Edison's Mission

It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.

You're Invited: 8th grade Memorial Sculpture Museum

Who:  All Parents/Guardians, Students and Community members are Invited

What:  8th Grade Memorial Sculpture Museum:  Remembering Victims of Prejudice

When:  Friday, May 15th, 8 am - 12 noon - Bring a Pen or a Pencil!

Where:  Edison Middle School Library

Why:  Come enjoy our 8th grade Memorial Museum and vote on the best display, the one that most effectively makes a stand against prejudice and hate. The students have worked so hard and are looking forward to hosting guests at their "gallery" and having as many eyes and ears exposed to this important social message.  This is also a competition and they need voters to show up!  But, more importantly, we want everyone to remember the dangerous effects of being silent in the face of racism, prejudice, bullying and genocide.  The displays are original sculptures accompanied by a one-page essay that explains historical background information as well as the symbolism behind their art.

Student Council will meet on Wed. May 13th and 20th to get things ready for the 8th grade Dance.  Please be ready to get to work at 2:45.  We will meet in Mrs. Altenbaumer's room, 234.

Bike Recycling Event: please see attachment for information on a bicycle drive this Saturday, May 14 in Champaign, Mahomet, Monticello, and St Joseph.

Important Information for 8th graders: In order for you to participate in the end of the year activities you must not receive more than one level 1 infraction, any DR's and/or be suspended beginning today until May 29.  You must also have taken care of any lost class books and library books.

On Monday, May 18 8th graders will receive three permits (Hessel Park, 8th grade dance permit and permit to leave early on May 29).  All three permits are due to your first hour teacher by Friday, May 22.

8th graders planning to attend the 8th grade dance must have their school ID so make sure you have your ID.

8th Grade Promotion has been set for 9 am on May 29.  Each family will receive two tickets to attend the promotion (tickets are required).

Special Notes:

attend promotion (unless of course the parent wishes to use one of their

            two tickets for the sibling).

*Each 8th grader will be given two tickets for parents/family members to use

for attendance at promotion - anyone attending promotion must have a

ticket in order to gain access to the auditorium

The 8th grade teachers went over expectations with the 8th grade class recently.  Here are a few of the expectations.  If you have any questions please email or call Jackie.

PTSA update: Our final meeting of the school year will be Monday May 18, 6 pm in the Edison Library.  Minutes from our April meeting are attached. We will vote on next year's officers (Gretchen Pein: President, Jen Carson: VP, Karyn Miller: Secretary, and Jill Daly: Treasurer) and start making plans for the next school year.  We are still looking to fill these PTSA positions for 2015-2016: dance committee, spirit wear, and a VP who will take over as president in the 2016-2017 school year. These are great ways to get involved in your child's middle school experience and meet other parents! Contact Gretchen Pein at gretchenpein@gmail.com if you have questions.

8th Grade Calendar of Events: a schedule of events specific to 8th graders is attached.

Temporary absence: Mrs. Lane-Rose will be away for military service on May 5-19; Mrs. Whitfield will be serving as interim associate principal during that time.
