EDISON PTSA ANNOUNCEMENTS

 

February 24

 

·         Urgent Need for Volunteers! The PTSA has an urgent need for volunteers to serve as hall monitors during ISAT week. Dates and times are below. If you are available, please contact Jennifer Clarke at jenniferandjohnc@sbcglobal.net with your contact information and times that you are available to volunteer.

·         ISAT reward!!!  On Friday, March 5, all Edison students who meet the "ISAT Week Behavior Criteria"  will be going to the Beverly Cinema to watch "Percy Jackson and the Olympians:  The Lightning Thief".  Ticket price is $6.00.  Permission slips are due Wed., March 3.  Permission slips are being sent home on Wed., Feb. 24.  Check both sides for info concerning behavior criteria, ticket prices, snack prices, etc.

 

·         Orchestra Honors: Several orchestra students received top honors at solo and ensemble contest last weekend.  Aashika Ashok, Jonlyn Miller and Yun-Ah Yang all received a "one" rating for their solo performances.  Congratulations!

 

·         PTA Reflections Award: Congratulations to 7th grader Alic Trellakis who received an Honorable Mention Award for her literature entry at the State PTA Reflections competition.

 

·         PTSA Board Meeting: The PTSA Board will meet Thursday, February 25 at Za's on Neil Street at noon. They will be discussing action items for the rest of the semester, including ISAT testing, teacher appreciation, and 5th grade open house.  Anyone is welcome to attend.

 

·         Dynamic Program for All Students.: All students are encouraged to join NSBE Jr. (National Society of Black Engineers) which meets on Wednesdays after school in Mr. Kuppler’s room (#324). Students will participate in experiments and demonstrations at the first part of the club starting at 2:45 p.m..  By 3:30-4:15 p. students will concentrate on homework, learn study tips, and have the opportunity to ask questions about high school and college.  If this opportunity is something you would like your student to participate in, simply fill out the attached form and have your student give it to Mrs. Mastny in the community center (right above the cafeteria at Edison.)

 

·         Volleyball: Both the 7th and 8th grade Volleyball teams beat Danville Northridge Monday night.  It was their last home game of the season. They play again tonight at Franklin.

 

COMMUNITY ACTIVITY

 

·         World Languages Survey: The Mellon Building is conducting a survey to gather public input on the World Languages program. Please visit http://www.champaignschools.org/worldlangsurveys.html to provide your input. There are surveys for parents, current and former students, and various categories of educators.

 

February 22

 

·         Student Council: The next Student Council meeting  will be Wednesday, February 24 in room 234 from 2:45-3:30 p.m.  Come with markers or colored pencils to create some posters for some upcoming events.

 

·         Book-of-the-Month Club: Edison's Book-of-the-Month Club will be meeting again on February 24. The book we are reading this month is Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card. Go to www.mrseaston.com for more information.

 

·         Free Monitors: There are several free CRT monitors for giveaway.  Please contact Laurie Jacob at jacobla@champaignschools.org if interested.

 

·         Uni High School: Transcript releases for University Laboratory High School must be turned in to the Ms. Cannon in the Main office no later than Friday February 26th.

 

·         Volleyball: Edison’s 7th grade volleyball team beat Jefferson last Thursday night.  The 8th graders lost their games to Jefferson. Both teams play again this week.

 

·         Athletic Events for the week:

Thurs., Feb. 25 VB at Franklin, 4:15 pm (bus leaves Edison at 3:30)

Sat., Feb. 27  Wrestling regionals at Mahomet (time TBA)

Mon., March 1  7VB regional game at Jefferson vs Franklin, 6:00 pm

 

February 19

 

·         The Comet Cazzette:  Edison’s talented 8th grade Explorers have started a newspaper, The Comet Cazzette, which will be printed for everyone to read once a month. Each team’s Language Arts Writing teacher will receive copies of the newspaper for students to read, share, discuss, etc.  The Comet Cazzette team wants your feedback, so please write comments about things you love, dislike, and/or want to see added into the newspaper! We want everyone to be happy to read Edison’s newspaper; therefore, if you have an event, idea, announcement, or something you would like to see included in the paper, please send letters to Mrs. McSurley’s mail box and/or drop by Mrs. McSurley’s classroom in room 340!

 

·         Computer Club: The next Computer Club meeting will be March 1st.
