[Edison-PTSA] URGENT SAFETY MESSAGE FROM THE DISTRICT (EDISON ANNOUNCEMENTS)

September 27, 2011

Dear Unit 4 Families:

RE:  URGENT—Student Safety Alert

Today we were notified by police of the following incident:

On Monday, September 26, 2011, a Jefferson Middle School student was walking home at approximately 4 p.m. after track practice.  She was approached by a man in a truck who asked her if she wanted a ride home.  The truck was a red Chevrolet pickup with a white stripe and a silver bumper.  The man was a white man with blond hair.   The location of the incident was near the corner of Sangamon and Kenwood Road.

The police are investigating the incident.  We have alerted the transportation department, and bus drivers will be vigilant in watching out for the safety of our students.

Please speak to your children about "stranger danger" and remind them not to speak to anyone they do not know.  It is also very important to let your children know to tell a trusted adult immediately if they are approached.  The sooner the incident is reported, the more help the police can provide.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership.  As always, we will be proactive in ensuring the safety of our students.

Sincerely,

Bob Malito, Interim Superintendent
