Edison's Mission

It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.

 

Spirit Wear: Spirit Wear orders (that weren't picked up at Open House) will be distributed to students during lunch at school today (Tuesday September 30). 


Picture Day: is October 2.  If your child hasn't already brought home an order form, you can pick one up in the school office.

 

No School for Fall Holiday this Friday, October 3. 

 

2-Liter Plastic Bottles: 8th grade science teachers need 100 2-liter plastic bottles for rocket launching this year. We also need empty cereal boxes. Please turn them in to Mrs. Anders-Becker or Mrs. Easton by October 3.


Edison Principal Search; there will be a family and community forum at 6 pm on October 9 in the Edison library.  Your feedback will be used to generate interview questions in the search for a permanent principal at Edison.  See attached flyer.


Building CouncilWhat do we do? We don't discuss district issues, personnel or curricular matters, or discipline problems, but we do brainstorm ways to improve and enrich our school environment, and make things run more smoothly for Edison students and staff.  We would like to recruit more parents to building council meetings.  Consider attending a meeting (held in Mrs. Borchardt's room):

January 8 – 3 – 4pm 

February 12 – 7am – 7:45am

Physical and Dental forms: Remember to turn in your student's physical form and dental form to the school office.  Physicals are due no later than October 15th or the student will not be able to attend school. Edison's 100th Anniversary Celebration Open House will be Saturday October 11th from 2-4PM.  Please make sure to let anyone you know who went to or taught at Champaign High School, Edison Junior High or Edison Middle School know about this event.  All classrooms will be open to see and remember fond memories in this majestic building.  The PTSA will provide refreshments and there will be faculty and students to show you around. The Central Alumni Association will also have a table set up.   There will be handicapped parking on the west side off of Prairie and students will let you in the side door.


Bottenfield Elementary School dedication: The Bottenfield Dedication Ceremony will be Thursday, October 16, 6:30-8 pm.  Stop by and check out the renovations; flyer is attached.


Edison PTSA Meeting Minutes: the minutes from our first meeting are attached.  Mark your calendars for the next meeting on Monday October 20, 6 pm in the Edison library.

 

Open House Feedback: What did you think of your Open House experience?  What was done right and needs to continue, and what could be changed? Please send your comments and suggestions to Interim Principal Oakes-Novak at oakesdo@champaignschools.org


Social Probation: Please talk to your students about social probation, which is exclusion from participation in and/or attendance at an extracurricular school-sanctioned activity like ball games, concerts and dances.  A student will be placed on social probation if/when:

•He/she has not served the assigned detentions minutes

•He/she is failing one or more classes

•Administration places him/her on social probation.​


County Market Max Dollars for Education: if you're a County Market shopper and wish to designate Edison as your Max card school, sign up at www.myCountyMarket.com or at the customer service desk at any store.  Our school code is 14088.

 

The Edison Choir meets in the Rm. 110 from 2:50 - 4:00 pm on Tuesdays and until 4:30 on Thursdays.  Everyone is welcome; come out to enjoy singing together and bring a friend! 

 

The Edison Choir during school: Do you love to sing but can't stay afterschool for choir?   Would you like Edison to offer choir during the school day?  If so, you need to write to our district administrators asking for it to be offered during the day!! See Mrs. Peachey for a letter writing packet.  Letters are due by Wednesday, Oct. 8th.​

Student Council meets in Mrs. Altenbaumer's room, 234 from 2:45-3:30. We meet on the first and third Wednesday of each month.   All students are welcome to join.   If you missed the first meeting, talk to Mrs. Altenbaumer or Mr. Freeman, our two Co-Sponsors.  You can join anytime during the year.   Come make a difference in your school.

Friday Night Basketball will be held at Vineyard Church from 7p-9p. Vineyard is located at 1500 N Lincoln at the corner of Lincoln and Bradley in Urbana. Basketball is open to ages 13-17. Text or call 217-299-0013.
