Edison's Mission
It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.
Back to School Workshop: A free workshop about ways to help kids get off to a good start at school is scheduled from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on August 26 at the Urbana Free Library, Lewis Auditorium, 200 W. Green St., Urbana. Kathryn Leskis, Ph.D., a local psychologist, will describe 10 ideas that will help all students, especially those with dyslexia and those with special needs as they transition from the summer into the school year. Additional topics include ways to evaluate current routines, share ideas about how to prevent power struggles, and offer ways to improve parent –teacher -student communication. The workshop is organized by LEAP (Linking Educators and Parents), a study group serving east central Illinois, and is open to teachers, parents and the public. No School: there will be no school for students on Friday August 29 and Monday September 1.
Mark your calendars: the first Edison PTSA meeting will be Monday, September 15 at 6 pm in the Edison Library. Details coming soon!
The Edison Choir will be starting rehearsals Tuesday, Sept. 2 after school. Anyone is welcome, and we meet in the Rm. 110 from 2:50 - 4:00 pm on Tuesdays and until 4:30 on Thursdays. Come out to enjoy singing together and bring a friend!
Region Choir Auditions: Any 7th and 8th graders interested in region choir auditions should see Mrs. Peachey this week for information and music. Come out and sing some fun music with other singers in your district. Auditions are Monday, Oct. 13th in Bloomington.
ACDA Honor Choir: Any 6th grader interested in the Illinois ACDA Honor Choir in Naperville on Oct. 25th should see Mrs. Peachey in Rm. 110 for information. This is a great chance to sing with students from the greater Chicago area and all over Illinois.
Spirit Wear Orders: if you didn't place a Spirit Wear order at registration, don't worry! Attached are forms for both the 'bling' shirts and the regular Edison logo items (yes, there are two forms, as the 'bling' shirts are from one vendor and the 'regular' items are from another vendor). Color photos of the 'bling' designs are also attached. Send your order and payment to school in an envelope marked 'PTSA Spirit Wear.' Orders submitted by September 1 will be ready at Open House. Orders received after September 1 will be delivered in time for the winter holidays.
County Market Max Dollars for Education: if you're a County Market shopper and wish to designate Edison as your Max card school, sign up at www.myCountyMarket.com or at the customer service desk at any store. Our school code is 14088.
Physical and Dental forms: Remember to turn in your student's physical form and dental form to the school office. Physicals are due no later than October 15th or the student will not be able to attend school.
