Edison's Mission
It is our mission at Edison Middle School to work collaboratively to place the focus on the academic, social, and emotional needs of each individual student first and ensure that
ALL students are prepared for post-secondary education.
This Week will be the final Candy Gram Sale. Candy Grams will be for sale Mon thru Thursday for 50 cents each. Students: send a friend some Spring Time cheer! They will be delivered at school on Friday the 15th.
PTSA Meeting date change: the next PTSA meeting will be Monday April 18, 6 pm in the Edison library (there was a conflict with the National Junior Honor Society ceremony on April 11). We will be nominating officers for the 2016-2017 school year so if you are interested in taking a leadership role (or know someone who is), be sure to attend this meeting or contact gretchenpein@gmail.com. An agenda is attached as are minutes from the last meeting.

Public Forum on Dyslexia and Other Learning Differences: April 26, 6:30-8:00 pm at the Urbana Free Library Auditorium, sponsored by LEAP. A panel composed of parent, Cari Vanderpool; classroom teacher, Jill Quisenberry; Ron Rothschild, family therapist and Elizabeth deGruy, special education director will help us take a look at how we, as parents, educators and advocates can make meaningful connections with our children and youth with dyslexia. We will look at concepts and skills for helping all of us celebrate the beauties vs. the beasts of learning differently. Join us for an interactive and helpful evening of lively discussion and useful information.
Congratulations to Jazz Band I on their acceptance into the highly selective 70th annual Midwest Clinic, which will be held in Chicago in December 2016.
Mark Your Calendars: 8th grade promotion will be held on Monday, May 23 at 9:00 am. More information regarding tickets will be given at a later date.
The Central HS Marching Maroons Color Guard will begin holding clinics in the West Gym for ALL interested students (grades 8-11) beginning next week. The schedule for spring clinics is:
Tues Apr 5th -- 6:30-8:00pm
Tues Apr 12th -- 5:00-6:30pm
Sun April 17 -- 1:00-6:00 p.m.
Tues Apr 19th -- 6:30-8:00pm
Tues Apr 26th -- 8:00pm-9:30pm
Tues May 3rd -- 6:30-8:00pm
No experience is necessary. If you are interested in being part of an award-winning group and like to move please give it a try! Students should wear comfortable clothing and athletic shoes. Drop-off reminder: Remember that cell phone use in a school zone is against the law. Please do not park your car on Prairie Street during drop-off time and check your mail. When you do this you make drop-off unsafe for our children because everyone else must drive around you.
Edison Book Drive: WE NEED BOOKS! PLEASE HELP US BUILD OUR CLASSROOM LIBRARIES WITH HIGH INTEREST TEXTS!!! 5,000 BOOKS is our GOAL. Two ways to donate:
1) Students can bring book donations to their team's AVID teacher:
Adventurers - Mrs. Wolz
Voyagers - Mr. Freeman
Galaxies - Ms. Whitfield
Constellations - Mr. Hutchison
Explorers - Ms. McDonnell
Navigators- Mr. Holden
2) Bring them to parent teacher conferences! Bring a couple or a box-full to your conference and your teacher will make sure it gets to where it needs to go.
What kind of books? 4 - 9th grade reading levels, chapter and graphic novels, fiction, poetry, and non-fiction books are all welcome! Questions? Email Mrs. Wolz at wolzje@champaignschools.org
Unit 4 Facility Planning: the public is invited to attend Tier II Committee meetings of the Special Committee of Facilities. The charge of the Tier Two Committee is to review recommendations from Tier One, and based on this information provide recommendations to the Board of Education in the following areas: location of facilities, collaborations/partnerships with other public entities in the Champaign Unit #4 District, and finance/referendum schedule.
