  (form is also attached) This fundraiser is valid at Mattis and Kirby in Champaign, and Philo Rd in Urbana.

Attention 8th grade students and parents/guardians of 8th grade students:  9th grade transition night will be held on January 14 at 6:00 pm in the auditorium (not Jan 12 as the announcements yesterday indicated). During this time Greg Johnson, Principal of Centennial and Joe Williams, Principal of Central will discuss what the transition from 8th to 9th grade will be like including grading policies, high school course selection, programs for 9th grade students and more. If you have any questions please contact Angie Schoonover at 351-3771. 

Edison PTSA recently awarded 15 mini-grants to teachers and staff for classroom needs, extracurricular club activities, and learning software!  If you'd like to help PTSA develop additional fundraising events, come to the January PTSA meeting: Monday January 12, 6 pm in the Edison Library.

Save The Date! The Edison Middle School Winter Dance will be Friday, January 30th from 6-8 p.m. Theme: "Totally Tubular" Neon Dance Party. Cost: $2 per person
Join us for a night of 80's music, games, and trivia. Pizza and snacks will be available for purchase. More details regarding the dance and volunteer opportunities to follow. Please contact Nena at

Mark Your Calendars: Edison Jazz Bands will hold the annual Java & Jazz event on Friday February 13 at Faith United Methodist Church. Just desserts and coffee/tea, etc; this will allow the price to drop significantly - everyone welcome!

College Gear Fridays: Students, wear your Avid or college gear on Friday.  Every Friday!

 

Building CouncilWhat do we do? We don't discuss district issues, personnel or curricular matters, or discipline problems, but we do brainstorm ways to improve and enrich our school environment, and make things run more smoothly for Edison students and staff.  We would like to recruit more parents to building council meetings.  Consider attending a meeting (held in Mrs. Borchardt's room):

January 8 – 3 – 4pm 

February 12 – 7am – 7:45am 

March 12 – 3-4pm 

April 9 – 3 – 4pm 

May 7 – 3 - 4pm 

 

Social Probation: Please talk to your students about social probation, which is exclusion from participation in and/or attendance at an extracurricular school-sanctioned activity like ball games, concerts and dances.  A student will be placed on social probation if/when:

•He/she has not served the assigned detentions minutes

•He/she is failing one or more classes

•Administration places him/her on social probation.​


County Market Max Dollars for Education: if you're a County Market shopper and wish to designate Edison as your Max card school, sign up at www.myCountyMarket.com or at the customer service desk at any store.  Our school code is 14088.

 

The Edison Choir meets in the Rm. 110 from 2:50 - 4:00 pm on Tuesdays and until 4:30 on Thursdays.  Everyone is welcome; come out to enjoy singing together and bring a friend! 

Student Council meets in Mrs. Altenbaumer's room, 234 from 2:45-3:30. We meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month.   All students are welcome to join.   If you missed the first meeting, talk to Mrs. Altenbaumer or Mr. Freeman, our two Co-Sponsors.  You can join anytime during the year.   Come make a difference in your school.

Congratulations to our wrestling team as they defeated Shelbyville as part of their tri meet.  They were unable to defeat Mattoon.

GBB players:  please bring your gym bag to Ms. Borchardt (if you are on the volleyball team you must have your basketball gym bag turned in before you will receive a VB gym bag).

 

Fight Like a Girl T-Shirts: Help support those battling Ovarian Cancer and Breast Cancer by buying a Fight Like a Girl t-shirt. Attached is an order form that is due December 19th by 8:00 am to Ms. Koller or Ms. Borchardt. The shirts are $15. $8.50 out of the $15 will be donated to a family here at Edison. Help support the cause!

Candy Grams: Student Council will be selling Candy Grams from Monday Dec 15th, through Thursday the 18th.  They are 50 cents each and can be sent to any student, teacher, or administrator.  They will be delivered on the 19th through homeroom classes.  Please make sure you know the homeroom of the student you are sending them to so Student Council can get them delivered easily. Student Council will not meet on Wednesday, but will sort Candy Grams on Thursday, the 18th, after school.

Thank you all for your participation in the Pajama Program.  Edison collected almost 70 pairs of pajamas.  Combined with Robeson, Leal, and UMS 400 pairs of snuggly, warm PJs were donated to help kids in our community.  Cross Country team members will be helping with pajama distribution at Salt & Light.  Team Constellations collected the most pajamas for Edison.  Students in Ms. Rotramel's social studies classes are rewarded with a Pajama Day on Friday, December 19.  Students must wear shoes and school dress code still applies.

 

Fight Like a Girl T-Shirts: Help support those battling Ovarian Cancer and Breast Cancer by buying a Fight Like a Girl t-shirt. Attached is an order form that is due December 19th by 8:00 am to Ms. Koller or Ms. Borchardt. The shirts are $15. $8.50 out of the $15 will be donated to a family here at Edison. Help support the cause!

Dig into those closets and get creative, its UGLY WINTER SWEATER time!  On Thursday, December 18th, Edison students and staff members are encouraged to wear their "ugly" winter or holiday themed sweaters to school.  What a fun way to celebrate the end of the semester!
